~ The Farlands Man upon glancing at the humans about to intrude on his domain. |
Joshua Stone, later known as the Farlands Man, is the opening antagonist of LoreCraft, serving as the main protagonist of The Story of Minecraft's FARLANDS... and a cameo character in The Story of Minecraft's First GOD....
He is a human tribe member who became enamoured at an early age by a mysterious force that manipulated the structure of the world known as the Perlin Noise, eventually becoming disillusioned with humanity after their ignorance of the Perlin Noise resulted in the death of his mother. Over time, Joshua would grow more and more obsessed with the Perlin Noise until its instructions lead to the creation of the Farlands and Joshua's transformation into the Farlands Man; a dangerous creature who stalks and kills anyone who intrudes on his domain.
Personality[]
As a child, Joshua had always been fascinated by the mysterious force that was the Perlin Noise and the movements of the Earth beneath his feet. Even into adulthood, this fascination persisted, resulted in him becoming an outcast and growing to resent his fellow tribe members who disregarded his concerns and interests until it was too late. The death of his mother pushed Joshua to leaving his tribe, blaming them for what happened and furthering his nature as an outcast into outright misanthropy.
Joshua desired a challenge as he fought through the mobs that attacked him as his obsession for the Perlin Noise grew. Until his downfall as the Farlands Man, Joshua's entire life was dedicated to following the orders of the Perlin Noise like a mindless slave until he lost himself to the demonic force, becoming completely enveloped in its influence and corruption until it took complete control of him, furthering his obsession into outright psychotic worship. Ultimately, Joshua's obsessive dedication and delusional worship of the the Perlin Noise finally resulted in his psyche slipping into insanity and madness, fully losing his grip on reality and what little remained of his humanity as he embraced the darkness taking control of him and sought to live away from the society that had shunned and ridiculed him.
As the Farlands Man, he is unrelenting, brutal and completely savage in his ways of stalking and killing his victims, feeling no sympathy or remorse, and almost appearing to take some amount of sadistic glee in tormenting his victims by coercing them into turning around to look at him before killing them. His fanaticism towards the Perlin Noise persisted even when his humanity was lost, still dedicated to serving it and protecting the redstone symbols has had made in its honor and the Farlands he had created under its orders until his eventual downfall.
Biography[]
Joshua Stone was born during the early days of Minecraft's creation and grew up in a tribe alongside his mother. From an early age, Joshua became fascinated with the Perlin Noise, a mysterious force that shifted and controlled the world's structure. While his tribespeople were busy hunting animals and surviving, Joshua dedicated his time to sensing the Perlin Noise shifting the ground and manipulating the Earth. Excited, he told his mother about his discovery, but was met with disapproval as his mother urged him to focus on helping their tribe survive. Joshua was undeterred and continued to focus on studying the Perlin Noise.
As he reached adulthood, Joshua's resolve hadn't wavered, as the earth continued to grow and expand with the formation of fissures and mountain peaks. As his tribespeople were busy building shelters out of dirt, Joshua focussed on his enigmatic connection with the ground and the Perlin Noise, although his fellow tribespeople didn't approve of what he was doing, urging his mother to talk sense into him. His mother urged Joshua to take up farming instead of focussing on the ground to help contribute to their tribe's survival, but despite her pleading and the connection the mother and son held, Joshua continued to ignore her advise, causing tension to grow in their relationship. As his studies of the Perlin Noise continued, Joshua could sense the Earth growing unstable and beginning to stretch, concerned as his fellow tribespeople continued to mine the Earth for its resources without realising it could swallow them up at any point.
One day, Joshua got into a heated argument with the tribe's leader as he pleaded that they move their tribe and relocate elsewhere, as he could sense that something was wrong with the Earth and that something catastrophic was brewing. The tribe leader ignored Joshua's pleas, angered by his decision to study the ground and perceived laziness while the rest of the tribespeople were hard at work every day. Joshua turned to his mother to try and convince her to leave the tribe with him, but his mother pointed out that Joshua wasn't a farmer or hunter, nor could be craft tools or build, and wouldn't be able to fend for himself if he left. Realising that he had depended on his tribe his entire life, Joshua swore that he could learn to make it on his own, but his mother disagreed and refused to come with him, causing his desperation to boil over into anger. At that very moment, the Earth cracked and fractured beneath his feet as he quickly stumbled away from the gap in the ground, watching as his mother fell to her death screaming, alongside three other tribespeople. After a few seconds, Joshua simply walked away, traumatised by what he had witnessed, desiring to move as far away from human civilisation as possible, blaming their ignorance for his mother's death.
As night broke, Joshua resolved to start crafting, punching trees to gather wood and create tools, fleeing from hostile mobs and continuing to explore, with the violence he thrusted onto the animals he slayed soothing his pain. Desiring a greater challenge, he turned to hunting mobs at night as the years went by, becoming almost nocturnal and not bothering with killing animals for food, as he craved a greater fight, resolving to eating rotten flesh. Eventually, Joshua began to hear the whispers of the Perlin Noise beckoning him to distant lands, which he decided to follow as he travelled for the next few years under the Perlin Noise's orders. Eventually, Joshua's diet of rotten flesh, anger and connection with the Perlin Noise began to chip away at his humanity and physically corrupt him.
Eventually, after many years of travelling, Joshua reached the location that the Perlin Noise had called him towards and waiting to receive orders from the Perlin Noise's voice as he built a small shelter. Over the next few years, redstone ore began to generate on the surface, which Joshua mined and experimented with, discovering that it could generate and transfer electricity. Joshua continued experimentation as he constructed different contractions with the redstone dust before realising that using it allowed for the voice of the Perlin Noise to become louder and clearer, strengthening their connection. Joshua began a new string of experiments, using redstone dust and torches to communicate messages to the Perlin Noise, which succeeded after several years, further negatively affecting Joshua's mental state as he and the Perlin Noise communicated, learning that he had a critical role to play in its plan, which he excitedly accepted.
Joshua's final task was to create a large network of redstone torches than spanned several miles, working each day to make it perfect. With his supernatural connection to the noise strengthening, it allowed him to develop supernatural abilities such as teleportation. Within a few months, his creation was complete and the Perlin Noise was pleased by his work. As Joshua stood inside a ring of redstone dust, he raised a redstone torch and commanded the Earth to rise and fracture. As the Earth obeyed, towering chunks of the land began to rise from the ground, constructing large, jagged mountains and cliffs that stretched up into the sky and even created earthquakes that shook villages thousands of miles away. When the sky became blocked by the massive stone walls, Joshua relented and ran into his new creation; the Farlands, where he could live in isolation from human civilisation.
As centuries passed, Joshua's humanity peeled away until his insanity and connection with the Perlin Noise fully corrupted and transformed him into the Farlands Man; a purely black entity that patrolled the Farlands, slaughtering thousands of mobs that spawned in his domain
As time went on, rumors began to spread across the world regarding what could've caused the earthquakes. Many adventurers set off to find out what caused the earthquakes, and while many fell to the hostile mobs that plagued the night, adventurers of the future civilisations, with their updated technology and thirst for knowledge, were more equipped to travel to the source of the earthquakes from centuries ago, and while many continued to fall, a group of three adventurers were able to travel to the Farlands unscathed. Unbeknownst to the group, the Farlands Man watched with hatred and plotted his attack. As night fell, the group had climbed to the top of the cliffs and were discussing their next moves, only to be interrupted by the Farlands Man's voice telling them to turn around. After he had repeated himself, the group turned to see the Farlands Man standing with an axe as he suddenly charged at the one of the group's members, knocking him off the edge to his death. The remaining two members drew their swords, but proved to be no match for the Farlands Man, who chopped them into pieces with his axe and retreated back into the darkness.
As decades past, numerous adventurers came to the Farlands and met the same fate, with their souls becoming trapped in the Farlands and failing to deter other adventurers from making the same mistakes they did. But on one day a century later, a young man named Tommy Stone, a direct descendent of Joshua, ventured into the Farlands, guided by a mysterious voice as he ventured into the caverns of the Farlands. The Farlands Man watched as Tommy entered his domain, surprised, and rushed down to find and kill him. As he was guided by the voice in the back of his mind, Tommy navigated the caves until he came across a pattern of redstone dust and torches. Tommy went to follow the voice's instructions to destroy it, but before he could, the Farlands Man teleported to his location. Tommy begged to be spared and dodged the Farlands Man's first swing of his axe, but the second swipe landed and killed Tommy instantly.
As his body fell, the Farlands Man looked on in horror as he saw that Tommy's last act had been to place TNT next to the redstone. The TNT exploded, destroying the redstone as the spell that bound the Perlin Noise to Farlands was broken. With the Farlands no longer under the Farlands Man's control, the cliffs and mountains that formed the Farlands collapsed and came tumbling down, presumably crushing the Farlands Man beneath them and killing him.
