Roderick Arthur Kingsley, known as Hobgoblin, with his first and last name being Roderick Kingsley, is the final antagonist in the Wattpad fanfiction The Firestarter Returns and the main antagonist of it's sequel The Firestarter Returns: Second Trip.
He is a criminal who had been on the run from his father after a vehicular accident. He is the worst enemy of Charlie McGee for having killed John Rainbird.
Biography[]
Early life[]
While going to his paternal grandmother's house with his father, Dave Kingsley as Do You Hear What I Hear by Bing Crosby is playing on the radio on the way. Dave, who had been mocking and verbally harrassing his son, asked him if he remembered not to bring his Etch-A-Sketch with him. After Roderick was insulted by another passing driver, Dave told him that he can only rely on himself to deal with his issues.
This left Roderick looking down at himself, and after seeing a fire, he tried to tell Dave, but he got ticked off with his son, causing Dave to swerve, and as soon as he regained control, he stopped at a nearby intersection. After being berated by his father, an oncoming car crashed into the car that they were using. The Cadillac flipped on it's left side, then continued rolling in the air, until 1/8 of a mile down the road, when it landed into a ditch, turned on it's left side. Roderick then got out of the car, and even though he had found it difficult, he managed to do so. He then fled the scene, but Dave was still in the car, unconscious, but still alive. As Roderick grew up, he was forced to eat dead animals and out of the garbage cans whenever he could.

Roderick only appears at the end, where at his house, he is reading a newspaper about the death of Doctor Octopus, and after he walks down into the basement, he embraces his new identity as the Hobgoblin.

First attempt to have Charlie McGee kidnapped[]
At the same spot where the Kingsley car had crashed, Adrian Toomes, aka The Vulture, has his plasma pistol out, and has recieved his orders from Hobgoblin.
Planning for retaliation against his father[]
As Vulture arrived at Hobgoblin's house, he opened the door, and on the dining table, is a note that says he is 9 months late on his taxes. After Vulture informed him that the bus has been taken care of, Hobgoblin decided to get revenge on his father for his mistreatment. He flew off using his glider while Vulture used his electromagnetic wing harness.
Enacting his revenge[]
At an assisted living home 55 minutes from the school, Vulture and Hobgoblin landed in front. After the receptionist, Elfrida Jarringson, rejects an advance that Hobgoblin made, hn discharged a pulse of electricity at Elfrida, injuring her. Then, Hobgoblin and Vulture made their way to a random room.
After barging into the room Dave was in since the accident, Hobgoblin chastized his father, who was about to press a button to call his nurse in, but Roderick, armed with his two of his bat shaped razor-edged throwing blades, pushed the wheelchair into the wall, causing it to get stuck due to the wheels having been wedged into the wall. As Roderick was ready to strike, Dave was ready to give up everything just to have his life spared. Roderick, remembering his father's harsh words he was told when he was a child, throws two of his bat shaped razor-edged throwing blades into his chest, killing Dave instantly. After putting his mask back on, Hobgoblin used his glider while Vulture used his electromagnetic wing harness to fly off.
Encounter with Dr. Curtis Connors[]
After arriving at the labratory and the aquarium that Charlie McGee and the other kids were at, Hobgoblin, along with Vulture, entered the labratory. After being told to leave, Hobgoblin broke Connor's right arm, stole the equipment, then left.
Chaos on the road[]
After Vulture then placed a remote transmitter on the bottom of the bus, then placed a screen he had invented inside. Hobgoblin then went out of the lab, and saw a trailer that belonged to Curt Connors, which he then sat down on the couch, took off his costume, and took out a controller in the shape of an Atari 2600. Shortly after that, Roderick gained full control of the bus, which he used for causing chaos. After the remore was taken off by Charlie's pyrokinesis, he screamed in fury.
Transforming Dr. Connors into The Lizard and new plan[]
Hobgoblin flew off to a hospital, where Dr. Connors was, and showed up with a syringe with DNA from lizards. After Curt was angered over realizing that Hobgoblin was responsible for the situation he is in, he gave Connors an injection to "make it up to him", resulting in his transformation into The Lizard.
After killing 5 of the hospital staff, Lizard, along with Vulture and Hobgoblin, fled the hospital, then they entered an alleyway to develop a new plan.
Tracking down and abduction of Charlie McGee[]
After the 3 villains went past the wrecking site and arrived at the Manders farm, While Irv and Norma Manders were distracted in dealing with Vulture and Lizard, Hobgoblin found his way towards Charlie, who had gotten her pink pajamas out, was scooped up by Hobgoblin, then as he got his glider ready, John Rainbird had gotten into his car, and followed the Hobgoblin to his house.
Killing John Rainbird[]
After tying Charlie McGee up to the couch, she demanded that Hobgoblin let her go, but he refused, and John Rainbird came into the house, armed with a Colt Commander pistol, he aimed at Hobgoblin, then fired at him. As the two fought, Charlie McGee used her pyrokinesis on the table, causing Hobgoblin to fall, but John is about to take off the mask. Seeing this as an advantage, Hobgoblin grabs two smoke Jack-O-Lantern bombs, disorienting John Rainbird as he looks through the smoke. Then, Hobgoblin, with a butcher knife, stabs John Rainbird, fatally injuring him.
Final showdown and death[]
As he was flying off, Charlie then noticed the money that Hobgoblin stole. After telling him that it's not right to steal, he throws her off his glider, nearly killing her. After the Hobgoblin landed, he flies at her, Colt Mustang and bat shaped razor-edged throwing blade in hand. Hobgoblin fires a shot, but when Charlie uses her pyrokinesis, the bullet explodes, causing the glider to catch fire, and crashes into a tree. The impact caused Hobgoblin to drop both of his weapons as he landed flat on his back on the ground, damaging the costume in some areas, weakening how bulletproof it was. After the glider crashed, it exploded in a ball of fire. Charlie then picks up the bat shaped razor-edged throwing blade and holds it at Hobgoblin's chest, intending for payback for John Rainbird's death. After having a flashback to her father, she spares him. Hobgoblin then staggers back up, then he attempts to choke Charlie. She then dodges the attack, causing Hobgoblin to stop and turn his attention back to her.
He then aims his Colt Mustang at Charlie, only for her to disarm him by use of a stick. Hobgoblin then kicks Charlie into a tree, where he picks up the pistol, and aims it at her forehead. He is about to pull the trigger, but Charlie, using her pyrokinesis, causes the gun to explode, resulting in Hobgoblin being sent flying as the area between them is on fire. Charlie then walks away from the burning area, then approached the burning glider wreckage. Hobgoblin then approaches her, then grabs a taser. Then, Charlie kicks Hobgoblin in the kneecaps. At the same time, Irv Manders had arrived with his deer gun, then shot Hobgoblin in the arm, injuring him. Charlie then uses the telekinesis she inherited from Andy, and uses a rock to hit the Hobgoblin in the back, where he falls, but gets back up. They see that they are near a ravine. Hobgoblin then pulls out another gun, a Bren Ten pistol, and Charlie McGee uses the mental domination she inherited from her father to convince Hobgoblin to shoot himself in the left foot. She then uses her pyrokinesis to cause both of Hobgoblin's feet to catch fire, resulting in him falling to his death at the bottom of the ravine, avenging John Rainbird's death.
Personality[]
Roderick Kingsley was a docile child, but showed fear whenever around his father. As an adult where he became the supervillain Hobgoblin, he became violent, creepy, and even murderous.

- Roderick Kingsley/Hobgoblin is a dark parallel to Charlie McGee. While Roderick had a father that undermined and did not love him, Charlie had a father who appreciated and loved her. Despite the deaths of their respective parents, Charlie was adopted by the Manders farmers. If Charlie was left on her own after her father's death, she would've ended up like Roderick Kingsley/Hobgoblin.
