~ Edwin's final lie before his demise. |
Edwin Fuarson is the overarching antagonist of the 2023 Sonic.EXE horror game, Miles.EPS, and the main antagonist of the prequel Buried Fortitude.
He is the father and murderer of Blair, who he killed after they threatened to arrest him for his crimes. Following this, Edwin harvested parts of Blair's spirit, as he was researching immortality in order to escape the police, after being fired from SEGA Inc. for "supposedly" breaking a prototype of the game. This was a lie, as Blair knew where Edwin had hid the cartridge and was then able to possess it, despite the agony from living inside it. However, thanks to the player, Blair managed to get their revenge and kill their father.
He was voiced by tucann's friend, Celeste (previously known as FreakyFruit), who was also one of the 4 playtesters for the game.
Appearance[]
Edwin's appearance is shown to be a brown haired man wearing a grey shirt as well as purple eyes.
As a ghost, he is completely devoid of colour, with star shaped eyes.
Personality[]
Edwin is a former SEGA employee who was conducting research into immortality, as he had planned to kill Blair years in advance. Due to his desire of escaping scot-free, he became obsessed with this immortality research in the hopes of finally cheating death permanently.
After murdering Blair and harvesting parts of their spirit, Edwin finally achieved immortality, becoming a ghost in the process. However, because he was unable to hide the cartridge he stole before he was fired, it was stolen and played by numerous people leading up to the release of Sonic and Knuckles. In a similar fashion to both the grim reaper and Jack the Ripper, Edwin would hunt down the last person to play the cartridge and kill them, as he could never let the world know about his true nature. What he didn't realise however, was that Blair had possessed the cartridge in the hopes that Edwin would play it, allowing Blair to finally take revenge.
Biography[]
Background[]
Edwin was born on October 31st, 1962. His family was very wealthy, causing him to become very egotistical and spoiled. On July 16th, 1978, he married Natasha Aevum, who now goes by Natasha Fuarson.
Edwin and Natasha's child, Blair, was born on September 25th, 1979 with Gonadal dysgenesis, which Edwin did not take very well. He thought Blair was, in his own words, a “mistake of nature” and “a freak”. Back in 1987, Edwin divorced Natasha, taking the custody of Blair in the process, who was only 8 years old at the time. This added even more trauma and stress onto Blair’s already chaotic and miserable life.
Miles.EPS[]
While he only appears at the end of the game, he is mentioned by Miles.EPS during the player's playthrough, tormenting them due to Miles.eps not realising that it's not Edwin playing the game. However, in the game's good ending, Blair finally realizes this and therefore spared their life, ordering them to stand still as Edwin was approaching. Edwin then goes on to talk directly to the player, asking them to destroy the game before he tears off their spine and drive it through their neck, but Miles.eps stops him from doing so, allowing them to finally kill Edwin. He lies about begging for mercy and how he'll treat Blair nicely, but fails, as Blair refuses and finally takes their revenge against him.
If the player doesn't manage to survive as Sonic, Knuckles and Robotnik in their initial sections of gameplay, as well as not finding all 5 Easter Eggs, the bad ending is achieved, with Edwin killing the player. This is visualised by the player's desktop wallpaper changing to an image of Edwin's ghost appearance.
Trivia[]
- Despite only appearing at the very end of the game, the bad and worst endings or flashbacks, Edwin is the one who caused Blair's death, leading to the events of the game, where Blair manifested themselves as Miles.eps after possessing the cartridge Edwin stole, therefore making Edwin the overarching antagonist for most of the game, as well as the true main antagonist of the game as a whole, after Miles.eps was revealed to be Blair.
- Edwin's whole character and overarching narrative was designed specifically so that players would hate him. Specifically, hating Edwin as a person rather than hating the way he was written.
- Edwin originally shared the same whispering voice as Miles.eps, only pitched down with added chorus. However, this changed during development thanks to tucann's friend FreakyFruit, who was also one of the 4 playtesters for the game. He offered to lend his voice for Edwin which allowed Edwin to stand out more.
- Edwin is essentially the complete opposite of Blair in terms of personality, motives, character development, etc.
