Helping you? HA! I'm the legendary hacker, Erif; I've been using you to get the Launch block for me so I can finally escape this wretched place.
~ Erif revealing his scheme to Scratch Cat

Erif is a major character in Huntedskelly's Immersion series (previously known as Scratch 3.0), serving as the main antagonist of Parts 2-5, the protagonist of Parts 6-9, the overarching antagonist of the spin-off series, Toxic Wastelands, and a supporting protagonist in the interconnected spin-off series, The Unfamous. He is a fictionalized version of the Scratch user XD_Erif_DX, who was banned for hacking in real life.

He was voiced by Huntedskelly, the creator of the games.

History[]

Immersion Part 2 | Out of the Trash[]

After getting banned by Huntedskelly, Erif was banished into the trash can. While stranded in the trash can, Erif used several deleted code blocks to build a rocketship so he could escape and get revenge on Huntedskelly for getting him banned. However, he found himself unable to acquire the Launch block, an ancient, retired code block that had been forgotten for ages. When Scratch Cat arrived in the trash can, Erif manipulated him into venturing into the depths of the trash so he could retrieve the Launch block before coming back to the surface and handing it to him. When Scratch Cat first encountered Erif, he stole the Launch block out of his backpack before attaching it to his rocket. He used it to fuel his rocket and blasted out of the trash can, but not before Scratch Cat latched onto it with his grappler.

Immersion Part 3 | Into the Deep[]

As Erif escaped the trash can, he flew his rocket into a debris field, where it suffered severe hull damage. Scratch Cat, who had managed to climb on top of the rocket with the help of his grappler, grabbed the Launch block and pulled it out of the rocket, causing it to lose its power source. With his ship doomed to explode, Erif quickly jumped out of the rocket and ventured toward Huntedskelly on foot. As Scratch Cat was getting help from Huntedskelly's friend, Pumpkin Boy, while stranded at sea, Erif quietly ventured to Huntedskelly's lair, then used the Broadcast Die block on him to drain his health down to near death. As Huntedskelly got hit, though, he quickly boarded a helicopter to escape, which later crash landed in the outlands.

Immersion Part 4 | Out of Scratch[]

Scratch Cat and Pumpkin Boy arrived at Huntedskelly's lair by helicopter, not aware that Erif had already struck. When they finally encountered Erif, he battled them using using various scripts. At the end of the battle, Pumpkin Boy held Erif at blockpoint, threatening to use his Broadcast Die block against him if he refused to reveal Huntedskelly's location. However, Erif evaded the threat by using the Go to Random Position block on both of them, banishing Scratch Cat to the outlands and Pumpkin Boy to a toxic wasteland. Erif then fled to a volcano in the Jurassic part of Scratch to hide from his foes. Scratch Cat eventually caught up to Huntedskelly, who was vulnerable to dying after getting hit by the Broadcast Die block.

Immersion Part 5 | Into the Showdown[]

After Pumpkin Boy got his communications back, he sent Scratch Cat to retrieve topaz so he could mix it with gold to forge a Change HP by 1 block to revive Huntedskelly. After Huntedskelly had been revived, Scratch Cat and Pumpkin Boy searched for Erif to finally defeat him. When they arrived at the volcano where Erif was hiding, he used the Hide block to make the ground disappear, sending them both into the volcano. When they finally encountered Erif, he blasted Pumpkin Boy out of the way with lava, leaving only Scratch Cat available to fight him. At the end of the battle, Scratch Cat attempted to use the Broadcast Die block on Erif, but he threw the script skywards and turned it into lava, attempting to assassinate Scratch Cat. However, his arch nemesis, Retaw, stepped in and saved Scratch Cat before trying to defeat Erif himself. As their fight was getting intense, however, Huntedskelly arrived and knocked Erif out. Retaw later delivered Erif to prison in the intergalactic void.

Immersion Part 6 | Broken Bars[]

While in prison, another prisoner known only by the name of The Imprisoned One helped Erif empower himself to fully harness the ability to hack, causing him to completely decode the prison walls and escape. He then flew to Naidisbo Space Prison to attempt to rescue The Imprisoned One per their request so they could help him get his revenge on Scratch, but he got beaten by a giant defense robot that blasted him to Earth, where he fell through the atmosphere before being caught by Nepo. As Erif got blasted to Earth, his suit got severely damaged, preventing him from using his hacks.

Immersion Part 7 | Open Fire[]

When Nepo introduced himself as the leader of the 1.4 Tribe, he also revealed his plans to make 1.4 take over Scratch following the rise of 3.0. He then imprisoned Erif and Pumpkin Boy, who both later escaped by means of a gadget that Erif had been working on for five days while in prison. Once they escaped prison, however, they got ganged up on by tribesmen, so they needed to escape the tribelands after that. They spent a long time fleeing the tribesmen through the tribelands, over the mountains, through a temple and into the outer fields. Erif and Pumpkin Boy later jumped off a cliff, then discovered a portal. They both walked through the portal, but it transported them to different locations; Pumpkin Boy got teleported to his neighborhood, while Erif got teleported to the moon.

Immersion Part 8 | The Opening[]

While on the moon, Erif found himself confronted with numerous meteor showers. The energy on his suit had run low, giving him the ability to use only one hack at a time. After some venturing on the moon, Erif found a spaceship flown by Scratch Cat an hijacked it to escape. He then searched for a communication station to allow himself to contact The Imprisoned One and inform them that he was coming. Upon arriving at the communication station, Erif used up the last of the power in his suit before reaching the control panel. He then recharged his ship, fixed his suit, and called The Imprisoned One to inform him of his impending arrival to help break him out of prison. Upon reaching direct contact with The Imprisoned One, however, Erif realized that The Imprisoned One had already escaped from prison, leaving his mission pointless, and that he had also released Void from prison. He then vowed to kill them both out of vengeance for The Imprisoned One betraying him.

The Unfamous[]

As Void was about to condemn Huntedskelly to his former solitary confinement cell, Erif arrived and glitched out the portal to the void, then fought Void alongside Pumpkin Boy to help stall him while Huntedskelly attempted to get help. However, it wasn't long before Void overpowered them both and sent them into the void. After the void got overloaded due to Mcgullicuty cloning himself repeatedly, Erif was released from the void, along with everyone else in it. Shortly afterwards, when Void revealed that he was going to let the void explode and destroy Scratch, Erif was the one who informed Huntedskelly that Void gained his powers by absorbing the void dimension long ago, and that by crashing the dimension and restarting it, he had inadvertently caused the impending omnicide. While Erif had no further involvement in defeating Void, he willingly let Pumpkin Boy to join his side in their search for The Imprisoned One.

Immersion Part 9 | Cold Trail[]

A few days after Void made his heroic sacrifice to prevent the omnicide of Scratch, Erif and Pumpkin Boy discovered that The Imprisoned One had destroyed the Obsidian Prison, another prison in the orbit of Scratch that contained top-secret information held by the Scratch Team, before escaping. A year after The Imprisoned One's escape, Erif detected power readings outside of Scratch, certain that they could belong to The Imprisoned One. While investigating, however, he got shot down by turrets on an automated spaceship that was intended to be destroyed when Scratch 3.0 launched, causing him to crash land on the surface of a frozen planet. While on the planet, Erif encountered numerous droids. He later found their leader, Nemesis 10-0, and upon seeing him stab Pumpkin Boy, he fought him. At the end of their battle, Nemesis explained to Erif that The Imprisoned One is named Alteration, and that he was the most dangerous person under the Scratch Team's containment. Nemesis then left the planet, ready to align himself with Alteration, leaving Erif behind.

As Immersion Part 10 remains stuck in development hell, it is unknown if Erif will come into contact with Alteration.

Abilities[]

Due to his long-running career as a hacker, Erif has vast access to code, which he uses as his primary attacks and defenses in the original pentalogy. Upon receiving his upgrades from Alteration, he gains the abilities to decode anything that's glitchy, double jump, teleport, and remotely control robots (and later to phase as well), albeit only when his suit has energy. Erif is also capable of manipulating lava, as he used it as a defense in both of his boss fights. He can also manipulate stone, as he used it to trap Scratch Cat in his second boss fight. Erif is also capable of constructing contraptions out of code, such as rockets and grapplers.

Trivia[]

  • "Erif" is "fire" spelled backwards. His nemesis, Retaw, is "water" spelled backwards, which is fitting given that water is used to extinguish fires.
