Gaston is a major character from the "Disney Princesses but they're Villains" series of songs by British musical artist Lydia the Bard. He is an adaptation of the character from the 1991 animated Disney film Beauty and the Beast, serving as the main antagonist of Belle's arc of the series.
Biography[]
Gaston was a hunter living in a town in the French countryside. He was admired and respected by many of the townsfolk for his charm and charisma. Though he could have almost any woman he wanted, he set his sights on Belle, deeming her the most beautiful woman in town and therefore the only one worthy of becoming his wife. Gaston made many attempts to court Belle, though she was often turned off by his brashness, arrogance, and pushy nature, as well as her believing herself superior to him in regards to their intellect. Even as Gaston's attempts became more forceful and aggressive, the town revered him as a hero and refused to condemn his actions, leading Belle to begin plotting revenge on him and the townsfolk.
One day, Belle's father Maurice is captured by a monstrous Beast in a castle outside of town. Belle goes to find him, infuriated that yet another person would challenge her and her family. She offers herself to the Beast in exchange for him releasing her father, to which he agrees. The Beast needs to find true love to break the curse placed upon him, and hopes to do so with Belle. As Belle is in the castle manipulating the Beast and his servants, Maurice goes back to town to seek help from the townsfolk.
Gaston leads a mob to the castle to slay the Beast and claim Belle for himself, but instead finds that Belle has used dark magic and cunning to transform the Beast fully, turning him into a feral monster that obeys her commands. She goes out to confront Gaston with the beast in tow, showing him and the townsfolk the forceful attempts he made on her using the Beast's magic mirror. When Gaston tries to silence her, she sics the Beast on him, clawing him. As the mob flees, Gaston holds back the Beast, but loses an eye and crawls away defeated.
Belle secludes herself in the castle. The town brands her as a witch and makes several attacks on the castle, with one successfully capturing the Beast. Belle, meanwhile, has become more and more consumed by dark magic, including discovering a way to summon more monsters to her aid.
Gaston and the mob attempt another raid on the castle, and Belle comes out to meet them, now fully consumed by the darkness and witchcraft. She sics her monsters on the town, killing many and transforming them also into monsters. Gaston attempts to stab her in the back, but Belle claws his neck open, killing him.
Personality[]
Gaston is a vain, egotistical, and brutish man who only is concerned with his own image and accomplishments. He is willing to stoop to incredibly low and wicked means to get what he believes is owed to him. Despite this, he has a charisma and cunning that allows him to sway many to his side and remain in their good graces. He is shown to be crafty and devious, and seems to take a sadistic pleasure from getting revenge. His overconfidence also leads him to getting caught off-guard, and his boastful arrogance also leads to a fragile ego.
