~ Wily's most famous quote. |
Dr. Albert W. Wily, better known either as Dr. Wily or just simply Wily is the main protagonist of the Secret History episode, Secret History of Mega Man.
He is the former scientific partner of Dr. Light who once founded L.W. Technologies with him and helped improve everyday life in Mega City with new technology. After his son, Rock, got into an accident however, Wily would step down from the company and promise to never leave his side. After a deal which sparked helping create the Megasuits for the good of mankind, he would try to help his son once again, only to then find out the suits were made for wider purposes of destruction and warmongering. Wily is now deranged and wants to avenge his son, intending on killing his former friend and presumably Mega Man himself, ultimately becoming their arch-nemesis.
He was voiced by Mick Lauer, who also voiced Dr. Light in the same episode, and also Tails and Raiden in the same series.
Biography[]
Years prior to 20XX, Albert Wily and his business partner, Dr. Light would create their company, L.W. Technologies, creating technological innovations to improve everyday life. By 20XX, a Robot Renaissance would begin in Mega City, thanks to the success of their company. At some point, Wily would get married and have one son named Rock.
Despite starting his own family, Wily would spend a majority of his time focusing on his work, spending little time with his own son. One day however, Wily's life came crashing down. Rock would fall into a unmarked pit, leaving him paralyzed and comatose. Stricken by grief, Wily would promise himself to never leave his son's side again. Shortly afterward, Wily's wife would leave him. With Wily heartbroken and mourning his son, Wily's focus on his work would begin to drift away, leaving L.W. Technologies on the brink of bankruptcy.
At some point, after making a deal with M. Bison to help his military, Light would approach Albert with the idea of creating robotic suits for the military. At first, Wily was furious, believing Light had completely lost his mind, but he would assure his friend it was just for injured war veterans and that they could potentially help Wily's son with the technology. Wily would agree and help Light and create the Mega Suit.
After creating the suit, the scientists would present the prototype to Bison. Unbeknownst to Wily, Light would reveal the cannon attached to the suit, shocking him. Questioning his friend, Thomas would reveal he was helping Bison because he believed with his absence, Wily had begun to drag their company into the ground and they built the Mega Suits in order to make profit once again. Wily however was enraged by the entire fact Light had lied to him and was baffled by the entire fact they were going to help Bison turn people into weapons, instead of helping people who had been greatly injured like his own son. With this, Wily would tear the core out of the suit, accusing Light of potentially wanting this to be his son's fate too. However, little did Wily know that it wasn't stable, resulting in a lab explosion, injuring Light, knocking out Bison, and destroying Rock's memory.
Somehow, Wily would survive and leave the lab through an escape pod, though he was in a critical condition. Sometime after the accident, Wily would learn that Light had begun raising Rock as his own, infuriating him. Wily couldn't see Rock as his own anymore, believing he was a blue abomination and that his son had died years ago. Now, Wily swore revenge, promising he won't stop until he believes his son can finally rest. The episode ends with Wily, now deranged, going from sobbing to laughing while the camera pans and reveals that he had built multiple robots to help him avenge his son.
Personality[]
Wily was described as a genius by his former classmate, Dr. Eggman, believing both he and Light were ahead of their time. Wily seemed to genuinely want to help the citizens of Mega City, working with his good friend to continue creating technologies to help people with their everyday lives. However, Wily did seem to be against making dangerous technologies, as when Light broke his peace oath and willingly made weaponized suits for M. Bison's military, Wily was furious and disgusted that their suits were going to be used as weapons and presumably hurt countless people.
Wily does also love his family very dearly, though he did spend more time on his inventions then time with them. However, Wily did still seem to feel bad for this, especially considering after his son's accident, Wily would promise never to leave his son's side again and was afraid Light may potentially use him as a weapon after learning the true purpose of the Megasuits. He did appear to love his wife too, but after Rock's accident, something seemingly happened in their marriage which would result in her leaving him, leaving the doctor heartbroken.
After the incident at the lab, Wily now is a deranged madman who wants to avenge his son. Wily refuses to believe that the child Light is raising was once his, just seeing him as an abomination and believes his actual son died years ago during his accident, and now swears he will do anything to avenge him and won't stop until he finally can rest. Wily also now has no problem with creating weaponized robots to help him in his revenge against Light, unlike his previous self who was opposed to the idea of creating weapons.

Trivia[]
- Despite the video's title, the episode mostly focuses on Wily's backstory and how he became the deranged scientist he is now rather than Mega Man. In fact, Mega Man doesn't even get a line of dialogue in the video and doesn't make a real appearance until the end.
- Wily's bald head appears to be a result of the explosion at the L.W. Technologies lab.
- In the final scene of the video, Wily states "his son has been dead for years." Considering that the incident at the lab appeared to take place shortly before Light began raising Rock on his own, this heavily suggests Rock had been in coma for several years, which could explain why Wily's absence took such a toll on L.W. Technologies.
