~ Griatos, Sonic: Grieving trailer for the LuigiKid direct |
Griatos is an antagonist created by MadzillaKOTH, and was set to be the main antagonist of Sonic: Grieving. A reaper who was exiled from Limbo, he found his own freedom and resides in the land of the living.
Appearance[]
Griatos appears as an emaciated bird-like demon with dark crimson skin and long limbs. His face is that of a bird with a large beak, black eyes, a wide grin, and four feather-like protrusions. He has spindly arms and legs with broken joints near the feet, as well as sporting crab like claws, the under claw seemingly being able to retract into a socket (Seen in newer references). On his back he sports spiked fins, the lowest one curving into what looks like a small tail.
Personality[]
Griatos is mainly fueled by his addiction, that being of human souls. Cruel and spiteful to his victims, he does not care for anything but consuming more and more souls. The best that one could describe him as is rabid and greed in his desire, to the point that no one in humanity is safe.
When it comes to Demogri, an angel that Griatos consumed the wings of, the two do not get along for various reasons, the biggest one being their differing goals.
Biography[]
The Reapers were a species existing in the plain of judgment, Limbo. Reapers are created and sent to retrieve the souls of those who have just passed, bringing them into their domain to be judged, heaven or hell being the outcomes depending on the subject. Reapers are not completely perfect beings. With no higher being to regulate everything all at once, they established their own society. Only the strongest of these beings were allowed into the land of the living. One reaper in particular, however, slipped past the regulations. For reasons still not known, it’s mind was filled with such horrid thoughts, gluttony, hate, anger, fear. It was not uncommon for the Reaper to grow agitated on the job. On a particular trip, the Reaper violated the orders of Limbo, being the first in ages to make contact with a human soul, attacking and devouring it. After containment, other beings noticed the Reaper’s face slowly contort, gaining a smile that never seemed to fade. Plans were set to execute the rogue Reaper, however on the date their chance came, the culprit was gone.
For generations, the Reapers scoured the lands, whether it be on Earth, Heaven, or Hell, the rogue beast was nowhere to be found. Despite this, legends reigning on Earth speak of a deranged bird like humanoid surrounded in smog, tearing tribes apart, involving itself in wars, as well as earning itself a new name. Griatos, a name of a significant figure spoken of by an unknown higher being in an old scripture, foretelling a prophecy of 9 crucial events that will take place before what it only called ‘The Tragedy.’

Trivia[]
- Originally, Griatos was classified as a take on Sonic.exe, but as of now, it is considered its own original project completely unrelated to Sonic the Hedgehog as a whole.[1] For sake of brevity, his time as an EXE is listed here.
- Griatos, alongside his accomplice/victim Demogri, were based off of Red from the NES Godzilla Creepypasta.
- Griatos was first made on the 17th of November, 2020. His creation was Madzilla's way of having an antagonist in his take on Sonic.exe, as the possesed Sonic was no longer taking the villain role.
- If Griatos were to get into Pokemon, he would prefer to use Ghost-Types.[2] When questioned on if it's because he was going to eat them, he plead the fifth.
- His "blood type" is polka-dot.[3]
- His original chromatic in vs Sonic, exe was meant to sound like the original Sonic.exe/Xenophanes' chromatic.
- Griatos was originally going to give the player a venture into hell in the "final" draft of Sonic: Grieving
- Griatos's theme was originally composed as a final boss theme for Revie's very own EXE. When scrapped, it was passed onto Griatos so the track would at the very least not go unused, due to Madzilla liking it so much.
- Griatos is occasionally compared to Rodan from the Godzilla franchise, an unintentional design inspiration Madzilla claims.
- Griatos and Demogri were originally going to die in the "final" draft of Sonic: Grieving.
- When asked about "Mourning Sun" in an interview, Griatos, again, plead the fifth.
- Griatos is able to protract burning red sharp teeth out of his beak, though it is uncertain if other Reapers could do the same.
