Garvey Leonard Write, born Garren Shaun Covey, is the main antagonist of the 2023 Five Nights at Freddy's fangame > Dormitabis Remastered.

Garvey was a janitor at Fredbear's Family Diner who believed that children should have respect to others and their surroundings and deserve a safe place to have fun in. This led him to begin murdering children who he believed deserved it, stuffing them into the animatronics with their souls possessing them. After realizing the consequences of his actions, he attempted to repair everything by freeing the souls of his victims, leading to him getting trapped in Springtrap and then being burnt to a permanent death in the Fazbear's Fright fire. He would then become a highly distorted version of Springtrap after manifesting into purgatory, wishing to use John to come back to the real world.

Biography[]

Garvey was born on September 26th, 1965 under the name Garren Shaun Covey. He had a normal life, until his parents were killed in a car crash.

Due to this, Garvey resided in an orphanage for most of his life until he was adopted by Alex Write, the biological father of John Write and Peter Write, into the Write Family. Garvey became the middle child of the three. On the day of his adoption, his siblings and his father gave him gifts for his birthday. Alex gave him a Fredbear's Family Diner branded tape recorder, which Garvey would use for many years to vent his thoughts, Peter gave him pocket change, and John gave him a stuffed bear plush which Garvey was confused but thankful for.

At some point, Garvey would get a job as a janitor at Fredbear's Family Diner, though he wished to be a performer in one of the suits. Garvey's first kill was when he witnessed John being bullied by a boy named Tom. He mutilated the boy to death, leading to the creation of Havoc Puppet.

During The Bite of '83, Garvey witnessed his brother being shoved into Fredbear's mouth and the animatronic would chomp down on his head, leaving him severely injured. This would enrage Garvey, and after recording a tape about the event he would don the Spring Bonnie suit and resort to murdering the culprits of the bite, Ted, Jake, and Jack. They were mutilated and stuffed into the animatronics. Garvey's adoptive father, Alex would be arrested for the murders and other incidents at Freddy's. Three years later, Garvey would murder even more children.

In 1987, Garvey began working with Jeremy Fitzgerald and Fritz Smith. He would kill even more children, and tampered with the Mangle to bite down on Jeremy's head to kill him. Fritz ended up finding the corpses of Garvey's victims, and Garvey stuffed Fritz into the Cakebear suit and threw him into the crawlspace, where he died of a spring lock failure.

The missing victims were being investigated which pressured Garvey as Peter was also investigating them. In 1993, Peter and another child would be killed by the animatronics possessed by Garvey's victims. Garvey would be sorrowful of his brother's disappearance and knew that the authorities would be coming after him. In one last attempt to redeem himself and fix everything he's done, he tracked down the animatronics possessed by the souls of his victims and destroyed them, freeing them at the cost of his own life.

He left behind a message to John to track him down in case he comes back as a completely different being.

Thirty years later, Garvey, now known as Springtrap, would be salvaged as the main attraction of Fazbear's Fright, a horror attraction based on his crimes and the incidents at Freddy's. John would end up working there, and burn down the location, killing both him and Springtrap. Both of them would wake up in purgatory along with the rest of Garvey's victims and Peter.

On John's tenth night at purgatory, Springtrap, now a distorted mess with limbs in the wrong positions, would break into John's layer of purgatory and begin begging John to let him possess his body and come back to the real world. After a long confrontation with John preventing Garvey from getting what he wanted, Garvey was banished to hell.

Trivia[]

In sharp contrast to his original 2018 counterpart, Garvey is one of the more sympathetic incarnations of William Afton, starting as a well-intentioned extremist rather than a pure evil monster.
Garvey's original counterpart was a very controversial character in the Five Nights at Freddy's community due to being a rapist and a pedophile, but the game was remastered and these traits of his were removed, and his entire character was rewritten.
