What is your worst dread?
~ Dread Steve to Colle.
I won't be the end of this! There is something MUCH worse coming! He knows.
~ Dread Steve's last words before his death at the hands of Seer.
I am gone, yes. But I am still here, watching over everything. I will stay here for the rest of time, simply watching over all the issues that will come your way. I can choose to move on, but there's nothing there for me. But I think I'll choose to stay, just to watch your agony. Isn't that amusing?
~ Dread Steve haunting Colle as he fights The Last Inferno.

Dread Steve is the secondary antagonist of the Steve Cinematic Universe. He serves as the posthumous overarching antagonist of Rainbow Quest, the main antagonist of Steve Legends and a posthumous antagonist in Twisted Rainbow.

In Steve Legends, he serves as an unseen antagonist in Season 1 and the main antagonist of Season 2.

He is a creation of The First Curse, and served as his right hand man. He was created to infect Steves and trap them in their minds, specifically in their worst nightmares. He was eventually trapped in a tomb underground in the middle of the Diamond Steve stronghold, only to be accidentally released by Colle whilst fighting a Corrupted Giant.

Even after he was defeated by Colle, Seer, Obsidian Captain, and the Judge, Dread's influence continued. His ghost managed to give Seer the info needed to defeat the Demon Steves and directly lead to his transformation into Void Steve. He is the arch-nemesis of Colle.

Personality[]

Dread Steve takes pleasure in the psychological torment of his victims. He revels when things are chaotic and people are suffering. He is also extremely arrogant, going as far as to taunt Colle even though he had already broken him through his demoralizing visions.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Dread Steve was created during the First War by The First Curse to help in his fight against Origin Steve, Genesis, the Giants, and the other Steves. He was made to trapped people in their worst nightmares, and he was no match. However, Origin Steve proceeded to create his counterpart, Dream Steve, who served as Dread's foil by freeing people from his influence.

During the War's conclusion, Dread was trapped in a tomb that hid within an underground Diamond Steve stronghold, which was guarded by a Corrupted Giant.

Release[]

Colle, who began recruiting various Steves to defeat The Last Inferno and save the Desert Steves, tried to resolve a misunderstanding between the Winter and Obsidian Steves. He traveled through the battleground of the original war in search of the Heart of Winter, the essence of Dream Steve that was stolen by the Corrupted Giant. Guided by the ghosts of the Diamond Steves, Colle found the Giant and attempted to get the artifact back. However, during their fight, the Giant stepped on the tomb in the center of the room. This caused Dread Steve to be released without Colle knowing, laying low until he began his plan to torment the Steves.

Your Worst Dread[]

Dread Steve began his attacks days after the Last Inferno's defeat, with his first victim being the Winter Leader. He trapped the leader in his mind for many days. With help from Seer, Colle was eventually able to revive Dream Steve and use his powers to allow Colle and Seer to enter the Winter Leader's mind. The Winter Leader's greatest fear was fire and melting, as Colle and Seer found themselves in a gigantic version of the Winter Leader's house and a rapidly spreading fireplace. As Seer went to keep an eye on the fire, Colle tended to the Winter Leader and helped him to overcome his fears as the fire continued to spread. However, the Winter Leader overcoming his fears lead to his infection burning away, freeing him from Dread Steve's control. After he was freed, Genesis arrived and revealed that he had corrupted the Ocean Leader next.

The trio of Colle, Seer and Dream repeated the process again, although Seer had to use some extra power to uncover what Ocean Steve was seeing since they couldn't. The Ocean Leader's greatest fear was letting people down as he was being taunted by dried up Ocean Steves. Eventually, Colle and Seer helped the Winter Leader overcome the illusion's taunting and strike them down, overcoming his fears and freeing him from his nightmare. Although Ocean Leader woke up, Dread was able to pull Colle and Seer aside into a black void to reveal himself. He explained that he still had unfinished business from the to first war and wanted to finish the fight. Dream Steve was able to pull Seer out before he could do anything else. Dream could only get them one at a time, leaving Colle alone with Dread for a short while. He then asked him what his fears were in an attempt to use those vulnerabilities against him. Dream Steve returned and got Colle out. Dread Steve, while the trio were saving the other Steves that were corrupted, ended up corrupting the Red King as well.

The trio went to the Red Kingdom to see the Red King being attended to his by his apprentice. Dream once more sent Colle and Seer into the mindscape. As the two entered his mindscape, they discovered fragments of the Red King's history before finding the Red King himself confronted with an illusion of Colle that was degrading him, revealing that the Red King's fear was being left behind and forgotten. Knowing that this was personal for him, Seer stood back and allowed for Colle to confront his illusion counterpart and help the Red King recover and bring him back to reality. Afterwards, Dream Steve teleported them to the Desert Steve Village where they found the remaining Forest Steve's infected and being surveyed by Genesis. As Dread Steve's influence began spreading more, Dream realized that they had to take the fight to Dread himself. As the group heads back to the tomb, Colle reveals that Dread was trying to survey him and find out his fears.

Eventually they found the Obsidian Steve's and Colle managed to recruit the Obsidian Captain to their cause and brought him down into the Diamond Steve Stronghold where they found Dread Steve waiting for them. Dread managed to incapacitate Colle and Seer, showing them illusions. Colle was degraded by illusions of his friends for failing his mission to explore and collect things, being caught up with helping all the other Steves. This broke Colle emotionally, causing him to believe that he was useless to everyone and that he was better off staying in his own mind. While Colle's fears were false, Seer's fears were inevitable reality. Seer was being shown visions of the future, specifically the rise of the Demon Steves and his future self as Void Steve. Void Steve talked to Seer about what was supposed to happen. with Seer being unaware they were one in the same. This caused Seer to have a fear of himself. Seer was able to snap out of it quickly, but Colle remained in the mindscape due to the emotional torment. It's only when Dread, believing he had won, showed up in the mindscape to rub salt into the wound and taunt Colle further. Colle realized that people still needed help regardless and forced his way out of his mind and back to reality. With help from the Obsidian Captain and the newly arrived Judge, the four were able to finally defeat Dread Steve, but not before he claimed that something worse was coming. Before elaborating further, Seer killed him.

A Ghost[]

Due to the life link they shared, Dream Steve permanently died as a result of Dread Steve's death. This had an emotional impact on Colle and Seer, alongside the visions Dread had show them. Colle nor Seer were open about what they saw, choosing to bottle it up which caused a rift in their friendship. Some time later, Dread Steve's warning had come to fruition as Demon Steves from the World Below began invading. All the Steves came together to prepare for war and all of the chromatic Kings sacrificed themselves to become Rainbow Crystals, alongside Indigo Steve giving a bit of his power as he was transitioning into becoming Galaxy Steve. Seer became the First Hero / Rainbow Steve. In the time of preparing for war, the two eventually opened up with what their respective visions Dread had given them. While Colle came to terms with the fact that what he saw was a lie, Dread Steve ensured that Seer's future would come true.

Dread Steve, while dead, had remained in the void between reality rather than going to The World Below. Seer was able to come in contact with Dread and through his manipulation, came up with a plan to stop the Demon Steves and turn Seer evil. Dread lied to Seer and proclaimed that the natural state of reality was for there to be nothing at all. Thus, Seer and Dread began manifesting the negative emotions of the Steves to create the power of Darkness. Seer used it to seal the Demon Steves away in The World Below. Dread Steve also showed up in Colle's mind to taunt him further, stating that he would watch him and his suffering forever.

Dread Steve got an inactive role as Seer became Void Steve and Darkness created chaos throughout the world. Dread Steve could only watch, but reveled in the suffering, showing up in Colle's mind several times just to express his joy in his struggles. Eventually, Colle was able to defeat Void Steve with the help from the power of his various friends. In the end, Colle cast Dread Steve away from his mind, finally free from his torment.
