Emperor Belos is the secondary antagonist of The Owl House and Cthulhu Mythos crossover fanfic The Gods Awaken. He is the puppet ruler over the Boiling Isles who wants to destroy the Earth. He is the archenemy of Luz Noceda, Eda Clawthorne, Lilith, and Camila.
History[]
Prehistory[]
The being known as Emperor Belos was created thousands of years ago back when Nyarlathotep was ruling the Boiling Isles unopposed. When a hooded figure successfully managed to weaken the Crawling Chaos enough to be imprisoned in glass, Nyarlathotep split his soul from his body seeing to it that within fifty years, a puppet king would arise to prepare the way for his return. His soul incubated itself into the ground and hibernated gradually taking on a more humanoid appearance. During the Savage Ages, Belos arrives and claims that the witches were practicing magic incorrectly thus leading to the establishment of the coven system.
After solidifying his rule, Belos would eventually meet a young Camila Noceda when she inadvertently came to the demon realm with human garbage and raised her. He even went as far as to give her some of his magic thus is the reason as to why Camila's daughter was able to read glyphs. However, when Camila discovered his true intentions for the Day of Unity, she combatted her former adoptive father and greatly wounded him to the point of death before escaping to the human realm. From there, Belos developed a fierce hatred of humans and would prepare to enact an invasion on Earth on the Day of Unity.
The Gods Awaken[]
After Nyarlathotep's thousand-year sentence expired, Belos assists him with retrieving his lost power whilst secretly planning on killing him. Being forced to enlist Odalia Blight into the Emperor's Coven, Belos grants her a staff that drains magic from different sources. With the portal recreated, Belos sends Odalia and an army of sapient armor (made of the souls of the witches and demons Belos petrified over the years) to Earth hoping that they kill several humans along the way. Odalia retrieves the Necronomicon and kidnaps Camila.
Belos arranges for his former adoptive daughter to be executed in a huge display predestined to be before Willow's witch duel with Boscha. Unfortunately for the Emperor, the Owl Spy/Golden Guard Alador Blight, forms a plan and rescues Camila through the use of illusions. After being freed, Camila gets some glyphs and uses them to battle Belos. While they are fighting, Luz, Amity, and the twins place fire glyphs on the portal machine along with creating bombs to detonate the laboratory.
Horrified, Belos rants about how he was intending on using the portal to summon the Outer Gods into the demon realm so he could take their godlike powers as his own and destroy the Earth and recreate the Boiling Isles in his image. However, Nyarlathotep anticipated that he would betray him and stabs him through the chest with a fake Shining Trapezohedron. Realizing his fate, Belos tries to beg his former master for mercy, but Nyarlathotep instead grabs him and assimilates him back into his body thus ending Belos' reign over the Isles.
Appearance[]
Underneath his mask, Belos is revealed to have black hair and sideburns with slimy tentacles eclipsing his lower lip. On the upper part of his body, he had scaly orange skin and eldritch scrawling. Towards the bottom of his body was lobster-like casing, a gaping maw, and an appendage resembling a lung. In the place of fingers, Belos possessed tentacles laced with suction cups and mouths on the palms of his hands. A purple substance oozed from him.
