“ | NO!! I will not listen to you. Matter of fact, I won't listen to ANYBODY!... Smith, you've taken EVERYTHING I wanted away from me! I would have won! ~ Geminald's breakdown as he prepares to kill Smith Jones. |
Geminald, also known by his alias Engulf, is the main antagonist of the Rememberence franchise.
He serves as the overarching antagonist of the prequel ARG Repressed Memories, one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside Frank) of Rememberence, and one of the two posthumous overarching antagonists (alongside THOUGHT) of the tie-in sequel novel Forgotten Troubles. He is set to return as one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Star Bart) of the next novel OVERCOME, specifically being the main antagonist of the Purgatory sections.
He is a homicidal alien who once sought out true, complete immortality. Having killed all of his cult members who helped it in its search, Geminald was given the Fog. The Fog grew a sincere attachment to him, and knowing its capabilities, Geminald used the Fog for his own gain. His actions are one of the reasons why Slenderman spiralled into madness in the first place, as well as setting the stage for multiple events of the series.
He is voiced by Powermonger2003, who also voices HABIT and Slenderman in the same series.
History[]
Backstory[]
Geminald's origins are inflicted on Smith through black-and-white point of view flashbacks, with one of them being in full colour.
When he was a "human", Geminald was a cultist who was obsessed with obtaining true and complete immortality, and even organized an entire cult named the Burrows in order to retrieve it. Later on, Geminald's obsession would be taken far enough that he would kill all of the cultists around it, just to obtain their life, but to no avail.
Upon retrieving the Fog as his punishment, Geminald learned enough about it to start his end goals. Embracing his curse, Geminald would walk out of the building to begin his mass omnicide spree.
Using the Fog for his own gain, Geminald would slaughter, corrupt, and destroy up to five worlds that laid in his wake before settling down onto Homerealm 62. During which, he used his arm to destroy and corrupt everything that was in his sight. Upon finding Lightbringer, the king and saviour of Homerealm 62, Geminald uttered the words "THERE YOU ARE..." before killing Lightbringer. Upset over this, the Protector angrily yet politely asks Geminald to stop what he is doing, claiming that doing all this will not help him reduce back to his original state, but to no avail, the Protector had to engage in battle.
The Acquaintance then quickly looks back to see another inhabitant dead, and in front of him, was Geminald's true form. Given the Acquaintance's reaction to it, it can only be presumed that it was a horrifying sight. Without backing down, the Protector seals away Geminald's true body in a giant glass cube. With his patience thinning, Geminald quickly projects his arm out, only for it to slam on his arm and, thanks to the heavy shaking, pops his old eye out. Commanding the Fog to pick him up, Geminald uses his eye to transport his body far away so it cannot be destroyed.
Following the events, Geminald would later settle down on Earth and inhabit Desire Lake Forest, where he would go on to decapitate Jeremy's two children and then to choke his wife to death before throwing her body in a well, later going on to corrupt the other inhabitants, and in turn, transforming them into horrific monsters.
Season 9[]
While Geminald doesn't make any appearances in Season 9, it is visibly shown that Slenderman was horrifically traumatized thanks to Geminald's actions, specifically what will happen next. As Slenderman could remember when he walked into the Desire Lake Forest, Geminald would send out the Fog, unsettingly threatening it if the Fog failed to comply. On the orders of Geminald, the Fog did so, trapping the Slenderman and having Geminald lend a hand in Slenderman's downfall.
In one case, it was revealed that Geminald continuously revived Jason just so he can see him suffer more.
Season 11[]
Geminald makes a few more appearances in Season 11, where during one episode with THOUGHT's pursuit of Smith's crew, Geminald helps the former by creating a falling log that would trap Jason Hemwig's leg, leading to THOUGHT devouring it, and forcing Smith to carry his friend throughout the chase.
As the Fog blocks off the open gates to exit, Geminald appears right in front of the crew and THOUGHT, blasting all but Smith away from the area. Geminald, being blocked off by the Fog, extends his arm towards Smith and captures him, with his eye poking out of the Fog, and after uttering the words "OBSERVE", said backstory is revealed in his perspective.
After finishing the flashback, Geminald's grasp tightens, and Geminald attempts to finish off and corrupt Smith. Fortunately, Slenderman distracts the abomination in an attempt to rescue Smith. This ultimately works, and Geminald quickly gives up on Smith to fight off Slenderman, giving Smith the chance to escape.
In the remainder of the next episodes, a breeze closes the gates of Desire Lake Forest, reducing Geminald to a singular, yellow eye. Focusing back on Smith, he tracks him, the crew, and Slenderman down, and a chase commences throughout the house, which Geminald seems to expand with every move he makes, opening new hiding spots and new warped rooms. At the end of the chase, Slenderman wraps the eyeball around one of his tentacles and, with enough force, chucks the eye right through the wall, to which everything apart from the main house collapses, thus turning everything into a distorted wasteland thanks to Geminald being hurt.
In the finale of Season 11, Smith obtains his newfound powers and restores the world back to normal, only having one or two more things left to do. In the background, Geminald's eye form observes from a distance, with Geminald's other appearances edging closer by the second.
Season 12[]
Geminald is mostly absent for Season 12, with the only main threats being Hoody & Masky so far. However, in episode 7 after getting them to change and aid in stopping Geminald head-on, they come across Geminald's Cuboid Prison, which appears to have layed dormant and untouched. Eventually, THOUGHT ambushes the group before accidentally throwing his knife into the Cuboid Prison, causing the ground to rumble, and causing the tendrils to grab THOUGHT, which seemingly killed him. After emerging, Geminald, now in his monstrous true form, battles the group head-on. Suddenly, THOUGHT re-emerges as a part of Geminald and attempts to bring down the duo, focusing more or less on their destruction, and not Earth's. Eventually, using gravity, Geminald traps one of Jason's legs, preparing to kill him off a second time before Susan (now with part of the Sanctum within her) fights the duo, with Geminald tearing reality apart in a last attempt to succeed after being bested.
With no time to waste in episode 8, Smith, Hoody and Masky devise a plan to enter the beast's mind, with Smith having the reluctant idea to tear open a portal in the fabric of reality to reach it. Doing so, Smith enters the beast's mind, ready to find him. Eventually, after aimlessly walking around the space, he's greeted by Geminald's core, who proceeds to explain his plans on tearing the universe to shreds, and leave nothing behind. Smith, as a distraction technique, asks Geminald to show him what exactly happened to the Fog, which Geminald does with glee.
As shown, whatever Geminald did to the Fog wasn't good, as Smith saw a pitch-black, gargantuan figure who had been reduced to a cataconic mindless beast, moaning about how much pain it is in. The only hint that Smith was given was that it (the Fog) had failed Geminald. Moments later, Smith asks Geminald about his time with THOUGHT, which Geminald responds by showing a flashback of the two arguing, claiming THOUGHT to be a nuisance. Later on, when Smith tries to escape, Geminald tries to manipulate Smith Jones into saving his friends, who THOUGHT is currently battling. After tauntingly asking Smith if he was scared, the hero responds by asking why he should be scared if Geminald is but a defenseless core deep down. Enraged by this, Geminald refuses to listen to Smith, and instead attempts to kill him in the climax, summoning his soul to beat him, which leaps towards Smith and ends the episode.
In episode 9, Smith, despite being bloodied and heavily injured from Geminald's soul, gets the upper hand during battle by recalling the memories of his friends to assist him, and eventually, after restraining the soul, he engraves the sword into the Core, causing Geminald's core to erupt in light, which shines out of him. Eventually, Geminald lets out a groaning roar, and disintergrates entirely alongside THOUGHT, who is in extreme panic as the two meet their end. Eventually, the Lightbringer, the true identity of the Sanctum, asks everyone for one single wish each, with Smith's final wish being to fix this world of all the damage. Upon doing so, everyone on Earth is at peace once again.
Appearance[]
When he was first introduced, Geminald's body was completely shrouded in the Fog. However, some body parts could be visibly seen, which includes a decapitated dark greyish-black arm with four clawed fingers and a singular red eye with a black pupil. Whilst unknown how he could speak at first, one can only presume that the arm could speak through someone's mind. Though this isn't exactly the case, as Geminald was fully capable on speaking on his own.
Whenever the gates of Desire Lake Forest are closed however, Geminald is instead reduced from a hand, to a small yellow glowing eye with a single white pupil.
His soul form, despite being pitch black, appears to be rather tall, towering over the other Rememberence antagonists at 65 feet in height. The yellow eye seems to be actings like his face, and on top of his head lies a spiked glowing red "halo". A devil's tail can also be seen briefly too.
When trapped in his Cuboid Prison, however, Geminald's tendrils pierce through in a last-effort attempt to break out.
Upon reaching his true form, Geminald becomes much more monstrous in appearance with an unidentified height (given that it's seen from afar, however, it is only presumed that it is far bigger than his soul form). He has light blue skin, three blue eyes with lighter pupils, with the middle one having a pentagram symbol, and four horns, two that curve downwards. It has a skeletal nose, sharp fangs, and a damaged jaw that appears to have "cracks" on it. He also has a sharp collar around his neck, as well as a bulky build with a "II" symbol engraved in his stomach, pointy shoulders, and a black liquid is covering his arms in the same dark grey substance.
Its lower half is shown to be skeletal, with nothing but a single spine which turns into a spiked tail-like appendage at the end. His ribcage is bent, and an extra set of skeletal arms with dark grey hands appear behind his back.
Finally, his core form, which is considerably just as strong as his true form, albeit weaker in defense, is a pitch black giant orb that fades into different tones of grey, with a white light hovering in the center. When enraged, the orb shifts from grey tones to deep red tones, and the light changed to a glowing red.
Personality[]
Geminald is a sadistic, homicidal and destructive alien who would do anything in his power to reach complete immortality when he was "human". Because of his obsession with immortality, Geminald would do anything he could to obtain it, even if it meant killing his cult members by draining their lives.
He also seems to be manipulative, as upon hearing about what the Fog's capabilities are, Geminald seemed delighted, but only because he could use the Fog for a mass omnicide spree that we would later see him do, and upon gaining his long-awaited immortality from the Fog, Geminald became a destructive being.
From what we can see during his interractions, Geminald is quite hostile towards anyone, and used Slenderman as nothing more than a valuable pawn in order for him to cause more havoc for his sadistic glee. Geminald also appears to be quite vengeful, having destroyed his old homeworld and having killed Lightbringer due to what justifiably happened to him.
In core form, Geminald appears to be rather soft-spoken at first, and mostly remains like this to accompany his manipulative behaviour, encouraging Smith Jones to save his friends from THOUGHT, who has control over his lower half, all so that Geminald can kill Smith himself. When enraged, however, Geminald goes from soft-spoken to outright aggressive, distorting everything around him. As shown with his interractions with THOUGHT, he can be rather bossy, demanding that THOUGHT lets him do most of the work instead.
Trivia[]
- His real name may have been Geminald, and there were multiple things to support this.
- Before Slenderman began his massacre of the Twisted Gaze remaining members, he was about to tell everyone Geminald's name, but was quickly halted by Jason, who assured him that everything was fine.
- A victim, right before being killed off by Slenderman (who had zero trust in him), was about to tell everyone that Geminald's real name was Geminald.
- Susan had a theory that his real name may have been Geminald.
- Later on, all of this would be proven true.
- Geminald's silhouette, hand, eye, Cuboid Prison and true form seems to be inspired by that of Niles from the SMG4 series.
- And on the subject of it, Geminald shares identical traits and goals as Niles does too.
- While everyone in the Slenderverse calls Geminald a male, it isn't specifically confirmed if he is a male or not.
- When the Protector angrily states that Geminald is doing nothing to get him reverted to his original state, it is bringing up the curse that Geminald had exactly bared with him, with the curse being the Fog. Geminald, however, knew exactly what he was doing, and decided to intentionally ignore the Protector as stated by the creator.
- Out of all the antagonists of Rememberence, Geminald is the largest in terms of size, with his true form towering over the other antagonists of the series. The only ones that could rival him is Bowserbub, who stands about 58 feet tall. The Fog places in at third place at 50 feet tall.
- Geminald is considerably one of the more powerful beings within Rememberence.
- His real name is a play on the word and zodiac "Gemini", which is ironically Geminald's zodiac as confirmed by the creator.
- Geminald currently has the most forms in Rememberence, tallying six forms in total.
- As stated by the creator, Geminald chose a new form that he is proud of, as he no longer needs his "weak, old form", reffering to his silhouette's old appearance, which would end up becoming his soul form.
