Druig the Eternal of chaos and war is a major antagonist of the Marvel Fanfilm Universe, acting as one of the unseen overarching antagonists of all three Fantastic Knights saga movies, an unseen antagonist in Invisible and The Captain Marvel and he finally appears the main antagonist of the 2022 fanfilm/presentation Ikaris, based on the said character from the MCU/Marvel Comics story of the Eternals.
He returns as a major antagonist in the Marvel World Saga, appearing as one of the four secondary antagonists during Part 1 and he will appear in the future chapters.
He is the fearsome, ruthless and wrathful Eternal of war, corruption, ultimate bloodshed, hatred and chaos. The Eternals were all created by Arishem the Judge, but unlike the others who had their own purposes and have all decided to defect for the good of human kind, Druig became obsessed with exacting his vengeance on the eternal of love and peace Ikaris, and because of this he remained on Arishem's good side, with intent to wipe out humanity out of personal vengeance and reset Ikaris and Sersi so he could become better than them.
He is portrayed by Barry Keoghan, who also portrayed his mostly-heroic MCU version and will portray Lord Garmadon in the 2024 Disney/Lego based live-action fanfilm Ninjago.
History[]
Past[]
Druig was one of the many Eternals created by Arishem with a purpose of destroying unworthy races and species, most prominently wiping out the human race of Earth. However, as time went by, most of The Eternals have befriended the humans and have developed emotions just like them, such as their "human" love towards the human race. Druig however remained loyal to Arishem the Judge and The Celestial cause, since he was afraid to oppose his superiors. Due to missing out on the benefits of being loved by human beings, the tyrannical and lustful warlord Druig became obsessed with killing his own cousin Ikaris, since he was the most loved Eternal out of all of them in the eyes of humanity, and everyone knew Ikaris was a superhero figure. Druig became envious and wrathful about Ikaris' bond with humanity and all the attention and love which he gives and takes. Out of wrath, jealousy, need for affection and vengeance towards both Ikaris and humanity, Druig decides to remain an operative and enforcer for Arishem, and bring Ikaris to the judge so he could be reprogrammed, or in other words, "judged". Druig also committed many atrocities all over the universe and he was known to be an ally for Thanos and The Order of Fenris.
Between "The Fantastic Knights" saga and Ikaris[]
Druig the Eternal did not appear in these fanfilms. However, he still had a massive influence during these periods of time. Druig's schemes were carried out by Thanos, Andrea Von Strucker, her husband and her own faction during the Fantastic Knight saga of fanfilms, as these threatening, genocidal and mass murdering tyrants all wanted to destroy Earth, wipe out many other planets and reshape the universe. Therefore, they have all shared a common goal with Druig and they've operated under his influence.
After they have all failed, Arishem has sent Druig to continue carrying out their plans under his instructions. Part of this plan was to retrieve Ikaris and any other Eternal who has bonded with humanity, and bring them hostage to Arishem so they could be reset.
Ikaris[]
After Ikaris' foster father Cameron Creed reveals Ikaris the truth about his past, Arishem creating the Eternals and his purpose and choice of redemption, Druig enigmatically walks out of the shadows and shoots laser at Cameron, thus killing him with no remorse. Druig then turns to his cousin and explains that he is here to deliver Ikaris to Arishem the Judge, so he could be reborn with no previous memory.
Ikaris however protects his foster mother and threatens that if he shall be delivered by force to Arishem, then Druig shall die. Druig also reveals that he committed many atrocities around the galaxy with no signs of remorse, and that he doesn't do it for Arishem, since he has much bigger plans and he is more ambitious than his superior. The two cousins then fight each other with no mercy, and as the tyrant gains the upper hand, Ikaris' foster mother Charlette comes to protect her own beloved Eternal being and points a gun at Druig. Druig however shoots a strong beam of plasma at Charlette, thus killing her. Ikaris promises to kill Druig for what he has done to his foster family. However, Druig then reminds him about his real family and purpose, and promises to convince Arishem that Ikaris should be killed alongside humanity for his acts of treason towards The Celestials.
Druig's plans to mock Ikaris seem to be even more successful as the president shifted the blame onto all The Eternals and mostly Ikaris. All of this incrimination has happened under the influence of The Peaceful Society's obsessed and destructive leader, Ken Richie. While Ken was preparing his own forces to kill Ikaris and stop the Eternals from committing an "alien invasion", Druig succeeds in convincing his superior Arishem to have Ikaris killed, on condition that he is anyway delivered and reprogrammed by the judge. However, Arishem out of interest to see wether Sersi is loyal to him or to humanity and to Ikaris allows Sersi to try and protect Ikaris and the human race from Druig.
While a massive battle between Ken Richie's forces and Ikaris has occurred, Druig interferes and reveals himself to Ken and the soldiers from his society. Druig then uses his powers to make a cop's gun float in the air and break into half. He then officially announces that Arishem is currently intending to wipe out the human race, but he adds that for Ikaris things are much more personal. Out of intent of finishing his job properly and protecting humans and their dominance over other races, Ken shifts the blame immediately onto all of the Eternals, and shoots Druig, attempting to kill him first. However, Druig sarcastically remarks that human weaponry is usually not strong enough to defeat or overpower an Eternal. Druig then uses his magic to possess Ken Richie's gun and this leads to Ken unwillingly shooting his own henchmen.
Druig then causes Richie's gun to float out of his hands towards him. Grabbing the gun, Druig the Eternal attempts to shoot Ken and kill him in a "human way". However, Sersi comes to the rescue and protect Ikaris. She stands in Druig's way, and since a human gun cannot overpower her, Druig cannot shoot Ikaris or Ken. He angrily asks Sersi why she's protecting Ikaris. She replies that she made her choice to protect and give love to Ikaris and remarks that saving humanity isn't a crime and that he is the real criminal. Druig then vengefully replies that he shall kill both of them before he delivers their bodies to Arishem who shall reprogram them. However, before he successfully does all this, Ken Richie escapes from the three Eternals and the three of them start a rough battle. While Ken entered the base of The Peaceful Society and has experimented on the Eternal being Kingo by injecting a serum which deactivates his body and detaches his programming from Arishem the Judge, the fearsome Druig continues fighting against his hated cousin Ikaris, with no mercy at all.
Ikaris calls him a monster for brutally killing his foster parents. Druig then shows his true motives and desires as he remarks that he is doing personal things to Ikaris for being loved by human beings unlike him. He never felt appreciation, love and warmth from anyone and therefore he developed lust for human love and appreciation. However, he missed the chance of being loved due to Ikaris' bond with lots of humans, and he watched for many years as Ikaris became a heroic figure for most humans and an icon of hope for them. While Ikaris easily opened up to the human race, Druig never had the courage to do so and stand up to Arishem the Judge. Therefore, his ultimate goal was to kill Ikaris for being better than him and become like him afterwards. He did not really care what Arishem would do to after that, as he had his own desire of ruling over the humans by force, thus he abandoned his previous goal of riding Earth from it's humanity completely.
Ikaris replies to his speech and tells him that he is no hero or cousin but only a monstrous sociopath. Ikaris adds that Arishem will judge him for his failure to achieve and deliver him. The furious Druig angrily tells his cousin to shut up and shoots him with a laser beam, unable to defeat Ikaris. Ikaris remarks that the power of love is what kept him stronger than any of Druig's dark magics or his other powers and abilities.
Ikaris and Sersi almost defeated Druig at the same moment, but before they could harm the mad tyrant, The Peaceful Society has captured the trio of Eternals.
As the three of them are kept hostage inside the society's base of operations, their leader Ken appears once again with the obsession of killing the Eternal beings for the good of humankind and using them to further his schemes and defences during future wars. Ken Richie then attempts to inject the trio of Eternals, but before he manages to do so, Druig uses power on him and under the influence of that dark magic, Ken Richie injects himself with the serum, which happens to kill humans too by disfiguring them into a pile of ash. After Ken dies, Druig takes control over the facility and flies to London in order to burn some humans to rule the world with the use of fear.
Druig then burns some houses and people in London, thus killing dozens of citizens and bribing the rest of them to drink the serum so he could conquer the area and cause more chaos. He threatens that if they don't all drink the serum, then he shall burn more areas in London and elsewhere. Before his plans succeed, Sersi approaches him and the two battle to death. Druig seems to have the upper hand and he tries to inject Sersi with the serum he has. However, before he does so, Ikaris sneaks infront of Sersi and sacrifices himself to keep Sersi alive and well. Sersi promises to protect the human race at all costs for Ikaris. Druig unleashes his anger and sadistically injects Ikaris with the serum.
Ikaris is deactivated and he falls to the ground before turning into a pile of ash. However, his legacy has only just begun. Sersi unleashes her full potential and shoots laser from her chest at Druig. The ruthless Eternal then breaks into half, just before Druig is finally deactivated. He remains deceased, although it is unknown wether The Celestials shall find him or not, despite his usefulness to them being expired.
Personality[]
Druig is a ruthless, killjoy and opportunistic tyrant who enjoys harming others for his own satisfaction. He resembles Druig in the Marvel comics, but he seems to be the total opposite of the mostly heroic Druig in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. This version of Druig is known as a tyrannical conqueror of worlds, working for The Order of Fenris with The Celestials giving him genocidal orders.
He sparks his hatred towards his cousin Ikaris and dedicates his entire life to exact his vengeance on him. Despite their common bloodlines, Druig is opposed to Ikaris and the two are archenemies and mighty foes to one another. Druig's biggest desire is to become better than Ikaris and have Sersi for himself. He did mention that Sersi was his ex love interest before Ikaris was engineered. However, this Eternal warlord has no love or emotions for anyone but himself. He was proven many times to merely even serve Arishem with loyalty.
Trivia[]
- He has a massive influence over the MFU, since The Order of Fenris operate together with him and therefore he has superiority over the entire organization of HYDRA, including it's high-ranked officials such as Jasper Sitwell or Thanos, under the disguise of Alexander Pierce.
- He was also known to be Thanos' ally and associate.
- Druig was the only villainous Eternal to appear in the MFU movies.
- In the Marvel Cinematic Universe feature films. Druig is rather heroic while Ikaris happens to be one of the leading villains, as well as the main antagonist underneath Arishem.
