Ego is the secondary antagonist of the 2023 fanfilm/presentation Guardians of The Galaxy.

He is a deity whom takes the form of both a planet and a humanoid superhuman in parallel. He is also Peter Quill/Starlord's biological father, as well as the husband of Meredith Quill.

He is portrayed by Shea La Boef.

History[]

Ego was a deity who had enough power to destroy and create planets, as he even created a planet of his own, which was an extension to his lifeform. He was meant to keep balance across the universe, but as a deity, he sometimes had to destroy other planets and commit actions of tyranny to keep the balance of the universe as it is. One day, Ego traveled to Earth in his human form, and he met there a woman named Meredith Quill, which he genuinely fell in love with. He married her and the two had a child called Peter, who would become the head of The Guardians of The Galaxy, known as Starlord. However, when Peter was still a baby, Meredith noticed that Ego acts out of selfishness and commits some tyrannical crimes against others. She therefore decides to send Peter on Rocket Raccoon's ship back to Earth. Unfortunately, when she succeeds with her plans to let Peter escape, the furious deity Ego confronts her and asks her firstly what she's done, claiming that he shall not let her ruin the balance. As she explains her point of view about him, Ego gets mad and yells at her that he loves her and Peter, and he demands her that they do not leave him behind. However, before anything else could happen, and before she realizes how much Ego loves her wether it was out of obsession or genuine, pure love, Thane attacks them both, before he starts demanding for Ego's brain so he could weaponize and control him and his planet form, and he kills Meredith in the process, as she resists to his attack. When Thane tries to talk Ego into letting him control his brain, Ego threatens to do whatever it takes to destroy Thane and keep the balance as it is, even at the cost of more lives and other races. Out of fear to lose the battle, Thane retreats, promising to have his revenge. After that, Thane also destroyed the Spartax Tribe.

Ego then travels towards Earth, as his inhuman extension wreaks havoc on Earth before he finds Peter and the other guardians with him, along with Thane, who is disguised in his human identity under the name Jansen Harris. Ego claims that he and Peter have to talk about things, but Peter resists him while thinking that Ego is the culprit and believing Thane's tricks. Ego out of rage tries to kill them by shooting a small meteorite towards them. However, they duck and he fails to kill them. As the heroes are running towards their ship inside the city of New York, Ego chases after them from behind. Eventually, Ego catches up with them and uses his powers to pull Rocket Raccoon towards him, and above the surface, threatening to kill the raccoon. However, Peter uses the Excalibur from the ancient times to stab Ego, knocking out his human lifeform, before he and his allies run onto the guardian's spaceship.

Ego however manages to find the spaceship in his planet lifeform. He then uses his human lifeform to enter the ship, and he once again asks his son to talk to him about things. He asks his son not to force his hand onto Earth, threatening to destroy it if he doesn't have any other choice, despite genuinely not wanting to do so. Eventually, realizing that he's a tyrant and that he was wrong to always act out of his powerful ego as a deity above all races, he allows his son to shoot his brain, revealing his brain to everyone. However, as he explained that he did not destroy the tribe or kill his wife and Peter's beloved mother, "Jansen" shoots and betrays Peter, thus injuring him before revealing the truth; he did this and he was the mastermind behind all the havoc and acts of pure genocide, since he was actually no other person than Thane, the son of Thanos himself and a warmonger who plots to control the existence and mainly The Multiverse as well as many other universes. Thane killed Meredith for control over Ego's brain, and committed genocide on the planet of the Spartax tribesmen. Thane did not care about Thanos, since he was only a mentor and a tool for him to take control of whatever exists.

While Thane and Peter/Starlord have proceeded to the final battle between them, Ego went to sacrifice himself by using all of his powers to create a massive hand and destroy himself and grab Thane, so he could destroy Thane in the process.

Personality[]

Ego is usually a narcissistic, arrogant and tyrannical deity, who sees himself as a supreme ruler of the entire universe, keeping balance in ways which might be committing terror towards other races and planets. He doesn't seem to care too much about the value of a life, except that he does genuinely care for his important allies such as his wife and son, begging them not to abandon him and going to Earth to find Peter and trying to solve their problem in a protagonistic way. He also cares about the balance of the universe, despite his selfishness.

However, he does redeem himself after he realizes that he was wrong, and he sacrifices himself for other beings, including the life of his own son.

Trivia[]

  • He is the second live-action and cinematic version of Ego, after his MCU counterpart. They are also both fathers of Peter Quill aka Starlord.
    • However, this version was not even half as evil or ruthless, as he was rather a well meaning extremist who redeemed himself afterwards.
  • Despite being villainous, Ego did not have bad intentions, making him more of a ruthless anti-villainous character.
