~ Father Fairest's infamous quote as he reveals the abuse he had given Boyfriend to the public, also his last words. |
Frank Fairest, mostly known as Father Fairest, is one of the two main antagonists (alongside his wife) of the popular fan made mod, Friday Night Funkin': Soft. He is an ex-singer who wants his son, Benjamin (the Boyfriend of the mod) to follow in his footsteps and is domestically abusive towards him.
Appearance[]
Father Fairest has navy blue hair, and match stubble on his chin. He has glowing yellow pupils, which change to a reddish orange when angry. He wears a salmon-colored button-up shirt with blue jeans, a black belt with a gold buckle and black shoes. On his right hand, he wears a brown and gold wristwatch and a golden wedding ring whilst holding a cigarette between his middle and ring fingers.
During Week 5, he wears a Santa hat and replaces his shirt with a green jacket and dark green scarf. He also replaces his cigarette with a smoking pipe.
Personality[]
When first introduced, Father Fairest seems to be a caring parent who is concerned about the well being of his son. This is revealed to be a façade, as he is a cruel, short tempered and abusive authority figure who only wants Boyfriend to follow in his footsteps so he could live off of his success. Frank is also homophobic as he calls Pico a "street rat" and regards him as a bad influence towards his son, which makes him also be a hypocrite since he domestically abuses Benjamin while Pico genuinely loves and cares for him.
He also shows beliefs of toxic masculinity of what a "real man" is, saying that a man should be able to solve his own problems by himself. Frank also has a sadistic side, as he thrives of manipulating and belittling his own son.
He also makes deals that he has no intension on keeping if he looses; In week 1, he makes a deal with his son that if he wins in the third song, he would leave him alone. However, he shows to be completely untrustworthy when he tries to take his son home by force despite the fact that he lost.
Father Fairest is shown to be a heavy smoker, as he carries a cigar with him in week one and a pipe in week 5.
History[]
Prior to the events of the main story, Frank was a singer and adopted the alias "Father Fairest" sometime during his career. He would eventually marry a woman named Marilyn, who was also known Mother Fairest, and the two would have a son they would name Benjamin. At some unknown point in time, Father Fairest would retire from singing and wanted his son to follow in his footsteps. Benjamin did not want this, however, and both of his parents became domestically abusive towards him. Frank would even burn his neck with his cigar on multiple occasions.
Prior to Benjamin and Grace Dearest's, his best friend, sophomore year in high school, there was a school shootout. A boy named Pico N. Grounds would fight back and defend his classmates, only to instead be blamed for the shooting. In response to this, the Fairest and Dearest parents pulled their children out of public school and would instead homeschool them. Benjamin would eventually hang out with and then date Pico, who then encouraged him to run away from his abusive house life. This prompted Father Fairest to start looking for him.
Father Fairest first appears in week 1, where he finds his son, Benjamin hanging out with Pico, whom he refers to as a "Street Rat". He at first challenges his son to a rap battle and does so again after he loses the first fight. After losing again in the second rap battle, Father Fairest, having grown more angry as time went on, makes a wager with Boyfriend; If he wins the next rap battle, he'll leave him and Pico alone. Despite the latter's protests, Boyfriend takes the risk and wins. However, Father Fairest reveals that he never intended to play fair on the bet and he creepily approaches his son with means of taking him home by force. Pico quickly blocks him off and sprays paint in his face, blinding him for a long enough time for the duo to escape.
Father Fairest doesn't appear again until Week 5 on December 17, where he encounters Benjamin and Pico at the mall alongside his wife, Mother Mairest. Father Fairest, pretending as if the events of Week 1 didn't happen, again facades under his calm and friendly demeanor and challenges his son to another rap battle on the contrast that he will come home if he loses. After Benjamin is able to beat both his parents in the first fight, Father Fairest again ditches his false personality and reveals the abuse he and his wife had given him over the years to the crowd and public behind them. Instead of backing down, Boyfriend stands up and confronts his parents over their abuse and how they were never his family to begin with before starting the next song.
It is unknown what happened to Father Fairest and Mother Mairest after the third song, as they are nowhere to be seen and they do not confront Boyfriend and Pico. It can be assumed that based on the disgusted reaction the crowd had when learning of the parents' abuse given to him, their reputations are now ruined. The mod's directator confirmed that they will return sometime in the future.

Trivia[]
- Father Fairest, alongside his wife, are arguably the most hated antagonists in the mod, as well as being considered one of the most evil villains of the Friday Night Funkin' community, even when compared to Daddy Dearest and Mommy Mearest. As while they do dislike the original Boyfriend, they never go as far as to abuse their own daughter while even gaining some respect towards the protagonist, while the parents in the mod are cruel, selfish and abuse Boyfriend if they do not go with whatever they say.
- Although Daddy Dearest has done far worse than what Father Fairest has done, Daddy Dearest's actions are usually played off as typical cartoon-ish villain actions one would expect from an evil-doer, whereas Father Fairest's actions are way more realistic and relateable to the audience such as those who have abusive parents themselves, thus Father Fairest's villainy being played to be hated.
- Father Fairest is shown to have burned Boyfriend with his cigar on occasions as in some of Benjamin's dialogue portraits, there are cigar burns on his neck. This is also hinted at Father Fairest's dialogue after the first song in week 5.
- His week 1 sprites are named "Father Fresh".
- In a case of dramatic irony, he does not play fair by rules, despite his name being "Father Fairest".
- It is theorized that the Fairest couple was either booed out of the mall or Pico threatened them to leave with is gun in Week 5.
- In an interview with Metatera on youtube, Tama revealed that she had complex feelings during the making of Father Fairest's character, since he is heavily based off of what her own dad was like. She even reveals that she broke down twice.
- Father Fairest greatly contrasts Oliver, Boyfriend's non-canon father created by MizanPloz.
- Initially, Oliver looks grumpy and serious with reluctance to rap while Father Fairest looks rather kind, caring, and cool. Deep-down, Oliver is a genuinely cool, loving individual who does enjoy his time singing while Father Fairest is an abusive, cruel figure.
- Design-wise, Oliver is an original mold while Father Fairest is a Daddy Dearest palette swap. And while Oliver looks a bit extravagant and fancy, Father Fairest looks average for the most part.
- While it's made ambiguous whether Father Fairest is a human or not, Oliver is an angel and is explicitly stated as such.
- During the Week 5 in their respective mods, Father Fairest holds his wife extravagantly similar to Daddy Dearest and has a bouncer by his side. Meanwhile, Oliver sits besides his wife casually like how an average person would and has his family, Boyfriend, Hatsune Miku and Ritz the Rat by his side.
- Early Week 5 sketches of the his and his wife's sprites reveal that Father Fairest would have been looking at Mother Mairest in a lustful manner. Although not confirmed, this implies that the love he has for his wife comes from her beauty and nothing else. This shows that he objectifies his own wife for her looks.
