Elemental Steve is a major character in the 2020-21 web series Rainbow Quest, and a posthumous protagonist in it's 2021-22 sequel web series Twisted Rainbow, both installments of Steve Cinematic Universe.
In RQ, serving as one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Time Steve) of Season 3, a minor protagonist in Season 4, a major antagonist in Season 5, the secondary antagonist of Season 6 and a supporting character in Season 7
Elemental Steve, once a good-aligned fighter with an obligation to help people in his nature, went down a dark path rooted on an overly-obsessive idolization of his creator Galaxy Steve, after slowly regaining portions of his memories. Combined with his desire to protect his brother Time Steve from harm and the trauma of both the Darkness' seige and his brother nearly destroying himself when he overused his powers to freeze time, Elemental took things too far in his now twisted beliefs on the greater good.
He is based on his original counterpart.
Personality[]

~ Elemental Steve maintaining his delusion. |
Even after the destruction of the Darkness, Elemental Steve's animosity towards Sabre for the things he did while under the Darkness' control never faded, becoming more aggressive towards him whenever they interacted. This aggression lead to him straining his relationship with Time Steve due to his friendship with Sabre and often lead to the two butting heads whenever Sabre arrived in the Time Dimension to ask Time for favors. Regardless of how significant and important the favors were, Elemental was firm on upholding Galaxy Steve's morals and eventually banished Sabre from the Time Dimension for attempting to interfere.
After becoming a villain and embracing Galaxy Steve's morals completely, Elemental deluded himself into believing that all the cruelty he was bringing to the Steves was necessary. He fully believed that since Time was refusing to help him so that he could continue helping Sabre for the greater good, he had the final say in the decisions that he and Time would've. All of his actions were, in his mind, completely justified due to the rules he was attempting to hold up. Time's decision to not go with Elemental and instead having Elemental take the Green Village Leader's life felt like a betrayal to him, completely disregarding the life he willingly took to get his message across to his brother and former friends. Even when attempting to apologize and fix things, Elemental claimed that he was trying his hardest to do what he thought was right and apologize to his brother, but was unable to stammer out a sentence because of his denial over how he was going about things, falling back on his defense that he knew what the best actions to help Sabre and Time were and that they simply didn't understand him. Sabre's criticisms over his methods resulted in Elemental completely shutting down and flying into a rage. Even when confronted with a clearly upset and angered Sabre over seeing how far he had fallen, Elemental was completely incapable of seeing how he was in the wrong and ironically saw Sabre as antagonistic and vindictive towards him. He was delusional enough to believe that no one had gotten hurt due to his actions, completely ignoring the pain he put Time through.
Although he always had a tendency to be blunt and harsh, Elemental's cruelty skyrocketed significantly in the wake of his heel-face turn, becoming highly immoral and deranged in how he treated his former friends. He mercilessly imprisoned Time Steve within the Time Dimension and held him captive for what he thought was for his own good. He similarly held the Green Village Leader hostage and bargained with Sabre to hand over Time Steve in exchange for the Leader's safety, resulting in his accidental death. Elemental also seemed to present a sense of sadism to his crimes, even if he believed they were all in good faith, continuing to taunt Time and Sabre and taking glee in being in control of situations, namely the hostage situation with the Green Village Leader.
Due to thinking that he was being the bigger person by taking matters into his own hands, Elemental saw himself as superior to his own friends and quickly grew increasingly egotistical and vain with a complete sense of self-righteousness. His arrogance lead to him developing a strange fascination with controlling people. He felt as though his power and initial promise to keep Galaxy Steve's morals made him entitled to leading Time to succeeding in their goals. Even when under immense stress, anger and regret, he willingly flaunted his power in front of Sabre. Elemental was also immensely hypocritical, believing that he was allowed to control Time and make him bend to his will, but was unable to see himself be restricted to whether or not he could speak to his brother again, enraging him. He also frequently boasted and bragged about power and how morally superior he was compared to Time and Sabre.
Elemental wasn't without his own internal struggles, however. Having previously killed a Green Steve infected by the Darkness to save his friends, his death had haunted Elemental ever since and it's likely he broke down after learning he had killed the Green Village Leader during his attack on his village, reminding him of his previous killing of the infected Green Steve. Elemental's descent into villainy also revealed his greatest fear: abandonment. Elemental was petrified at the idea of losing his friends and was especially scared of losing Time Steve, so much that he attempted to apologize for what he did, although he still saw his actions as noble and lacked the courage to face Time himself. Elemental's hypocrisy also tied into one of his standards: he never intended to hurt people who had no involvement in his business with Time and Sabre, and was devastated to learn that his attack on Sabre's village had resulted in the Green Village Leader's death, sending him into a mental breakdown of denial.
Elemental also cared a great deal for his creator, Galaxy Steve and motivated his crimes out of love for him. In his last moments, he realized that he had been tricked into having to kill himself to let Time Steve go free from his machine and, having shown deep regret and remorse for what he did, willingly sacrificed himself to save Time and gave him advise on how to deal with his grief and move forward in life. In the World Beyond, Elemental reconciled with Sabre began living peacefully in the afterlife, redeemed and living a better life.
Biography[]
Creation[]
Elemental and Time Steve were created from the death of Galaxy Steve at the hands of Void Steve. Aside from knowing their names and some of their basic powers, Time and Elemental had no memories. They embodied the essence of Galaxy Steve's power as opposed to being two fragments of his soul. They watched Sabre and Rainbow Steve from afar. When they, along with a Blue Steve they picked up from the Spirit World, were ambushed by Void Steve, the two brothers made themselves known and saved the trio from him. After introducing themselves, they decided to stick with the group and help them out on their adventures since they had nowhere else to go.
A Rash Decision[]
After helping evacuate two citizens away from the ruined Green Kingdom, the group discovered that one of them was starting to become infected with Darkness, being in hysteria and believing it couldn't be stopped. Since the infection was relatively small, the Green Steve could be locked up in a machine to pause the spread. However, Elemental Steve killed him instantly, shocking everyone and terrifying the other remaining Green Steve. Elemental claimed that it was to ensure everyone's safety, but everyone else was disappointed in him, Time in particular. The others decided not to include him when they went to help the citizens at the Violet Kingdom.
This was where Rainbow Steve began to fall under pressure, seeing himself as unfit to be the Hero. After he decided to join forces with Void Steve, the others put their differences aside with Elemental Steve, despite him still believing his decision to kill the Green Steve was justified. However, Rainbow Steve's power was too much for them to handle, alongside the arrival of two corrupted Steves; Soul and Corruption. When all three cornered them in the new Rainbow Hub after Sabre let them to try negotiating, Time Steve nearly destroyed himself freezing time and sending everyone away to safety.
This devastated Elemental, with Sabre giving him emotional support in his grief. He and Sabre went off to confront Void after Rainbow Steve sent them a portal to his location. Elemental watched in horror as Rainbow Steve was killed and Void Steve absorbed the Rainbow Crystals. Time Steve, who was believed to be dead until this point, returned and saved Elemental and Sabre. However, after a funeral for Rainbow Steve, Sabre fell to the Darkness.
Helping Out Less[]
In the two months Sabre spent under the control of the Darkness, Time and Elemental helped the Steves in his stead. But, they slowly came around less, mainly residing in the Time Dimension and only appearing when they were needed. Sabre was ultimately the one to kill Void Steve without help from either brother. An era of peace settled in, and as time went on, both Time and Elemental Steve began to remember some bits of Galaxy Steve. He had preferred to stay out of Steve affairs, and the two brothers had picked that up from him. Elemental had no involvement when the Corrected Sun were around.
At this point, Elemental had become more strict, keeping an eye on Time to ensure he didn't interfere with anything. It came to a head when he was helping Sabre and his new friend M, a Red Steve, search for a portal that led to the World Below. Elemental had wanted to follow Galaxy Steve's path, while Time wanted to remain an individual. This culminated in Elemental locking away entrance to the Time Dimension, disconnecting himself and Time from the overworld. Time had tried escaping several times, only to be attacked and beaten by Elemental himself.
One day, Sabre returned, now once again having Darkness powers. Elemental saw and confronted him. The two fought each other, with Sabre wanting Time to be set free and make his own choices. Time Steve stops the fight, surrendering to Elemental so neither of them got hurt. Some time later, Time got the upperhand on Elemental, locking him out of the Time Dimension.
Self-righteous[]
Elemental searched for Time, finding out he and Sabre had moved into a Steve village. He held one of the Village Leaders, a Green Steve, hostage. When Time refused to go with him back to the Time Dimension and disowned him as a brother, Elemental used an ability called Earth Splitter to destroy the village, killing the Green Village Leader in the process. Elemental, despite getting Time cornered, had a moment of humility and teleported away, sparing Time from being captured again. Elemental stalked Time from afar, with Sabre noticing and confronting him multiple times. Elemental wasn't aware the Village Leader had died because of his Earth Splitter attack, and was in shock and denial when Sabre had told him the truth.
One day, it was taken too far when Elemental had attacked Sabre. At this point, Sabre had rebalanced the Darkness and lost his powers, putting him at a disadvantage. He was saved by Professor Red, who teleported him away. Elemental was able to track their location and appear in Professor Red's lab in the Red Kingdom, attacking the Red Leader. This attack disfigured the Red Leader, putting the Red Kingdom in jeopardy as M had to take up the mantle as leader.
Only One Can Live[]
One day, Elemental Steve is approached by Hypno Steve, not knowing he was the Red Leader seeking revenge. He gave Elemental blueprints to build a machine to trap Time and Elemental in a pocket dimension. He told Elemental that this would allow them to become Galaxy Steve again, when in reality it would force the two to fight to the death. Elemental began to build the machine at Galaxy Steve's old house, and Time Steve could sense him due to their brotherly connection. He and Sabre went to confront him, only for Elemental Steve to activate the machine and seal their fates.
Sabre was turned invisible and intangible, while Time and Elemental remained intact. One of them needed to die for the other to leave. The two fought each other, but the fight was ultimately a stalemate. Time Steve and Sabre are able to make Elemental realize that he was tricked by Hypno, as well as realize that Galaxy Steve is gone forever and that he could never be brought back. Realizing that there was no way out, Elemental decided to sacrifice himself and destroy himself so that Time could be released. He gave Time Steve some final words of encouragement before he died, releasing Sabre and Time.
Aftermath[]
Elemental had done enough good in the past when fighting the Darkness to be sent to the World Beyond, rather than go to the World Below and be turned into a Demon Steve. Sabre sees him again when he visits the Blue Leader to get the Blue Crystal Shard to stop the First Curse. Elemental simply tells Sabre to tell Time that he is a good person.
