Hourglass is a major antagonist in the Five Nights at Treasure Island series.

It is a hybrid of all Treasure's Island Toons, except for The Face, created by MOTHER as her primary subordinate and a means to kill Jake Smith.

In Five Nights at Treasure Island, it is voiced by Nocturnum, who also voiced Undying. In Oblitus Casa, it is voiced by BGFilms64, who also voices Henry Miller.

Appearance[]

Hourglass appear to be a humanoid with Mickey Mouse mask and Impurity's teeth.

Personality[]

As a hybrid, Hourglass is purely homicidal, showing no sign of being tragic, even though it is made up of tragic characters having suffered due to MOTHER. Unlike the characters it is made up of, it shows no signs of regret or reluctance in its journey to kill whomever crosses it, having been removed of any emotion it could process. Eventually, this develops into learning how to lure its enemies closer towards it, as shown by the Tunnels when it returns in Obltus Casa.

Five Nights at Treasure Island[]

Hourglass acts as every enemy within the game, including The Face and Undying, as it can begin at every starting point that every enemy does. Depending on the path taken, it will also copy that enemy's behaviour. If it copies the path of Photo-Negative Mickey, Oswald or Impurity, it will be deterred by shutting off a camera. If it copies the path of Acephalous or Undying, it will be deterred by standing still. If it copies the path of The Face, it will be deterred by turning off the lights. It is only active on Night 6, serving as the final boss.

When the player runs out of power, Hourglass will kill the player the same way Photo-Negative Mickey does when the player runs out of power.

Whenever the player dies from Hourglass, the night will reset automatically, allowing the player to replay the final boss without returning to the menu.

Oblitus Casa[]

Between Night 1 to Night 4, Hourglass appears in the post-night sections, known as Tunnels, of Oblitus Casa. If the player sees Hourglass in the opening of a tunnel, the player must move forward a step before Hourglass can kill them, leading it to run away. However, there is a chance that Hourglass can be deterred simply by shining the lighter. As of the game's first patch, Hourglass isn't aggressive by default, only becoming aggressive once the player turns on the lighter.

Trivia[]

Hourglass along with Photo-Negative Mickey can jumpscare the player when the power goes out.
Its classic variant is a green humanoid with Mickey Mouse's face. Instead of being a hybird, it's a separate character.
The boss themes of Hourglass in the first game and MOTHER/MickMick in Oblitus Casa are of similar composition in that they both are designed around chipper synth strings slowed down into an ambient, foreboding drone, with additional ambient details added onto it.
The concept of Hourglass being a hybrid of other animatronics is likely inspired by Ennard from the mainline Five Nights at Freddy's games, although the character of Hourglass before it was established as a hybrid predates Ennard.
