Ilirana Ravyn, or Headmistress Ravyn (or simply Ravyn) is a major antagonist in the fantasy series The Dream Zone. She is the eponymous main antagonist in Ravyn, and a posthumous antagonist afterwards.

She was the incumbent Headmistress of the Xorthus Academy of Magic, and was a master of all ten Branches of Magic.

After failing to take proper control of Goro's mind, Korthan realizes youth can regenerate his powers faster after he kills Obidiah by taking away his youth. He searches for a place with the most sources of youth available to him. It couldn't be two big, nor too small, and only one place was perfect enough; Xorthus Academy. He meets with the Headmistress of Xorthus, being Ravyn. He makes a deal with her, telling her that if she gathers the youth of 50 students, he will give her infinite power, making her and the school the most powerful in the world. However, it is revealed at the end that it was a lie, and was just a trick to regenerate Korthan's power. He ends up destroying the Academy, killing many students and Ravyn with it.

Appearance[]

Ravyn has white skin, white hair, and wrinkles to indicate her old age. She wears a large black robe, sometimes with large shoulder spikes. In addition, she wears a standard witch's hat. She does wear different robes, but the one mentioned is one she wears often throughout the story.

Biography[]

The Dream Zone: Ravyn[]

After the death of Aquafine and the theft of the cube by some hooligans in Xorthus, Charleston, Ariana, Kara, and Goro have to go to Xorthus since their cube was stolen. After successfully registrating, they have to attend the Start of the Year orientation ceremony, where Ravyn makes her first appearance, showcasing her mastery of 7 of the ten Branches of Magic, which are the ones being taught at the school. After, Ravyn shows distaste to the ceremony, and goes to her office in the middle tower of the school. She is confronted by Korthan, who tells her about himself, and how he is weak at the moment and needs her help.

After convincing Ravyn to help him by saying he'll make her his Messenger of Death and infinite power, she agrees to collect 50 bottles of youth from different students. What he doesn't tell her is that once the youth is taken, the victim dies. Throughout the story, different students in the school go missing, and Ravyn targets the troublemakers and instigates events where an expellable offense occurs. The cover up story is that Ravyn expelled them, and was falsely confirmed by the Student Council, who agreed to help her.

Jasmine, the Head of Human Students of the Student Council, investigates the sudden expulsions of 48 students. While snooping around, she finds Ravyn taking a student's youth and encasing it in a bottle. Zarese and Dazemu, Heads of the Selkie and Werewolf Students of the Council take the body and put it in a tube, where she finds 49 tubes of the supposed expelled students. Keeper Nevthe nearly discovers Jasmine, but she runs away in time.

Charleston, a student named Zerro, and Jasmine concoct a plan with the others confront Ravyn and obtain the Wayfinder cube during Final Exams. On the day of exams, the plan is carried out. However, Alice discovers the Youth Machine and is killed, causing the Charleston, Zerro and Jasmine to be summoned to Ravyn's office. As the sun sets after Final Exams, the trio is confronted by Ravyn, who binds them as Korthan steps in from the shadows. He taunts Charleston and proceeds to kill Jasmine, taking her youth away. Zerro attempts to retaliate, but is instead thrown out a window. Devastated, Charleston can only watch as Korthan destroys the cube in front of him. Afterwords, however, Charleston releases an explosive bubble that blinds everyone in the room. Free from his binds, Charleston tackles Ravyn, who flings the both of them out the office window.

After a hard fought battle, Charles wins against Ravyn, and she flees. She finds Korthan in her office, done absorbing the youth. She demands that she gets answers for why he made her do all those things to her own students, and if he really was going to follow through with his promise. Korthan cackles and tells her that it was all a ruse, and delivers a cold monologue about how easy it is to manipulate people. While laughing, he teleports, and blows up the main tower with Ravyn inside, killing her.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Mastery of all the Branches of Magic: Because she is the Headmistress of the most prestigious school in the magical world, she had to master all of the branches, including Dark, Chaos, and Time Magic. She also knows Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Thunder, Light, and Ice Magic, and showcased that mastery at both the Orientation Ceremony and the fight against Charles.
  • Wand Magic: She uses a wand, which gives her access to different kinds of spells, such as levitation spells, mind-control spells, and even the spell she used to collect one's youth.
  • High-Intellect: In order to learn magic, she had to be extremeley intelligent. This intelligence also allowed her to instigate events that would easily give her a student for the youth-taking.

Trivia[]

  • The original plan for Ravyn's character as a villain was that she would be taking youth for her own selfish gain, but was scrapped.
  • Ravyn originally used to be #6 in the series. In the spot of #5 would be a story where the group accidentally ventures into a world of candy, with the villain being a charcter named Sugarplum, a sadistic psychopath, controlled by a gobstpper creature known as Gobstobob. The story was moved to #7, but was later scrapped.
