~ Grand King Ghidorah in 'Monster Island War'. |
Grand King Ghidorah is one of the main antagonists of the web-series Monster Island Buddies. He served as a minor antagonist in Season 5, a major antagonist of Season 6, the main antagonist of Season 7, and a supporting antagonist of Season 8.
He was the father of Keizer Ghidorah, and the grandfather of General King Ghidorah.
Personality[]
Grand Ghidorah is ruthless, even towards his relatives. He is very old school with his ways and believes in killing divine moths and taking over the Earth. However, a comedic part of his personality is his stereotypical old man personality. He talks like an old man, gets distracted easily, and also forgets things pretty fast, which is how Keizer stopped him from breaking the truce.
Character Overview[]
Being a Ghidorah, Grand King Ghidorah is just as (if not more so) ruthless as the rest of his family and strongly stands by his destiny to rule over the Earth. He is also shown to be rather disapproving of Keizer's parenting skills, King Ghidorah's "ungrateful" upbringing, and the other remaining evil monsters for making a truce with the Divine Moths and the Monster Island Buddies. However, like the average elderly person, he possesses symptoms of Alzheimer's as he is often forgetful of his plans and becomes distracted at times.
Grand King Ghidorah made his debut in season 5, appearing in a flashback, where he is berating both his grandson and his son. He appears again in episode 63 during Monster Island Mailbag when Keizer Ghidorah asks him what its like to be old, however as an old, rather senile man, he mistakes his son for a pizza delivery service and doesn't know how to properly operate his phone.
Grand King Ghidorah did not have a prominent role in the series until Season 6, when he arrives on Monster Island to take control of the Ghidorahs and berate his son for stopping his invasion of Earth and creating a truce with the Divine Moths. He is especially angered by Battra's (a Divine Moth) presence, Battra then left the group to join Mothra. However due to his failing thought process he is quickly sent away by Keizer who tells him a Matlock marathon is on TV. In the next episode (set in an alternate, bad future) Grand is told by Gigan (Bad Future) that Battra is with Godzilla and the rest of the good monsters, Grand then orders Gigan to kill Battra and the good monsters. In Episode 75, during the Ghidorah's attack on the monster's base (in present timeline) Grand leads the attack but is attacked by Battra and Mothra and is forced to retreat. At the end of the episode Grand announces the start of the Monster Island War to Keizer and appoints his grandson General King Ghidorah as General.
In Episode 85 Grand leads the rest of the Ghidorahs in an another attack on the good monster's base. The good monsters retreat after the death of Zilla. At the end of Episode 87 the good monsters (except Godzilla, Minilla and his other sons) and are taken to Grand who tries them one at a time. At the trials, Grand orders Ghidorah to execute Mothra, however when Ghidorah hesitates due to his affection for her, Grand demands to know why and is horrified at the knowledge of Mothra's and Ghidorah's previous relationship and quickly demands her execution. Rodan however jubs into Ghidorah before he can kill her, Ghidorah asks for help but Grand is so disappointed at his inability to fend of Rodan that he says he can't help him. Orga pulls Rodan off Ghidorah and Grand once more demands Mothra's execution however this time interrupted by Biollante and her boyfriend Varan who are protesting the war. They stage a sit-in in Grand's lair and when Grand orders Megalon and Gigan to remove them Biollante attacks and subdues them, buying time for Mothra and Rodan's escape.
Once Keizer was killed by Minilla, and Ghidorah decided to stand up for himself and defect from the evil side, Grand Ghidorah betrayed his grandson and fatally wounded him so that he could dispose of the Monster Island Buddies. Before dying though, Ghidorah transferred what remained of his power to Mothra, transforming her into "Fire Mothra," and she killed Grand Ghidorah with her new powers, ending the War once and for all. He was brought back from hell by Cthulhu as back up, but was killed again by a Godzilla from an alternate timeline, Big Daddy G.
Trivia[]
Grand King Ghidorah is portrayed by the 12" Bandai Super Dragon King Ghidorah.
It's unknown who killed him or how he died in World War G, but he was last seen getting attacked by Big Daddy Godzilla, so he was likely killed by him.
