What's the matter? Feeling hopeless again?
~ Inner Katsu.
GIVE UP AND DIE!
~ Inner Katsu telling Katsu to commit suicide, using Mika Aikawa’s voice.

Inner Katsu is a supporting antagonist in Crystallic's Starbound Trilogy, serving as a major antagonist in Starbound: The Black Nebula, and a minor antagonist in Starbound: Rise of the Stargazers. They are Katsu Umino's inner demon, formed by his anxiety and stress, and being bullied by Mika Aikawa. They are always making Katsu feel bad whenever possible, and seek to make him as miserable as possible, pushing him too far with toxic and unfair criticism. As of the second story, they have become much weaker. In the third story, they aren't seen at all, so it is safe to assume that they are gone for good.

Personality

As the personification of Katsu's anxiety and insecurities, Inner Katsu is often praying on Katsu whenever possible. They are very sadistic, and seem to enjoy the suffering they give to Katsu. They are never satisfied no matter what he does, and always focus on the negatives. They will often try to twist things and tell Katsu he's thinking things that aren't true, such as accusing him of only liking Tori for her looks, which clearly isn't true. They seem to have no standards at all, as they say that Mika is right about him, despite her heinous crimes, and don't ever show concern about her attempting omnicide, and instead focus on telling Katsu he's pathetic. When Katsu and Tori kiss at the end of the story, they are shocked that someone would love Katsu, and seem to have shut up after that.

Villainous Acts

  • They constantly torment Katsu, telling him he's worthless, not good enough, or other toxic criticism, driving him into anxiety and depression.
  • They have repeatedly told Katsu to commit suicide.
  • They are indirectly responsible for Katsu's performance as a protector getting worse due to the stress they put onto him.

Quotes

What's the matter? Feeling hopeless again?
~ Inner Katsu.
Oh I'm real alright! Just like every one of your pathetic failures... Just, come on! Lets just look! Remember the protectorate incident? You went to save Tori, but left... If you were good enough, you could have saved more.
~ Inner Katsu after Katsu tells him that he isn’t real.
YOU ARE JUST SO PATHETIC!!! AREN'T YOU? IT'S WHY NOBODY LIKES YOU! EVERYONE SEES YOU AS A FAILURE! YOU WILL NEVER UNITE PEACE, BECAUSE ALL YOU DO IS FAIL. YOU COULDN'T EVEN SAVE ONE FAMILY WITHOUT BEING INJURED! IT TOOK SO LONG, THAT YOU COULDN'T SAVE THOSE HOSTAGES! THEIR ALL DEAD, AND IT'S BECAUSE OF YOU... THIS ISN'T EVEN THE FIRST TIME! (Katsu: I'm sorry... I'm sorry... I'm sorry... *hyperventilating*) That isn't going to bring them back. Do the whole universe a favour, and do the only thing you can do... *suddenly sounds more like mika, as if this had been said before* GIVE UP AND DIE!
~ Inner Katsu screaming at Katsu.
You've gone and upset her... Wow, you can't even be a good friend.
~ Inner Katsu after Katsu starts expressing suicidal thoughts, which upsets Tori.
ALL. YOUR. FAULT.
~ Inner Katsu after Tori gets captured.
She's right, you know... You always were failure at your job... That's all you'll be. You ruin more then you save, and there's NOTHING you can-
~ Inner Katsu after Mika talks down to Katsu near the climax.
She... loves you...
~ Inner Katsu, in utter shock that Tori loved Katsu back.

Trivia

  • Inner Katsu was inspired by CrystallicWolf108's real life inner demons. He often suffers from them telling him that his stories aren't good enough, and often halting production as a result. Even when they are out, their demons still proceed to attack them, making Crystallic beilive his creations are never good enough. The same goes for Inner Katsu, who constantly torments Katsu, making him feel pathetic and worthless, and always telling him he's never good enough, even going as far as telling him to kill himself.
