Sabre is the villainous main protagonist of the 2021-22 web series Twisted Rainbow, the third installment of Steve Cinematic Universe. He is played by FavreMySabre and is an alternate universe variant of his original self.
Personality[]
“ | Pain and despair walk a fine line from each other, at time blending and becoming desperation before you even notice. I know what made me into me, and I embrace that! | „ |
~ Sabre during his fight with Hypno Steve and Twisted Rainbow. |
Due to the faults of the sides of the Twisted and the Dark Guard, Sabre was put into a harmful environment where he was continuously deceived and felt like he couldn't trust anyone. It's only when he learns of his power and status as the creator of the universe with help from The First Curse that gives him confidence, along with hubris. The combination of his lucid nightmares, the discovery of the multiverse and many other versions of himself, along with his resentment towards the people who hurt him, Sabre went down the path of villainy far from his original heroic self, even growing hatred towards his original self and any Sabre who had thriving lives. Only people who show him kindness are let into his thin circle of trust.
History[]
Creation[]
After the events of Rainbow Quest, the original version of Sabre had inadvertently created a branching multiverse in the process of saving his reality from The First Curse's destruction. Every Sabre variant was cursed to suffer in every world. However, one Sabre resisted and somehow ended up floating between realities. The universe of Twisted Rainbow was created within him and was designed by the curse to be horrific and twisted.
Before Sabre's arrival, there was nothing. The world's past prior to his arrival at the beginning of the series were all fabricated, with the universe itself being created the moment Sabre came. The First Curse was destroyed in the original universe, becoming shattered and wanting to be whole again. He discovers that Time Steve had also lost himself when repairing the damage he caused. The First Curse used his powers to curse the fragment of Time, merging with it. Travelling through the multiverse, he found Sabre floating in between realities. In the shadows and disguised as Time, The First Curse helped the new Sabre.
Life with the Twisted[]
When Sabre awoke for the first time without any memories, he encountered mutated Steves known as Twisted and had to hide in an abandoned overgrown house. Hearing Origin's voice in his mind, learns that his name is Sabre. The First Curse, in hiding, gives him a clock-themed sword as a weapon to defend himself. When the Twisted set of TNT, he can only escape them by using the mysterious Time Sword to freeze time. Sabre travels for a full day until stumbling upon the remains of the Yellow Kingdom, where he meets M and Twisted Rainbow. He chased M as he ran to the remains of the Yellow Kingdom where Twisted Rainbow resided. Intrigued by Sabre, Twisted Rainbow took him in and gave him a home to keep him complacent and oblivious to his true intentions.
M didn't like Sabre and even tried dragging Sabre out of his house while he was sleeping. One day, Sabre is tasked with getting some apples, only for him to be kidnapped and interrogated by the Dark Guard. He was even assaulted by one who went against orders. The prominent one was the Elite Guard, who began alluding to Twisted Rainbow's evil nature, only for Twisted Rainbow himself to arrive and rescue Sabre along with M. Sabre asks that Twisted not kill anyone, and he reluctantly obliges. Later in the night, the Elite breaks into Sabre's new home to once again try and warn him about Rainbow. Twisted arrives before Elite can get through to him though.
Before getting kidnapped, Sabre had left his time sword behind. Twisted Rainbow held onto it and kept it, even after Sabre was rescued, making the excuse that he wanted to study it for him. Twisted Rainbow decided to make his first move by taking Sabre on a walk and tries to convince him that The Twisted weren't all that bad. He encouraged him to move closer to it in an attempt to infect him, which was stopped by M. Twisted Rainbow snapped and told M to leave.
The night after, Twisted Rainbow threatened M with punishment and Sabre overheard them. Believing that Sabre had heard too much and might betray him, he intended to kill him to keep him quiet, but the attempts were stopped by both M and the Elite Dark Guard. Elite and Sabre escaped, fighting off the Twisted Steves sent after them. Sabre realized that M had been trying to protect him from Twisted all along, feeling guilt for leaving him behind. The two sleep for another night and prepare to hike back to the Dark Guard's main camp the next morning. Shadow assures the rest of the guards that Sabre is on their side and the army prepares for their push against Twisted Rainbow.
Life with the Darkness[]
The Dark Guard visit camps and villages of normal Steves that have stayed out of the conflict. They infect the citizens to turn them into Darkness and leave their homes to burn. While Sabre is horrified, Shadow does these terrible acts as if it was second nature. Twisted Rainbow scouts out the camp to see that Sabre has fully joined them. Sabre apologizes to M for not listening to him, and stands up to Twisted Rainbow's mockery, which was considered enough for Elite to believe that he is fully loyal to the cause, despite his open disagreement towards their methods. He also keeps Sabre as he is rather than infect him with Darkness, as his own Darkness appears to be hiding somewhere else. Eventually, the Dark Guard amasses enough people to create an army of Darkness.
The night before the war begins, Sabre meets a normal Green Steve. He tries to talk with him, but he runs away in fear of him, lowering his morale further. He heads to sleep, where The First Curse communicate with him through his dreams. The First Curse had been trying to convince Sabre to find his memories, but due to being preoccupied, The First Curse does it for him. He shows Sabre glimpses of his original self. Sabre internalizes these memories. Before the First Curse reveals himself under the guise of Time Steve, Elite wakes him up as Twisted Rainbow has arrived. Sabre and Twisted Rainbow met again on the front lines, and he taunted Sabre for his fear, cowardice and dependence on others. Sabre ran off, and the two factions prepared for battle.
Sabre questions Elite on his beliefs. Elite explains that their way is a more righteous wrong and that there is no true good solution in this conflict. Sabre runs off and sees the Green Steve from before. Desperate for connection, Sabre tries to get the Green Steve to listen to him, and he reluctantly does. Shadow suddenly arrives and nonchalantly infects the Green Steve to add to the army, much to Sabre's horror. This act was the breaking point for Sabre, as he accepts help from The First Curse, who communicates to him in his head. Shadow is thrown out of the battlefield by Sabre, as he summons giant clocks over the Twisted, the Darkness and some of the Dark Guards, killing them. Shadow is able to make his way back and is genuinely worried for Sabre's well-being. He tries to reach out and tell him that he isn't acting as himself, only for Sabre to call out his and Twisted acts of evil. He throws Shadow again, far away from the conflict.
Sabre teleported himself and Twisted Rainbow back to the destroyed Rainbow Hub. Time Steve told Sabre that Twisted Rainbow needed to use the sword to open a gateway outside of their universe, and allow Sabre to leave. Twisted Rainbow was forced to oblige. Sabre, having no other use for him, prepared to kill him as revenge for ruining the world, but Twisted Rainbow was able to escape at the last moment. Sabre heads to a fabricated Time Dimension and sees Time Steve; the First Curse in disguise.
True Trust[]
Remembering the glimpses of the original universe, Sabre knows that this isn't Time, but goes along with it. The First Curse explains the creation of the multiverse and how Sabre had no life before his arrival in his universe, which exists within himself. Grateful to be saved, Sabre agrees to The First Curse's request on returning to the universe and retrieving a powerful source of energy. However, he is intercepted by Hypno Steve, who Sabre believes is Twisted Rainbow. Ignoring his taunts, Sabre returns to his universe, senses the Core and teleports there instantly. As he is about to grab it, Elite arrives, having returned there to gain more power.
He tries to stop Sabre from stealing the core due to the potential danger, but Sabre refuses to listen. Elite calls out to The Great One, who hears his call and gives Elite a boost in power. The two duel, with Elite continuing to try talking Sabre down and telling him of being controlled and corrupted. Sabre, still refusing to listen due to his resentment, prepares the final blow. Before it can be dealt with, time stops and Sabre is summoned by Origin Steve. Origin, after giving up his life source to help his version of Sabre travel back in time, is dying, but is holding on to witness the multiverse. Sabre, knowing of him, despises him and his association with his original self. Origin tries to help him calm his frustration and apologize for the hand that he was dealt, but Sabre scoffs it off. Believing that he is on top of the world due having control of his universe, he refuses to listen. Origin apologizes regardless and Sabre leaves.
The attacks collide, but Sabre wins out and Elite is flung out of the Core and back outside the Red Kingdom's ruins. His armor breaks and he powers down. Sabre prepares to finish him off, only to be shocked that the "Elite" he knew was a dark version of himself. He runs off, confusing Shadow. Sabre returns to the "Time Dimension," shocked of another him existing. The First Curse tells him that Shadow is irrelevant compared to his power, prompting him to give him the Core. Sabre is hesitant, wanting more trust. The First Curse decides to give him that trust by revealing himself and explaining his motives. Sabre then reveals that he always knew that the First Curse wasn't being open with him. Believing that Sabre was against him, changed the Time Dimension to his aesthetic and prepared for battle.
Sabre, however, was on his side. Unlike Twisted Rainbow or the Dark Guard, he was honest with him when he wanted to see trust. Sabre states that he wants not only to make the people who hurt him pay, but to make the other universes where Sabre's had good lives to suffer. The First Curse is excited to have Sabre by his side, wanting existence to suffer, rather than destroy it. Sabre gives The First Curse the Core, having earned his trust and asks where they can start.
The Crossroads[]
The First Curse absorbs the power of The Core to stabilize his limitless power, proclaiming that he never considered himself nor his powers a curse. He sends himself and Sabre to the multiverse, which he titles the Crossroads. He offers Sabre a place at his side during his conquest, but Sabre declines, wanting to settle scores back at his universe. The First Curse taking a liking to this version of Sabre gives him an extra power boost to aid him in his vengeance. The two part ways, Sabre heading back to his reality to get revenge.
Multiple parties sense Sabre's return, and Sabre can sense them. Seeing the limits of his power, Sabre decides to settle on conquering his universe by absorbing it completely. Sabre spawns in the Rainbow Hub and is greeted by Twisted Rainbow, who has fused with Hypno Steve. The two duel, Sabre noticing that Twisted had replicated his sword. Sabre decides to taunt Twisted, knowing it would anger him and make him stubborn, giving Sabre an opening to attack. It works, with Sabre teleporting behind the fusion and impaling him in through the back. Twisted Hypno tries to run but is levitated into the air. Sabre, wondering how Twisted became the monster he was, peers into his mind and witnesses his origin. He sees that Hypno was the Red Leader, who had gone insane after falling into an unstable portal and that Twisted was a corrupted Light Steve created by Professor Red, who had created both the Light and Rainbow Crystals.
Sabre laughs, believing that all that power was wasted on a pathetic person. He absorbs almost all of Twisted Hypno's power, separating the fusion. He decides to keep both of them alive to witness his victory. Suddenly, the Rainbow Hub's defenses are broken by Assistant Steve, who bursts in and shoots Sabre with a powerful laser. Twisted gives Assistant orders to stop Sabre, which he interprets as killing him. Sabre sees Assistant, becoming interested when Assistant notes that he can wield the Core's power. Sabre prepares to defend himself as Assistant fires up another laser.
Sabre deflects the laser with ease. Having seen into Twisted's mind, Sabre is aware of the Assistant and Professor Red's past. He takes pity on him, suggesting he leave. Twisted uses the last of his strength to activate Assistant's final command, as Sabre flings him and Hypno Steve out of the Rainbow Hub. He gives Assistant one last chance flee, but he is already set on going through with the final command; self-destructing. As Sabre prepares to attack him, M stands in the way. Sabre tries giving M a chance to leave as well, but he refuses. Sabre slams M into a wall, and throws multiple punches at Assistant Steve. His face peels off due to the rapid-fire attacks.
Sabre is caught up in the glee of dominating, when he senses another energy approaching. The Great One, the leader of the Darkness arrives. Surprisngly, he is able to take one of Sabre's punches, only to be thrown through a wall when Sabre puts in more power. The Great One bursts back in and the two powerhouses fight. Assistant Steve, seeing a low chance of survival, attempts to self-destruct. Still wanting the Core's power, Sabre tries to stop him, but is blocked by Shadow Sabre who is partially encased in golden energized armor. M is able to stop the self-destruct by activating Professor Red's protocols to give the Assistant freedom.
Sabre takes this opportunity to throw Shadow into a wall, reach Assistant Steve and absorb the Core's power from him. Shadow tries to stop him, but is intercepted by The Great One. Shadow urges M to take Assistant Steve and run. While M and Assistant Steve leave, Shadow prepares to take on Sabre and The Great One. The two punch Shadow into a wall together before continuing to fight each other. Shadow gets back up and tosses Sabre into a wall while he fights The Great One, angry that he refused to let him help. The Great One reveals that Shadow would never be strong enough to fight Sabre and that he would only be a distraction. Ironically, this causes Sabre to impale The Great One from behind, absorbing him as well.
With the Core and all the Darkness inside him, Sabre unlocks his full power and strips Shadow of his golden energy armor. Wanting to toy with one of the people who tormented him, Sabre teleports himself and Shadow to a lake and asks him to look at himself in the reflection. Unaware that he was Sabre's darkness up until this point, Shadow is horrified of the revelation. Shadow tries to convince Sabre not to destroy the universe and all the innocent people within it, but Sabre calls out Shadow's hypocrisy due to him turning Steves into Darkness. Sabre doesn't care that Shadow has changed and goes through with the destruction of the universe. Shadow, M, Assistant Steve, Twisted Rainbow, Hypno Steve and every other remaining Steve civilization are all engulfed in white light as the universe fades away. Even Sabre himself is destroyed.
