~ Emperor Belos, in "Luz Educates Belos." |
Philip Wittebane, later known as Emperor Belos and often advertised as Supdupgoop, is the main antagonist of The Owl House Abridged series made by Tomotasauce.
He is a human witch-hunter from the 17th century who went to the Boiling Isles to look for his brother Caleb, who he found had fallen in love with a witch, and so he killed him. Philip then, with help from the Collector, assumed the new identity of Belos to decieve the inhabitants and lead them to their deaths so he will be praised as the greatest witch-hunter. He established the Coven system, which would allow him to use a lethal Draining Spell on all witches on the Day of Unity. He is the arch-nemesis of Luz Noceda and of his creation Hunter.
He is voiced by Tomotasauce himself, who dubs assorted clips from The Owl House.
Personality[]
A notable difference between this version of Belos and his canon counterpart is that this version is far more blunt. He tends to be far more frank and honest with people about the bad things he's done, and he is somewhat more prone to cuss words. This can be seen clearly in how this Belos, unlike canon, is a card-carrying villain and not delusional. At times he's an attention-seeker, doing things just to be mean-spirited. He also admits to enjoying some of his more cruel acts.
However, even with these differences, Belos still retains much of his canon personality. He still tries to come across as calm, collected, and sophisticated; it's just that those around him often test his patience. Even when being blunt with people, he usually maintains his cool while doing so, which often makes him come across as smug in the videos. He also still has at least some belief that he's right, since he tries justifying his fratricide when talking to Caleb's ghost.
One thing that this Belos seems to have that the canon Belos doesn't is some form of standards, particularly disliking Odalia for her cuelty and soulless nature.
"Supdupgoop"[]
The videos "The Newest Belos Sensation", "The BRAND NEW Belos Sensation!", and "The ULTIMATE Belos Sensation" advertise Belos' sludge form as a product called Supdupgoop, which is short for Super Duper Goop. It is a sentient goop that can not only serve as a companion, but can also morph itself into various helpful household objects like kitchen knives.
Side-effects of ingesting Supdupgoop include: vengeful thoughts, hallucinations, mood swings, sudden British accents, the urge to kill witches, bird-murder, "Who the Hell is Caleb" syndrome, too many eyeballs, delusional asswipe syndrome, "You've angered the fandom" syndrome, becoming a stalker, victim-blaming, manipulation, and evil smirking.
Quotes[]
“ | Belos: So I walked up to him, he was eating oatmeal, and he looked at me and said, "Belos, are we the good guys?" Collector: Oooh, what did you do? Belos: I said "no," and I turned him into a statue and watched him crumble for a bit. |

“ | Belos: I was thinking, "how do I cement myself as one of the greatest villains of all time?" Well, that's simple: I just need to commit an act of true evil. Something so irredeemable that everyone will hate me forever. Luz: But why? Why go through all this? Belos: I'll do anything for a bit of online clout. |

Trivia[]
- The video "Belos is Heartless" is a video released before the series finale of The Owl House. It involves Belos being questioned on why there's a giant beating heart in his throne room, with him pretending he has some kind of grand master plan involving the heart when he doesn't have one and he's making things up. In the series finale of The Owl House, "Watching and Dreaming" (S3E3), Belos actually does use the giant heart as part of his final scheme even though he didn't always plan to. Tomotasauce acknowledged his surprisingly accurate prediction in "IT'S CANON NOW!? AGAIN?!"
