Biography[]
Neon Genesis Evangelion In 5 Minutes[]
During the opening scene, Shinji Ikari wonders why he reached out to him after his abandonment 14 years ago. However, Shinji is recruited by Misato and brought to NERV Headquarters. At NERV, it is revealed that Gendo was the one who ordered Misato to retrieve Shinji. The reason for doing so is because a giant monster is attacking Tokyo-3, and Shinji is the only one who can pilot the Evangelion Unit 1. Shinji angrily refuses, and Gendo attempts to use another’s pilot. Unfortunately for him, the other pilot is massively injured, which means that Shinji has no other choice but to pilot the robot. Shinji and the Angel engage in a fight, but the Eva 1 Unit goes berserk, much to Gendo’s pleasure.
After the first Angel is killed, Gendo calls Misato, and tells her that a new pilot has arrived.
Later, an Angel in the guise of an Evangelion Unit named Bardiel attacks Tokyo-3. Shinji battles it, whilst trying to get conformation that one of his friends isn’t inside. Bardiel absolutely decimates Shinji’s mech suit, much to Gendo’s dismay. Gendo decides to engage the dummy plug auto pilot system, which make Eva Unit 1 go berserk once more. Bardiel gets destroyed, and the pilot inside (which is revealed to be Tori) is brutally killed. Shinji, now disheartened and traumatised by the death of his best friend, ultimately quits his position as an Evangelion pilot. Gendo is disappointed by this, as he hopes he never sees him again.
Shinji notices that the pilot of Eva Unit 2 is killed by Zeruel, so he reinstates his position of Eva Unit 1 pilot, much to Gendo’s confusion. However, Unit 1 runs out of battery, and is almost destroyed by Zeruel. Unit 1 then goes fully sentient, and devours Zeruel’s insides. Gendo seems to enjoy this, which implies that he made Eva 1 sentient.
Gendo is later seen in the final scene with his wife, Rei. They congratulate Shinji for saving humanity.
