| “ | See this face? This face is never going away. | „ |
| ~ Beef indirectly foreshadowing his fate as Faceless. |
| “ | I think we gotta destroy him, man. If we don't, he's just gonna keep on ruining everyone's lives. He already destroyed a Yellow Steve, and he did it because he really, really wanted to. Not because he 'had to' or anything, because that- he just, he-- That's what he wants to do! He wants to just create chaos. | „ |
| ~ Sabre describing Faceless to the Orange Leader. |
Beef, later known as Faceless, is a major antagonist in Season 2 of the 2020-21 web series Rainbow Quest, and one of the three deuteragonists (alongside Sharp and Goggles) of the 2021 prequel web series Steve Legends, both installments of Steve Cinematic Universe. In SL, he serves as one of the three deuteragonists (alongside Sharp and Goggles) of Season 1 and a major protagonist in Season 2.
He is a shapeshifting master of disguise and a former Red Steve who gained the power of an ancient evil curse that transformed him into a faceless monochrome being. As a shapeshifter, Faceless is able to take on a wide array of disguises that he uses to manipulate people with.
He is based off his original counterpart.
Personality[]
| “ | The core of who he is is to just mimic and blend in and then just cause chaos from within. | „ |
| ~ Sabre describing Faceless' true motivation. |
Formerly a kind, peace-spreading individual, Faceless became a depraved sociopath who forfeited his empathy, compassion and general integrity towards his allies and embraced his inner darkness and hunger for a longer life, becoming Faceless.
As Faceless, he is a skilled manipulator, being able to perfectly mimic a person's voice and actions. He is an intelligent and extraordinarily fast learner, as he only spent a short amount of time spectating Sabre and Rainbow Steve and quickly picked up on their personalities before adapting to their identity and character. He also displays no qualms about taking innocent lives and ruining the lives of others by disguising as them, such as what he did to Sabre by murdering a civilian and setting fires. During his 'rule' as the Yellow King, Faceless displayed his tremendous acting skills and knowledge of authority to manipulate the other Yellow Steves into believing Sabre is a criminal.
Despite originally having good intentions, Faceless has become one of the most evil characters in Rainbow Quest, nearly on par with the Darkness, as his only goal is to make others miserable and cause chaos for his own amusement, amplifying his already sociopathic traits. Sabre even comments on how evil Faceless is despite not even being part of the Darkness.
Biography[]
Background[]
Faceless was originally a Red Steve named Beef and part of an elite group of Red Steves who dedicated their lives to expanding Steve culture. However, after witnessing the death and destruction of many people he held close to his heart, Beef got rid of his identity by gaining the power of the "curse of the faceless", acquiring it from The Great Library, a place holding powerful knowledge guarded by one of his last friends, The Great Librarian/Sharp. After placing the curse on himself, Beef was transformed into Faceless, a creature able to steal the identities of others, becoming exact matches of them.
At some point, Faceless became trapped in the catacombs where his former allies were buried.
Arrival[]
Faceless was eventually freed from the catacombs when Rainbow Steve repaired the catacombs. Upon escaping, he began to follow and silently stalk FavreMySabre and Rainbow Steve until he gained the idea to utilize his shapeshifting abilities. Using his powers, he arrived at the Rainbow Hub disguised as Rainbow Steve and pretending to greet him before he began to play mind games with him, beginning with disappearing from view several times before both Faceless and Rainbow Steve faced each other.
With the two Rainbow Steves confronting each other after Sabre's breakdown, Faceless attempts to sway Sabre to his side by naturally attempting to pose as the real Rainbow Steve and make the real Rainbow Steve appear to be the impostor. Due to the confusion, Sabre enlists the help of Gerald the Pig, who helps Sabre identify Faceless by asking both Rainbow Steves questions, leading to Gerald attacking Faceless before he reverts to his true form. Faceless attacks Sabre before shapeshifting into him and leaping through the portal to the Yellow Village. Despite following him through the portal, Sabre and Rainbow Steve were too late, as in the short amount of time Faceless had spent in the Yellow Steve outpost, he had murdered a Yellow Steve and set fire to many of the tents, all while in the disguise of Sabre.
After attacking the outpost, Faceless shapeshifts into the Yellow King and orders to have Sabre arrested. Once Sabre is arrested, he is brought to the middle of the outpost and the "Yellow King" charges Sabre for the crimes and sentences him to death. While charging Sabre, the "Yellow King" refuses to acknowledge the existence of Light Steve, who should've been at the outpost to protect them. Sabre escapes and becomes a fugitive before Faceless can kill him. Sabre and Rainbow Steve realize that Faceless has been impersonating the Yellow King due to not knowing who Light Steve is. Sabre and Rainbow Steve are notified that a Yellow Steve is in trouble and hop through the yellow portal, reaching a cave where the Yellow King is being held captive in a makeshift prison made by Faceless. Upon returning to the outpost, the Yellow Steves find Faceless and rally against him, exposing him as the fraud and attacking him. Faceless transforms into a baby chicken and escapes the outpost before he can be killed.
Death[]
Sabre and Rainbow Steve manage to find their way to the Great Library where Faceless discarded his old identity to become the monster that he is now. Upon meeting the Great Librarian, they are informed that despite being able to mimic anyone he wants, Faceless is bound by the laws of physics and takes on the weaknesses of whoever he's transformed into.
With this newfound knowledge, Sabre and Rainbow Steve head to the Orange Village and discover that the Darkness has been let loose by Faceless disguised as an Orange Steve. Sabre rounds up all the Orange Steves (minus the leader) and uses Faceless' weakness against him. Knowing that since he is not a true Orange Steve, Sabre gets the others to use their creativity powers to build. When Faceless is up, he begins to panic and Rainbow Steve conjures a glass wall around him before the fraud reveals his true form. As Faceless begins manically shifting through several forms, Rainbow Steve uses his powers to destroy him, ending his anarchy for good.
