Exarch (also known as Sonic.exe) is the titular main antagonist of the Sonic.exe Demon Version series created by TheJacobSurgenor, serving as the titular main antagonist of Sonic.exe: The Demon Rises. He is a monstrous evil demon who mysteriously appeared in Mobius to wreack havoc, starting his quest for power by trapping Sonic in his dimension and setting off to kill his friends.
History[]
Biography[]
While it is unknown how Exarch came to be, it's heavily implied that he is a supernatural entity summoned from the Phantom Ruby portal accidentally conjured up by Dr. Eggman when Dark Sonic attacked him.
At the beginning of the tale, Sonic is running through Green Hill Zone, setting free a pack of animals from their capsule after defeating some of Eggman's robots. After freeing them, Sonic spots an sneaker in the trees identical to his and goes to look at it, only to see Exarch drop from the tree and hit the ground in front of Sonic. Sonic attempts to get him to spill his identity but fails, and prepares to run at Exarch, who sends him into a giant red ring that transports Sonic to his dimension.
Starting his reign of terror[]
After not hearing from Sonic for two weeks, Tails scopes out Green Hill Zone after landing in the Tornado for any traces of his best friend. Tails uses a spring to jump up to the higher platform and discover a plethora of animal corpses, mutilated, hung from the trees and stacked in piles on the ground. Tails begins to panic and suspect that a serial killer is nearby and is also hunting Sonic down, so he goes to find him. Tails traverses through the massacre before him and finds Sonic, who doesn't respond to his greetings. Tails approaches Sonic as he begins to twitch, but stops as soon as Tails puts his hand on his shoulder. Sonic immediately turns around and reveals himself to be Exarch, grabbing Tails by the arm and transporting him to the now burning Angel Island which the demon previously set on fire.
Tails becomes conscious again and realizes that his surroundings are burning before his eyes, and tries to escape the burning island. He begins to become paranoid and eventually starts running when Exarch starts chasing him, but Tails manages to get away and hide in the bushes while Exarch comes to his location, not noticing that Tails is nearby as he threatens to rip Tails apart when he finds him. He leaves and Tails goes to the first trap Knuckles had set up for him that dropped both him and Sonic into Hydrocity and waits for Exarch to arrive. When he does, he stands on the bridge as Tails hits the button, sending Exarch down to Hydrocity as he tries to claw his way to the top, but fails and plummets down to the watery wasteland.
Exarch manages to escape and instead decides to target Knuckles, faking a call where he once again poses as Sonic and asks to meet Knuckles at the Scrap Brain Zone. Knuckles reluctantly arrives and falls victims to a trap set up by Exarch, creating a new automatic shutting wall that prevents Knuckles from progressing as he's sent down through a hatch to a new area of the zone, which Knuckles discovers to be a lower part of the zone covered with red fog to make it seem like the sky has changed, which came from Exarch tampering with the cooling towers of the area.
Knuckles begins to feel a great pain in his head as a loud static noise erupts in his ears, the noise eventually disappears and Knuckles notices his surroundings are now coated in blood. Knuckles attempts to flee but is stopped by Exarch, who begins to torment him by teleporting in front and behind him in a matter of seconds. Knuckles appears to give up and falls to his knees while Exarch mocks him, calling him out as pathetic and that he expected more of a challenge. Knuckles digs through the floor and creates a small tunnel where he jumps Exarch, pouncing up from the ground and knocking Exarch off the platform and into the depths of the Scrap Brain Zone.
First Defeat[]
Exarch manages to escape once again and goes after Eggman, who has returned to his old storage unity in Marble Zone, requiring him to walk down a long downwards stairway. As Eggman begins his descend, he remembers a time where Sonic went out of control and activated a button with opened a Phantom Ruby portal in his dark form, as Eggman was in the process of electrocuting Tails to death, a bright light flashed and is all the three could remember. The walls of the area begin to turn grey and the candles go out, Eggman bangs on the side of the wall as they are suddenly coated with blood. Eggman makes it down and is relieved that nothing has caught up to him, but is visited by Exarch. Eggman attempts to team up with Exarch, but the demon angrily refuses and insults him, also revealing that he has taken control of Eggman's robots. Eggman retreats and puts his Death Egg Robot on autopilot to fight the horde of mechanical menaces and retreats as Exarch looks on.
Eggman retreats to the Death Egg and is interrupted by Tails and Knuckles in their super forms, who had absorbed the power of the Master Emerald after meeting at the Hidden Palace. Eggman flies into a rage and explains his ordeal with Exarch, which Tails and Knuckles find intriguing as their super forms begin to fade, revealing that they have also had encounters with the creature. Eggman explains who Exarch is before he bursts into the Death Egg, threatening to kill them whilst explaining his goals. As he prepares to kill them, Metal Sonic launches the Master Emerald at Exarch, knocking him away, as he had stolen the Master Emerald after they turned super and brought it to the Death Egg, allowing Tails and Knuckles to turn super as Eggman pilots his Great Eggman Robo to fight Exarch. Exarch appears to get the upper hand and starts gloating before he is caught up in an explosion by Eggman's missiles, sending him plummeting back down to Mobius as Eggman retreats to fix his mech and Tails and Knuckles go back down to ground level, stating that they will save Sonic and stop Exarch with the help of the Freedom Fighters, knowing that he won't die so easily.
Personality[]
Exarch is the prime example of an entity who has gone completely out of their way to make the lives of his enemies a living hell, he is a cold, ruthless, merciless, playful, sociopathic megalomaniac who takes his time in tormenting and inflicting pain on his enemies. Exarch is extremely barbaric, brutish, aggressive, hot-tempered, and violent, threatening to rip Tails to shreds once he finds him and threatening to kill Eggman if he were to use him as a slave. Exarch's brutality and violent behavior is coupled with his sheer lack of remorse of guilt for the pain he has inflicted on the innocent animals he has massacred, as well as his attempted victims.
Exarch is a monster by heart, he is aware of the concept of good and evil, right and wrong, and simply chooses to be bad for the sake of being a malevolent, maniacal villain. As noted by Eggman, Exarch is very arrogant and has a bit of an ego problem, dubbing himself as the "Master of Darkness", as well as calling himself a god, which is something he knows isn't true, but is instead his way of showing his superiority to everyone he believes to be below him. Exarch's narcissism has constantly proven to be his downfall for every victim he has chased down, not realizing the danger he gets himself into and only noticing at the last second before his defeat.
