Fanny Chang (born Chang Feng (Chinese order)/ Feng Chang (Western order)) (Japanese: チャンファニー, Chan Fanī) is a minor antagonist in (an unnamed) Magical Girl anime based off of Cuphead, and the former assistant of The Devil. Fanny is also the new proclaimed leader of the Cult of Vengeful Ghosts and the wealthy ghost of a mischievous resident who once lived on the Inkwell Isles.
She is voiced by Mariya Ise in the original Japanese version and Sarah Anne Williams in the English dub. In the live-action version of the series, she's played by Mikako Tabe.
Appearance[]
Fanny is an anthropomorphic cup of Chinese descent. Fanny's skin is a light gray and made of porcelain and her head is a wide cup with some sort of liquid inside, topped with a bright pink and dark purple straw. Her face consists of dark-magenta eyes that are very close together with black pie-cut pupils (except when she's evil or insane, her eyes and black pupils, will become circular, and the pupils will form into bright pink color, and her straw will split into devil horns), and a small pink nose. Like Cuphead, she always has a determined expression in the face of danger. Fanny wears a dark purple, long-sleeve shirt, bright pink gloves, brown shorts and matching shoes with pink tips. When her soul was taken by The Devil, her ghost still has the cup as her head, but her appearance is now a ghostly pale lavender. Her shorts and legs are now replaced with a ghost tail that has a more human-like hourglass shape, her straw is now in the shape of devil horns (expressing that she went to the underworld), dark red reflecting eyeshadow, and an insane expression on her face while holding a Cheshire-cat like smile. In the center of her chest, there is a dark pink broken heart. Her gloves are also replaced with red and black gothic fingerless opera gloves. Her design also sort of resembles Evil Cuphead. Personality[]
Fanny supports a cruel, troublemaking, but secretly innocent behavior. Before King Dice was hired, she obeyed The Devil at all costs. Even though Fanny was obedient, she'd forget the rules of not being nice to people sometimes while The Devil isn't looking, or is somewhere else. She is slightly naive.
Though Fanny was naive and secretly innocent, that didn't make her a pushover or stupid, she stood up for herself, and was also a name caller. She made a bad choice of speaking to The Devil when she was caught being nice to someone when they lost a game. When this happened, she told him that everybody should be nice to someone, especially in a mean place where no one is nice at all. He disagreed, causing Fanny to snatch the Triton out of his hand and call him the b word. She got fired and soul taken by The Devil for calling him a name. Fanny also struggles with aggressive depression and tense because of not being alive anymore, and because of her kindness on the inside, she's always smiling, even when she's upset.
Background[]
Fanny Chang was born in 1921 to a wealthy family full of compulsive gamblers. Due to the vast wealth in her family, it would be no problem for her parents to bet large amounts of money for gambling, which inspired her to gamble herself when she got older. As a child, Fanny would mischievously pickpocket people for money and make graffiti on buildings and on other's desks at school. Her parents saw that she wouldn't succeed in life for being troublemaking and naive and thought she would never grow out of it. In her adult years, she decided to work as an assistant for the Devil.
Before King Dice was hired, Fanny obeyed The Devil at all costs. Until she made a bad choice of speaking to The Devil when she was caught being nice to someone when they lost a game. Nowadays, with her soul flying around, she hates King Dice and The Devil, but actually misses them on the inside, including the casino. She has a high level of jealousy against Cuphead and Mugman. She wishes she was successful, and strong like them, but she is proud of them.
