Hades is major villain in the Character What franchise, He is the ruler of the Underworld and is Zeus's brother, Hades was the main antagonist of the Disney's 1997 animated film Hercules.
Backgrounds[]
Hades' brother Zeus entrusted him for the responsibilities of watching over the Underworld, where all spirits go to after death. Unknown to Zeus, Hades grow bored of his job, finding the Underworld to be gloomy, depressing, and overbearing. Hades developed a grudge toward Zeus and plans to overthrow his brother for residing in such a dark place without taking his feelings account.
Hades arrives on Olympus to attend the celebration of his nephew Hercules's birth, making a joke for having a "hunk of moussaka caught his throat", which the other gods on Mount Olympus didn't found it funny and not happy to see him. His brother Zeus greets him for attending Hercules' christening and ask him for "how things are doing in the Underworld", Hades mentions that the Underworld is a dark and horrible place for being full with deceased spirits. Hades then takes notice of his nephew Hercules and push a oblivious Zeus out of his way. Upon observing his nephew, he create a spiked skull-shaped pacifier out of smoke, Hades attempts to put the pacifier into Hercules' mouth to hurt him, but Hercules grabs onto his fingers and squeezes them tight to cause Hades some pain. Hades pulls his fingers from his nephew's grab, now realizing how strong and powerful the baby for his young age. Zeus wraps his arm around Hades and tell him to lighten up and join into the festivities, but Hades slips away and points out that he would love to, if it wasn't for his duties of maintaining the Underworld (which Zeus himself struck his brother with). Being humiliated by Zeus and other gods, he leaves and plans someday to overthrow his brother and takeover Mount Olympus.
Character What: Tales[]
In Art Power, Hades was in the Underworld thinking how to defeat Hercules, Hades gets frustrated when he couldn't think of any more ideas to defeat his nephew Hercules. Discord came to the Underworld and requested for him to help the latter to defeat Shadow Joe, Hades reluctantly agrees to assist Discord.
In Smile Hades, Hades appeared in Ponyville and Pinkie Pie noticed how miserable Hades was. Pinkie Pie went to Hades and tries to make him laugh with her silly jokes, but Hades gets annoyed with Pinkie Pie's antics and didn't find her jokes funny.
Character What: Revenge of Evil[]
Hades was first seen doing his usual job of bring dead souls to the Underworld, before he was transported out of his realm. Hades appears in a intergalactic spaceship and met several villains, he was irritated when Discord roach a marshmallow above his flaming hair. Shadow Aaron revealed himself to be the one who is responsible for summoning them, Hades and the other villains are shocked to him, as they hasn't seen him since he was defeated by Twilight Sparkle. Shadow Aaron demonstrate his powers by reviving many of the villains who were killed during the series, turning Princess Morbuck into a Powerpuff Girl, and restoring Mother Gothel her youth and beauty. Afterwards, Shadow Aaron explains his reasons of summoning them as part of his plans to destroy Shadow Joe and dominate the multiverse. However, Hades refuse to work with Shadow Aaron and proclaims that he would rather not take his chances with Shadow Joe, and prefers to rule alone, but after witnessing Shadow Aaron destroying Time Baby with a single blast, Hades nervously agrees to serve him.
Character What: Chronicles[]
Hades returns in the 5th iteration of the franchise, as a recurring minor antagonist, and only appearing in a few episodes.
Hades was going through his usual plans to destroy Hercules and overthrow Zeus, but couldn't think of anymore ideas so he calls out the Fates to know what Hercules doing. The Fates show him that Shadow Joe and his team were talking Hercules about training Bambi into being a hero, making Hades realized that Shadow Joe has a new member of his team, he decide to use the young fawn as part of his plan to force Shadow Joe into making a deal into bring back the Titans exchange for Bambi's safety. Hades sends Pain and Panic to kidnap Bambi and bring him to the Underworld, the two imps transform into Bambi's love interest Faline to divert and capture him without fail. After successfully catching Bambi, Pain and Panic return the underworld and as they were riding down the River Styx, they throw a massive steak to fed Cerberus and let them pass. When Bambi was brought into Hades's lair, Hades introduce himself the young prince and explains that he is in the Underworld were deceased souls go to after death. Hades shows Bambi the River Styx were all of the dead souls are kept, Bambi wonders if his mother in the River Styx so he ask Hades. However, Hades reveals that he had never seen Bambi's mother in the underworld, and explains if she is in the River Styx, she would been already pass with the other deceased spirits. Seeing the opportunity, Hades manipulates Bambi into making a deal with him, saying that if he helps him with his plans, Hades would bring his mother back from dead, which Bambi agrees and shakes Hades's hand. However, much to his horror, Hades revealed that his plan is to use Bambi as a hostage to force Shadow Joe into making a deal into bring back the Titans or else Hades would not let Bambi go. Realizing Hades's true intentions, Bambi called off the deal, but Hades explains that it is too late to change his mind since he had already made a deal. Shadow Joe and friends realized that Bambi is missing and restless hours looking for him but couldn't find him, Shadow Joe used his super vision to see where Bambi is. After finding out that Bambi is in Hades's liar, Shadow Joe races into the Underworld to rescue Bambi, and use Cerberus to break into Hades's inner sanctum like Hercules did. Shadow Joe confronts Hades and demand him to let Bambi go, Hades smugly explains that Bambi had made a deal, and will only give him back if Shadow Joe make a deal into freeing the Titans from Tartarus for him. Thinking about it, Shadow Joe offer the Titans' freedom in exchange for Bambi's as well, which Hades gladly agrees. However, in a twist, Shadow Joe instead brought the Teen Titans to confront Hades. Hades angerly asks that them are not the Titans that he expected, but Shadow Joe exclaims that "You Didn't Say Which Titans You Wanted". Shadow Joe leave Hades at the mercy of the Teen Titans and take Bambi back to Philoctetes's island so he can train Bambi into being a hero like Hercules.
In Fawn in the Empire, Vilgax was seen with the other villains who had attended Shadow Aaron's villain meeting in a theatre. Where Discord explains to Shadow Aaron that he has recently seen Bambi with Shadow Joe, Hades backs Discord up and explains that he has also seen Bambi with Shadow Joe recently. Later, back on Shadow Aaron's intergalactic spaceship, Hades along with the rest of the villains were informed by Shadow Aaron that Bambi is aboard the spaceship and ordered to captured immediately. Hades is seen with Discord and Ursula in the search for Bambi.
In Bambi the Superdeer, Hades somehow brought back the Titans and sends them to attacks Shadow Joe's base and take the other heroes by force. The Titans overpowers the heroes while Lythos raise the roof of the base and Stratos suck the heroes into his tornado arms. Shadow Joe tries to overpower the Titans, but suffered problems with his powers again, gaining the Titans the upper hands with Hydros and Pyros combining their ice and lava powers to imprison and immobilized Shadow Joe like they did to Zeus. After believing that he won, Hades started gloating about his triumphant that he had finally defeated Shadow Joe once and for all, when Bambi arrives and tells Hades to stop. Unaware that Shadow Joe recently granted Bambi superpowers, though sees Bambi flying with butterfly wings, Hades doesn't take Bambi seriously as a threat until Bambi used his eye lasers to free the heroes from their chains, much to Hades's shock and anger. Frustrated with Bambi's interference, Hades angerly orders to attack Bambi, but Bambi managed to get through the Titans and frees Shadow Joe, enraging Hades even further. Shadow Joe and Bambi team up to defeat Titans and drive them away, except for Stratos, who decided to stand to his ground. However, Bambi grabbed Stratos (by using his mouth thanks to his superior strength granted by Shadow Joe) and swung him around to suck up the remaining Titans in the manner similar to how Hercules defeated them. Like Hercules, Bambi continued swinging Stratos before releasing him, sending him along with the rest of the Titans into space, where resulted in a spectacular cosmic explosion similar to their first deaths. Frustrated over his failure and the loss of the Titans, Hades retreats, but vows to return and settle a score with Bambi for ruining his victory.
In Hades Back, Hades visits Shadow Joe and enters his house, but was not too happy to see him. Hades also meets Llama Llama, Mama Llama and Bender for the first time, Hades also comments on Mama Llama's Sarah Stature costume sarcastically saying "Looking Good Nice Dress" while noticing Llama Llama behind her, who is frightened by Hades before Bender makes fun of Hades' flaming hair, prompting Hades to angerly to sending Bender out of the house with a bursts of flames while Shadow Joe shields the others from the blast. After regaining his cool, Hades noticed Bambi behind Shadow Joe and greets the young fawn, only for Shadow Joe to tell Hades to back up and want him to come anywhere near Bambi, so a unfazed Hades decide to leave before promising to meet Shadow Joe again very soon.
After episode Hades Back, Hades is not been seen since, as he does not appears in the following instalments, such as Character What: Extraordinary Journey, Character What: Ultimate Hero, Character What: New Adventures, and Character What: Heroes Times.
Character What: The Return of Shadow Aaron[]
After his long absent since Character What: Chronicles, Hades makes return as the secondary antagonist of the film finale of Character What: Good Times, his henchmen Pain and Panic tell him that they found Shadow Aaron's spirit in the underworld, they show Hades that Shadow Aaron was in the river of souls and Hades spotted him, so Hades ordered Pain and Panic to fish out of the river. Shadow Aaron first demands Hades to restore him back to life. However, since Shadow Aaron no longer has his powers and was in Hades' domain, he refuse to do anything for Shadow Aaron, considering he in the underworld and the fact that Hades is the boss to every soul in the underworld. However, Hades decides to used his godly powers to create a crystal to restore Shadow Aaron's physical form and his powers after hearing enough of Shadow Aaron's complains. Hades inform Shadow Aaron that as long he wears the crystal, he will remain flesh and blood and more powerful than ever but still didn't feel life despite regaining his physical body. After Shadow Aaron's crystal and became a spirit again and fell into the River Styx, thus grabbed away the souls never to be seen again, Shadow Joe has Hades taking into custody for being Shadow Aaron back to life, though Hades exclaims that he was force into doing so and never wanted to revive Shadow Aaron in the first place before being taken away by the Clone Troopers.
Powers and Abilities []
- Underworld Lordship: Being the lord of the dead, Hades has his own dominion over the deceased spirits in the Underworld. However, he does not rule the dead in the Underworld, as the spirits in the River Styx was able to dragged to him into the debts of the Styx twice.
- Fire Manipulation: Hades can shoot fireballs that cause great amount damage and destroy a object with one shot, he able to unleashed a burst of flames enough to burn a entire forest to the ground in mere seconds as a result of his outburst, and can also breathe fire from his mouth. His pyrokinetic attacks are lethal to mortals and can could severely damage to immortals such as gods and his imps Pain and Panic.
- Monster Control: Hades can command underworld creatures, like Cerberus to do his bidding
- Smoke Manipulation: Beside his fire powers, Hades can create objects and small creatures out of smoke. He can also teleport himself in a cloud of smoke by snapping his fingers. Hades can turn his arms into smokey appendages to extend and grab objects from a distance. Hades can also telekinetically lift objects into the air by encasing them with smoke.
- Immortally: Being a god, Hades has eternal life. He cannot age, nor can he die. However, Shadow Aaron state that he can kill Hades with his own powers.
- Resurrection: Hades can bring the dead back to life. However, as demonstrated with Shadow Aaron, he only created a crystal to make Shadow Aaron corporealized, and not truly brought him back to life.
- Temperature Resistance: Hades can withstand freezing cold temperatures and is unfazed by molten lava. However, Hades is not immune to pain, and can be harmed by lightning.
