| ~ Elsa succumbs to her dark side |
Queen Elsa of Arendelle (or simply Elsa), is a major character from the "Disney Princesses but they're Villains" series of songs by British musical artist Lydia the Bard. She is a villainous adaptation of the character from the 2013 animated Disney film Frozen, serving as the main protagonist of her arc of the series.
She is the Queen of Arendelle who accidentally froze the kingdom and fled into isolation. Accepting herself but also becoming angry toward Arendelle for their not accepting her, she unleashed a devastating storm on them. When her sister Anna comes to beg her to put an end to the madness, Elsa instead blames her for her own villainous actions and freezes her to death. Long afterwards, she becomes remorseful, but her dark side urges her to continue freezing the world. Despite her resistance, she realizes that it will only be a matter of time before she gives in.
She was voiced by Lydia the Bard.
Biography[]
This version of Elsa's story begins similarly to how it did in the Disney version: Elsa was born as a princess to the kingdom of Arendelle. From a young age, Elsa had cryokenetic abilities, a byproduct of her mother's Northuldra heritage. She and her younger sister Anna spent a lot of time together as children until an accident caused Elsa to hurt Anna with her powers. Anna was taken to magical trolls, who helped her but instructed the king and queen to keep Elsa' ice powers a secret from Anna from that point on. They agreed, but also kept the two sisters apart for the rest of their childhoods, with Elsa becoming cold towards Anna and constantly refusing her attempts to go and play.
When the two were adults, the king and queen died while at sea, leading to Elsa being coronated as the new queen. Anna and Elsa briefly reconnected, but when Anna met a handsome prince named Hans at the coronation and asked for Elsa's blessing to be wed, Elsa refused due to how short of time the two had known each other. In a fit of anger, Anna accidentally makes Elsa defend herself with her ice magic, leading to her accidentally freezing the kingdom and fleeing into the mountains.
While in isolation, Elsa grew to accept herself, and decide that she was better off living alone away from everyone else. Additionally, however, she became bitter and rage-filled towards the people of her kingdom, hating them for their supposed mistreatment and ostracizing of her. She decides to allow the snowstorm enveloping her kingdom to rage longer and even more powerful, freezing any that dare to leave their homes, and looking on with vengeful and sadistic glee as many people freeze to death. She also creates ice monsters that attack any they see.
Anna treks out of the kingdom and makes it to Elsa's castle of ice on a mountaintop, begging Elsa to end the deadly storm. However, Elsa has been growing more vengeful and wrathful, and refuses to stop. She sadistically forces Anna to watch as she massacres countless people, even killing two innocent children. Anna tries to reach out to her humanity and remind her of the good times they had as children, but Elsa instead blames Anna for pushing her and making her constantly uncomfortable with herself. She accuses Anna of only coming for her own benefit, and lashes out at her. She shoots ice magic into Anna's heart, freezing it. Even while freezing from the inside, Anna still tries to reach out to Elsa, who simply finishes freezing her to death.
However, triumph is fleeting. Long after Anna and Arendelle are lost and the world has frozen under her power, Elsa slowly began to lose herself again, this time to loneliness and despair. She begins to realize the consequences of her actions, and understand that she went to extreme lengths in her rage and anger. She begins feeling guilty, though a voice deep within keeps telling her to continue freezing everything. Initially, she resists, not wanting to cause any more violence. However, with Anna gone, there is no one left to stay her hand, and she realizes it will only be a matter of time before her powers get the better of her. With that knowledge, she sadly comes to accept that she will eventually give in to her darker impulses and continue freezing the world.
Personality[]
Elsa is bitter and wrathful from how she was seemingly cast out by her people, especially towards Anna for supposedly pushing her towards steps she was simply not ready to make, making her uncomfortable towards herself. She blames Anna for her situation, and goes to extreme measures for revenge, sadistically taking lives and lashing out at Anna, claiming an "eye for an eye" is justice. Even when Anna reaches out to her with love, Elsa coldly murders her.
However, after her vendetta is complete, Elsa begins reflecting on the consequences of her actions and begins to feel remorse, eventually falling into despair and guilt. However, despite fighting her dark side who wants her to continue down the villainous path, she knows she will eventually give into them and become again the monster everyone always feared her to be.

Trivia[]
- Lydia the Bard stated that the 2025 video was intended more as a revisiting/reboot of the "villainous Elsa" idea than a continuation of the 2022 video, wanting to do more than a minor key cover with a short narrative assigned to it, and therefore it could be concluded that the 2022 video and the 2025 video share different continuities. She did add that "they’re not super connected, but you could say [the 2025 video] is a loose prequel, and that after the dust settles and Elsa experiences the consequences of her actions, she sings that previous cover."
- The story of this version of Elsa does not take place in the same continuity as Lydia the Bard's story of villainous Anna.
- This version of Elsa is far more tragic than her original unpublished counterpart, as it is likely she was being influenced by her dark side. This would explain why she is resisting it, because she does not want to give in a second time.
- Lydia the Bard's original Elsa also did not murder Anna in cold blood but accidentally froze her heart. This makes the new Elsa also slightly less tragic, given her actions were deliberate and not inadvertent.
