Gigan is one of two main antagonists (alongside King Ghidorah) of Godzilla Jr: The Return of King Ghidorah by DuskxPhoenix.

Serving as the right-hand of King Ghidorah and the vanguard of the Xilliens, Gigan is a sadistic and vicious yet loyal seagan that gleefully follows any order given to him. He also acts as one of two archenemies of Showa and Anguirus due to his previous invasion attempt with Ghidorah.

Biography[]

Background

Deep within the Black Hole Nebula on an unknown planet, Gigan was born to a pair of seagans named Milagan and Hagan. Even as a child, he showed signs of becoming a monster, as he frequently bullied the weaker kids around him. At the age of ten, he lost his father after he was killed by a male seagan wanting to mate with Milagan. Rather than mourning Hagan, the young Gigan became fixated on the violent struggle he saw the males went through and wished to learn how to copy it. Instead of just antagonizing the weaker seagans, he began intentionally provoking them to fight for the purpose of gaining battle experience.

Personality[]

Fueled by a nigh-insatiable bloodlust, Gigan is a sadistic and cruel being who takes childish glee in destroying, fighting, and killing things. His preferred method of bringing down targets involve viciously assaulting them with his bladed weapons and subjecting them to torture after they've been rendered too weak to continue fighting. He also enjoys taunting those at his mercy, often cracking jokes at their expense, insulting them, or making mocking gestures toward them.

Although not to same extent as King Ghidorah, Gigan can also be arrogant, as he considers anyone who struggles to fight him weak.

Appearance[]

(Note: These descriptions don't necessarily reflect the infobox's images.)

As shown through flashbacks, Gigan was once an entirely organic therizinosaur-like monster known as a seagan, with dark green skin and a golden underbelly. His head sported a sharp, white crest, a grey beak filled with flat teeth, and a single red eye. Three large golden sails run down his back and white spikes go down his tail. His arms end with three long claws, and a single hook-like toe claw on his feet.

After his body was augmented with mechanical parts, his golden underbelly is replaced with metallic, dark blue plating and a circular buzzsaw weapon embedded into his abdomen. His arms and toes are fitted with steel hooks, and his beak replaced with metal and given two mandibles at the corner of his cheeks. His eye is encased under a red cybernetic visor that flashes white before he fires his gigarium cluster or when expressing strong emotions such as anger, fear, or happiness.

Following the near-complete destruction of his organic parts, what remained of Gigan's body was overhauled. His entire body now consists of dark blue plating with wire-like structures running throughout it. His beak is now filled with sharp teeth and given longer, more serrated mandibles on the sides—making him look as though he's wearing a permanent smirk. The sails on his back are now dark red, and the spines on his tail are more jagged. Instead of maintaining his hammer hands, Gigan was outfitted with silver double-pronged chainsaws.

Powers/Abilities[]

Natural abilities

  • Intimidation: Due to a combination of his infamously brutal nature, role as King Ghidorah's right-hand, and appearance, many kaiju may be hesitant or downright afraid to face him.
  • Longevity: As a seagan, he has a naturally long lifespan that allows him to live thousands of years.
  • High durability:
  • Oxygen independence: Since Gigan originated from a planet with no oxygen, he functions entirely without it. This trait allows him to freely travel through outer space without worries of suffocating and suffer little injury from Destroyah's micro-oxygen beams since the attack breaks down the oxygen atoms inside of creatures. However, it is implied he does have a need to breathe an unknown substance due to being shown gasping as he was strangled by Destroyah and having a fear of drowning.
  • Tail: While he is rarely shown using his tail in battle prior to becoming Modified Gigan, it was powerful enough to destroy many buildings with just one swing.
  • Agility: He is one of the fastest monsters in the entire story, easily outmaneuvering nearly every opponent he faces.
  • Intelligence:
  • High endurance: Despite almost always being on the move, Gigan rarely tires out, even during a grueling battle. However, he was shown stopping on Earth's moon to rest after traveling non-stop for months, showing that he is not inexhaustible.

Cybernetic additions

  • Hammer hands: Each of his arms end with a powerful metallic, sickle-like claw, granting them the ability to effortlessly slash through all building materials and even most kaiju flesh. The latter's ability was best showcased while battling Showa as several hits from the Hammer Hands quickly broke through his nigh-impenetrable scales and left him with permanent scars.
  • Rotating cutter: His most infamous ability lies in the buzzsaw embedded into his abdominal region. When activated, it easily shreds buildings and even the most powerful monster hides apart. Even when not in active use, he can utilize the buzzsaw to knock over opponents while flying.
  • Gigarium cluster: His visor can shoot a flaming hot blast of energy that splits off into multiple bullets before exploding. Because of its ability to generate dozens of explosions at once, just one blast can raze an entire city and harm most monsters. In particular, due to the latter's weakness to extreme temperatures, constant use of the Gigarium clusters severely injured Destroyah.
  • Flight: By using jet engines hidden within his feet, Gigan can achieve speeds of up to mach 10, making him one of the fastest monsters while flying. When combined with his agility, this ability allows for him to effortlessly dodge almost any attack that comes him way. He can also use his rotating cutter to knock opponents off their feet or slice into their flesh, as seen when he was constantly knocking Showa to the ground by ramming into him.
  • 360 limb rotation: His hammer hands and bloody chainsaws can spin 360 degrees without breaking off. With this range in rotation, it allows him to position his arms in ways to batter his opponents more easily. It also means simply tearing off his weapons is next to impossible, as shown when Godzilla Jr. attempted to rip off his hammer hands but failed.
  • Hooking Anchors: From the sides of his hammer hands, he can shoot out a pair of grappling hooks. He primarily uses it to restrain and pull enemies right into his buzzsaw, as seen when he successfully trapped Mothra within them and pulled her into the rotating cutter, mutilating her abdomen. However, as lethal as they can be, the hooking anchors can be easily destroyed through breath attacks, and in the case of his attempt to use them on Destroyah, snap from pulling too heavy of a target.

Modified form

  • Bloody chainsaws: After his body was almost completely destroyed by Destroyah, his hammer hands were replaced with double-pronged chainsaws. These replacements are shown to be even more powerful than the hammer hands as just a few hits from it nearly led Godzilla Jr. to bleed to death. He can also propel himself across the ground at horrifically fast speeds with them.
  • Bladed slicers: Hidden under a compartment within his chest plating, he can fire a ninja star projectile. Once lodged into a monster's skin, it will act in a similar manner to his rotating cutter—lacerating their flesh by rapidly spinning.
  • Gigarium breath: After his visor was broken, he began channeling the gigarium cluster into a flamethrower-like breath attack. Although not quite as destructive as the original because it doesn't create multiple explosions at the same time, it was powerful enough to burn through Anguirus's carapace and debilitate Godzilla Jr. and Showa.
  • Prehensive tail: In a similar vein to Destroyah, albeit to a lesser extent, Gigan can use the pronged tips of his tail to impale and drag opponents around. While battling Godzilla Jr., he also used it to steady himself after being thrown.
  • Self-sustenance: Since he no longer has organic parts, he functions without the need to breathe in any compacity, eat, or even rest.

Weaknesses[]

  • Cowardice: Other than his love of violence, his most infamous trait is his often-cowardly nature. The moment a battle doesn't go his way, Gigan will attempt to flee.
  • Arrogance:
  • Water:
  • Recklessness: While fighting, he often gets so caught up in the moment that he fails to think logically. An example of this recklessness includes when he failed to notice Destroyah's chest glowing as he was busy hacking away at the kaiju, nearly leading to the former's death as he had no chance to escape from the ensuing beam.

Quotes[]

King Ghidorah: Gigan! Get over here!

Gigan: Get away from me!
(The cybernetic kaiju shouts as he swats at a swarm of giant praying mantises. His visor glows white before firing a gigarium cluster at them. In an instant, the insect horde is incinerated. Gigan whips his head around and cheerfully blurts out,) Yeah?
King Ghidorah: You idiot! (The golden dragon yells while his rightmost head spews a lightning bolt at Gigan's feet.) You killed some of my minions! I needed them for a mission!
Gigan: (As the cyborg jumps back, he replies,) I hate bugs! They're creepy and like to swarm you!
King Ghidorah: Whatever… (King Ghidorah sighs in frustration.) I guess I'll find something else to send with you.
Gigan: Wait, you have something for me to do?! (Gigan asks, slightly wagging his tail in excitement.)
King Ghidorah: There’s been something going on; dozens of this worthless planet’s kaiju are dying off. I can’t have that when I want to conquer this puny world! My order is simple, locate whoever or whatever is causing this and bring them back to me!
Gigan: Dead or barely clinging onto life? (Gigan asks, the edges of his metallic beak curling upwards to indicate a smile.)
King Ghidorah: It doesn’t matter; I just want to see who’s making my plans more difficult!

~ King Ghidorah commanding Gigan to discover the cause of some of his minions' deaths.
