Gumball Tristopher Watterson is the main antagonist of the The “Joy” Infection AU series, based on the episode of the same name from The Amazing World Of Gumball.
He is the son of Nicole and Richard Watterson, the older brother of Anais, and the adoptive brother of Darwin. Like his original counterpart in the episode of the same name the series is based on, he is a mindless beast who only seeks to spread the infection of the joy virus, albeit much more dangerous, terrifying, animalistic, and zombie-like.
Despite being infected with the joy virus, he retains his memories of when he was a normal cat and is possibly the leader of all the infected in the series and the most mutated so far. In The “Joy” 4 TAWOG Infection AU, it can be seen that he tried to kill Penny, Darwin, and Carrie, and that he undergoes a terrible transformation.
Biography[]
Origin[]
Gumball lived through most of the events of the main series, at least the first three seasons. He experienced the events of the shell and The Gi, and as we know, he also lived through the origin story with Darwin and Anais, and even cared for them, as we saw in a flashback in episode 4. This suggests that this version of Gumball is calmer and friendlier than his counterpart from the original series.
Series[]
The "Joy" 3 TAWOG Infection AU flashback[]
Gumball and his siblings were having breakfast, but Gumball himself was in a bad mood because it was Monday. His father Richard decixed to cheer him up and gave him a hug, which spread or created the Joy Virus. After entering his system, the first symptoms of infection would manifest while he was at school, smiling uncontrollably, and the teacher Miss Simian noticed this and sent him to the infirmary. Upon closer inspection by Principal Brown and the school nurse, they would find that he was getting worse and drooling rainbow colored saliva. Believing this to be a prank, Principal Brown became irritated, and this was when Gumball bit Principal Brown, spreading the infection and and leaving the infirmary, where he would mutate quickly and amorphously. After leaving, Principal Brown became infected and spread the infection to the rest of the school, thus beginning the crisis.
The “Joy” TAWOG Infection AU[]
While Darwin and Anais are talking about how their father's hug caused the Joy infection, Gumball is seen behind Darwin and the latter tells his sister to run, presumably captured and infected by Gumball.
The "Joy" 2 TAWOG Infection AU and Joy Infection Informative Video[]
Gumball appeared in a log of Anais's diary from the last date she saw him, where Anais's diary explains how Gumball became infected and how the infection spread through the school.
The “Joy” 4 TAWOG Infection AU[]
When Darwin reveals that he is alive, he begins to explain what happened shortly after Anais left. He tries to reason with Gumball, who is already infected, and tells him that he knows there is still one out there. Gumball seems to remember what he experienced before he was infected and even tries to shake Darwin's hand. However, his infected impulses return, causing him to bite Darwin and then try to kill him by crushing him with his hand. Fortunately for Darwin, he is saved by his girlfriend Carrie, who hits Gumball with a shovel, saving Darwin's life in the process. Penny tells Darwin to run as fast as possible. Penny also tries to reason with Gumball and even flirt with him, but her efforts are in vain, and he tries to attack Penny and the others while they are fleeing. They escape, bursting into a room. Penny blocks the door with a filing cabinet. Gumball roars and then feels a pain. Unbearable pain in his chest, probably because he's undergoing another transformation, and then he leaves the hallway. Although he doesn't appear after that, Nicole blames Richard for causing all this to her son and for all this suffering and disaster, and for unintentionally transforming her son into a monster.
Appearance[]
Just like his original animated series version, he is a 12-year-old turquoise anthropomorphic cat who is 3'3.5" tall, wears a tan sweater with brown cuffs and collar, and has a fang sticking out of his mouth.
However, with the joy virus, his pupils dilate, he displays a wide smile, and his saliva and blood turn pink. As time passes, his body mutates to such a degree that he becomes more muscular, monstrous, and tall, possibly measuring almost 2 meters in height. His shirt also becomes more torn due to the accelerated growth of the infection, and the tip of his tail is bald.
Personality[]
Before becoming infected, Gumball appeared to be the same was the same as his original counterpart in the series, a sarcastic and snarky person. And just like in the main series and in the episode about joy, he shows himself to be in a bad mood on many occasions, but he is also usually friendly and loves Penny and genuinely cared about his best friend Darwin.
when he is infected with the Joy Virus, his personality changes completely, resembling a wild and territorial animal whose sole purpose is to infect or kill uninfected people. But when Darwin speaks with him, it's clear he still retains memories of his past life and even tries to shake Darwin's hand just before succumbing to the infection again. He also tends to have a mean-spirited personality when infected, often drooling excessively upon seeing his victims.

Abilities[]
- Virus Joy Physiology: Gumball is infected with the joy virus that his father gave him with a hug, and when he mutates he demonstrates superhuman abilities; these include:
- Animalisitc Intelligence: Despite being infected by the joy virus he is not dead and demonstrates an animalistic intelligence that, although savage, is capable of stalking its prey without reacting.
- Excellent stealth: He possesses an almost unpredictable stealth, as he is able to stalk his victims just as he was able to be behind Darwin without him or Anais noticing.
- Superhuman Strength: Due to the mutation Gumball demonstrates a high muscle mass and superhuman strength, capable of quickly crushing and killing his victims.
- Superhuman Durabily and Endurance: He demonstrates that he can withstand the blows with the lever that Carrie gives him, and these hardly affect him, as well as the strong mutations of the virus.
- Superhuman Agility: He demonstrated superhuman agility, moving in an animalistic, jaguar-like manner. He would have caught up with Darwin had Penny and Carrie not managed to lock the door, and in fact, he would have entered had he not been undergoing a transformation that forced him to retreat.
- Infection: can turn people into infected with the joy virus in minutes, just like it did with Principal Brown and other students at Elmore High School, and it can turn them from normal people to monstrous abominations.
- Intimidation: Being the largest infected, with an appearance proportionate to its body, and with a disturbing smile, and generally mutating so much into horrifying forms, when someone sees it, they are paralyzed by its grotesque transformation.
- Large Size: It's a mutant monster measuring over 2 meters tall, and one might think that if it continues to mutate it will become even taller.
- Unpredictability: He is too fast, agile, and stealthy to warn of danger in advance and be able to flee from him; in fact, he attacks his victims quickly, just as he did with Darwin when he bit his arm.
- Sharp claws and teeth: He has sharp fangs and claws that allow him to bite, tear apart, and even mutilate his victims with ease and extreme precision.
- Resurection: While Gumball has not been shown to have this ability, being infected with the Joy Virus gives him the same ability as Principal Brown to revive his victims through bodily fluids like saliva and practically bring the infected back to life.

Trivia[]
- This version of Gumball is possibly the most atrocious version of Gumball Watterson due to the grizzly nature of his actions throughout the course of the series, such as the murders and infections occurring as a result of his actions.
- In the original version of the episode, Joy, Gumball and Darwin are the ones who are in a bad mood and are the first to be infected. In the infection AU continuity, it is only Gumball who is in a bad mood and gets infected.
- In the next episodes we will see more of Gumball and his mutations as well as that of Principal Brown and other victims.
- In the original episode of the series it happened in season 2, however in the series The “Joy” TAWOG Infection AU they reveal in the episode that Penny no longer has her shell and is freed from it, which this version of Gumball saw the events of the shell episode and that the events of this analogous terror occur between season 3 and 4.
- He is the second most terrifying infected in the series after Principal Brown, since he undergoes a radical change in his appearance and personality.
