Glitchtrap is the main antagonist of the Five Nights at Freddy's fanfiction Mike's New Ghostly Family, by Archcommander-Tenebros.

He is one of the many lingering fragments of William Afton's soul, created when Fazbear Entertainment scanned Springtrap's circuit boards to obtain the data needed for their VR game called "Freddy Fazbear Virtual Experience", the Remnant on animatronic that possessed Afton's soul projecting its traces into the game, creating a malevolent supernatural computer virus-like entity that started plaguing the game.

Unlike the other Glitchtraps, who were destroyed by the Nightmares, this Glitchtrap managed to survive and evade his kin's fate by possessing one lone beta tester before the demons could perform their ritual. Nowadays, he serves as a primary threat to the Schmidt family, with Mike Schmidt and the ghosts determined to put an end to his malevolent plans before he could bring harm onto everyone.

Personality[]

Being a fragment of William Afton's soul, sharing all of his originator's personality and memories up until his final death in Henry's trap pizzeria, Glitchtrap is a malicious being that seeks only to escape through any hapless soul that would stumble upon his digital domain and continue to spread death and suffering in the real world. Much like original Afton, Glitchtrap is a cruel, sociopathic being that cares only about himself and would be willing to treat anyone like a tool for its means, driving Jeremy to suicide with his attempt to corrupt and take control of him and using his host Vanny as nothing more but a tool to be used to advance his sinister agenda. Contrasting Afton's deteriorated mental state and mindless brutality he had when he became Springtrap, Glitchtrap has managed to retain his sanity and intelligence, capable of forming a truly decent escape plan with several backups in case the primary plan would've failed.

History[]

Glitchtrap's backstory is not too dissimilar to all other Glitchtraps: he came into existence when Fazbear Entertainment scanned Springtrap's circuit boards to obtain the data for their VR game, with the traces of Remnant on animatronic's circuits bringing lingering fragments of Afton's soul to their new life as a paranormal computer virus. Upon learning of his new predicament, he decided to escape by trying to possess Jeremy, one of the beta testers, and merge with his soul, but Jeremy was able to resist long enough to commit suicide by slicing off his own face with a guillotine paper slicer. Afterwards, Glitchtrap was forced to retreat into the video game, and his escape attempt alerted the Tape Girl to his presence, recording all her findings on tapes and hiding them in one hidden corner of the game. Glitchtrap ended up possessing the tapes, providing himself with protection against the developers' attempts to delete him; however, when the Tape Girl noticed, she separated the tapes, splitting them across the game.

Eventually, Fazbear Entertainment mass-produced their games, duplicating Glitchtrap across the game's many copies. While Mike Schmidt and his ghost children were able to defeat their Glitchtrap and allowed Nightmare and his clan to destroy all other Glitchtrap copies, one instance of Glitchtrap had managed to escape, possessing his game copy's respective beta tester and merging with her soul, slowly breaking down all of her mental defenses and eventually reducing her to nothing more but a willless slave bound to follow his will.

When Nightmare was remaking Fazbear Entertainment's VR game, implementing failsafes to prevent Glitchtrap's return, he also put in a secret that would serve as a clue to identity of Glitchtrap's victim. Once the Schmidt family discovered the secret in Nightmare's game, the clue turned out to be a white rabbit mask that played the voice messages of Glitchtrap's possession victim, revealing her voice and thus, allowing them to identify her should they ever find her.

As Fazbear Entertainment planned to release their new "Fazbear Funtime Service" program, Glitchtrap controlled his victim into hacking the Special Delivery animatronics, introducing malevolent code into their programming that would drive them into destroying property and murdering people. A Toy Bonnie animatronic Mike Schmidt purchased from Fazbear Entertainment as a free offer ended up displaying aggressive behavior added by Glitchtrap and his victim, destroying property and even trying to kill Mike, breaking his arm and leg before being broken beyond repair. However, ghost children would eventually learn about Glitchtrap and his victim's tampering with an animatronic's programming, thanks to their friend Melody helping them by scanning Toy Bonnie's programming chips.

After this discovery, Mike Schmidt decided to join Fazbear Entertainment as a head of their Special Delivery program's development, trying to make sure that no other animatronic would hurt anyone like Toy Bonnie did with him. When Glitchtrap, along with Vanny, saw the news on TV, with Mike Schmidt revealing his role on public interview, he was displeased and sought to punish Schmidt for trying to undo his work, ordering Vanny to try and strike him down when the opportunity arises.

In a response to a review by a reader, the author revealed that Glitchtrap is more competent that William Afton, ironically.
It's possible that Glitchtrap will be replaced by the Mimic as the central antagonist in the future
