“ | What a shame... You're bleeding. But, what am I meant to do about it? It's not my fault that this is what is happening to you. You walked straight in here, knocked on my door and... Boom. Was it all worth it, you think? No. You've heard all about me, but you were just too curious. I feel bad for you, honestly... Not. Why does remorse even exist in this world? Are you just here to see the pain I have caused? Heh.. WHY DON'T YOU TAKE A LONG LOOK, WILLIS! This... Is my life. I chose this... Like how the remaining members of my so-called family chose this too. Now, lend me your leg, and your suffering will, say... End. | „ |
~ Jake as he tortures someone he named Willis. |
Jake Jones Johnson, simply known as Jake the cannibal or Jake Johnson, is the main antagonist of the Indifference franchise. He is a psychotic cannibal who took pleasure upon devouring innocents. Due to this, he often became a favourite of his parents, who were just as bad as he was. He would then grow up into a more sadistic person as the years passed.
Somewhere in Photographic Evidence, he would go on to create himself a new body known as Twist, an amalgam of wires and electronic devices, with its head being the shape of a doll. In this state, it patrols the vecinity of the Johnson Household, attacking anybody on sight along with Polly.
In the sequel DLC, Photographic Evidence: Left Untold, Twist has assimilated multiple dolls and wires, merging them into it, and thus becoming the Expansion. As this behemoth, Jake has presumably lost every single bit of sapience, and remains dormant in the basement.
History[]
The year is 1989, and two bloodthursty parents gave birth to Jake Johnson. When he was 4 years old, they decided to leave him to his own attends with the family cat, only to realise that the blood of the cat had not only stained the sofa and carpet, but it had stained Jake himself, who ate the cat. Pleased, they decided to give him a good childhood.
It wasn't until 10 years of age that Jake had gained Psychosis, a term used for people who have issues controlling their behaviour, plus lashing out. This sign was shown when Jake had brutally killed his mother and father for seemingly no apparent reason. As he began to call out for his sister, he found the police knocking at the Johnson household.
During that time, Jake was taken to an undisclosed asylum.
During his time at the asylum, he began to create plans on how to escape Solitary Confinement. Luckily, hostile forces had raided the area just after he had been there for 5 days. After he and 3 remaining patients and 2 hostile forces escaped, instead of leaving immediately, Jake brutally attacked the three patients and mortally wounded the hostile forces, therefore betraying them. What happened during the patient attack was two patients dying of blood loss and one being scarred by this incident.
He would go on to be captured at least several times by many asylums, prisons and facilities (including containment facilities). All which led to inevitable escapes. This resulted in an attack of Jake that was so brutal and terrifying, that prison had to be closed down due to low budget and unnafordable fixable damage.
As he returns home, he seems very disgusted upon seeing his sister. Even claiming that he "should have stayed imprisoned" upon seeing her. He then finds her sister's boyfriend which he named Willis. When his sister tried to explain his real name, he ends up cutting her off three times. Therefore, the boyfriend's real name remained unknown.
He then takes "Willis" to the basement and into a secret room, where he begins to peel off the skin off of the boyfriend's right leg. After his monolouge finishes, he proceeds to eat his leg off, chewing it and preparing a "burger" with them.
Making his sister unaware of the murder, he offers him a slice of his "burger", which she agrees to, unaware of what Jake had just done. Thankfully, no murders happened after that until the next day. While Jake's sister was visiting the basement, she noticed a bunch of photos relating to Jake's dark string of murders, including brutal attacks. The first photo showed Jake taking a photo of his cousin, Patches, with a broken nose. That incident was made by Jake himself for seemingly no reason other than "He loved it", as seen as the photo has a word saying "Loved it!".
The next photo showed Jake at the same prison he managed to close down. It was a photo showing Jake posing as the prison becomes nothing but shambles. The word on that photo says "Best. Day. Ever!". Just before his sister could call the cops again, Jake appears behind her and breaks her jaw. This caused severe damage before he begins to feast on the liver of his sister. Later on, he chucks her body into the secret room, presumably to eat her remains.
It was later revealed that his sister fell to the dark side after that incident, only for her to start a grey-zoned cause.
Jake would later go to the attic to summon his family members to haunt the house he was living in. Once he had completed it, his family members would go on to cause even more havoc within the house. Jake, instead, leaves the house for some time.
He then returns to his home, only to find out that a photographer had been strolling inside of his house. After a long chase, the photographer leads both Jake, his parents and his sister into the basement as he locks the door. Jake then begins to give a speech, explaining that the photographer shouldn't have been "too nosy". Just before he could kill him, however; Patches plays his final recording, revealing that he lured the photographer in there to finally put an end to Jake's parents' torment (As well as Jake's himself) as he sets the entire house ablaze, killing the photographer, himself, and the Johnson family.
Jake was never to be seen again after this incident, nor was anyone else involved. However, it is a possibility that he may be dead, as Jake's remains were not seen again after the fire, nor were anyone elses. The other possibility is that Jake may have survived, as his body wasn't found at all. Either way; Jake was never seen again.
Photographic Evidence[]
“ | Okay, at this rate, it's pretty obvious that this thing has no intention on calming down anymore. | „ |
~ the protagonist(s) about Jake's new personality. |
Jake Johnson returns as one of the two main antagonists of Photographic Evidence, the sequel of the events of Drawland's states, alongside his sister (known as Polly in-game). In this game, Jake seems to have taken on the role of a bunch of mechanical remains that could shapeshift into a doll-like abomination known as Twist. In this game, Jake seemed to have grown an attachment to his sister, as he no longer seems aggetated by her appearance anymore, even affectionately referring to her as "sis" during the game.
As Twist, Jake appears when Director Leonard is seen lying on the floor in the garden, tied up by Twist's wires (presumed to be barb wires by the protagonist(s) at first). Before Director Leonard could say anything however, Twist jumps off the house and rips Leonard to shreds, screeching in the progress, before looking towards the protagonist(s), a sign that they are next. Once locked inside of the Shed, Twist will peep in once more before assuming that no one is there, screeching as it dashes off into the household.
As shown in the basement, Twist had assimilated Patches out of spite, merging the doll's remains into its new body. This explains why Twist has a doll-shaped head.
In the middle of the game, both Twist and Polly will appear before the protagonist(s) outside the household, to which Polly will call out Jake once more, even exchanging a slight bit of dialogue before the battle.
“ | It's... Okay. I forgive you, director. I forgive all of you, in fact. | „ |
~ Jake's redemption and last words before sacrificing himself, supposedly killing him in the process. |
With its patience thinning, Twist uses its wires to drain the protagonist(s)' health bar before electrocuting them with said wires. During that time, in the Boiler Room, the boiler lid opens as both Twist and Polly begin to carry the protagonist(s) in wheeled pots (designed by Twist itself), only for the two to be halted by the spirit of his parents, who have now essentially redeemed themselves. With its patience wearing thin, the two start shoving the pots back and forth before Patches' soul comes in and revives all of them.
As unexpected as it was (to which even another protagonist photos themselves), it was mentioned that Jake was revealed to be operating Twist, with Polly being operated by his sister. Director Leonard, now as a spirit, takes the time to apologize to Jake's spirit for the "torment" he had been through, even acknowledging that his psychosis got out of hand. Twist tells Director Leonard that it is okay, and that he forgives all the humans for his grievance. Knowing that the pots are about to fall off, Twist runs over and helps push it backwards, killing itself in the process.
Photographic Evidence: Left Untold[]
“ | Jake... What the hell did you do to yourself?.. | „ |
~ The (or a) Protagonist upon seeing Jake's new body. |
Twist had survived being burnt alive by the boiler, and somehow managed to bring itself back together by assimilating everything it comes across. The boiler had also apparently burst as Twist came out, alerting every doll in the vecinity. Twist, as mentioned above, had assimilated the dolls and even merged some wires into itself too, becoming the Expansion, a giant mass of wires and dolls.
For the True/Secret Ending, the protagonist(s) encounter the Expansion, posing little of a threat unless the protagonist(s) end up bumping into it, causing it to believe it's a sign of hostility. If the protagonist(s) don't run into it, however, it will instead show a hole where the boiler had burst. Falling down it, the protagonist(s) find the Warped Reality, and a fight with Anxiety ensues.
The Expansion poses little of a threat here, although it can be a nuisance in the Protagonist(s)' plans to cast Anxiety back into the nothingness, with its constant obstacles barring the way. Upon defeating Anxiety, the player must escape being chased by the entity. Upon nearing the end, the Expansion's main head smash through the ceiling, and into Anxiety, holding it in place, so the two of them die together, presumably for good. The Expansion winks at the player before the Warped Reality begins to crumble, putting an end to the misery, and freeing the trapped souls within the house, including Jake's.
Freed, Jake - instead of moving on to the afterlife - inhabits the spare doll found inside his bedroom, waving at the protagonist(s) as they leave. It's unknown what he does after this, but it's presumed that he will start a better life.

Appearance[]
Jake Johnson is a young man in his 20's or so. He has spiky blonde hair, red eyes and fair skin. His natural outfit often includes a tuxedo with a bowtie, a pair of dark grey trousers and black shoes. During his time in prisons, he often wore a mouth guard and a straight jacket.
As a cyborg, half of his face is completely obliterated, with one half having a cybernetic skull and red eye. His right arm and legs are completely mechanicalized with his torso having a battery sign in the middle.
As Twist, it is considerably larger than its normal forms. It is an endoskeleton the same height as Patches, nearly 16-feet tall, with multiple buttons sticking out of its three doll legs which had merged with his body, its chest and two on its head. In the middle of its chest lies "ribs" which are guarding a certain Core. Its back was hunched over for the most part, revealing five sets of small pipes. One empty eye socket was burning bright blue, and the amalgamation is shown to be in humanoid shape. The wires seem to be covering up its merged arms and legs, leaving a tangled mess when it was reformed into Twist. Hard to notice at first, but it also has a set of mechanical horns which curl backwards, though they are most noticeable with their blue outlines.
As the Expansion, its body becomes much more complicated. Remains of Polly, Patches, and various other dolls are seen poking out of it. Its entire body seems to touch the very top of the Boiler Room as well. Twist's head is now rusting, with reddish orange eyes glowing out of its eye sockets; a contrast to its original state. One of its horns seems to have broken off, and it possesses a multitude of different arms and appendages.
Personality[]
Jake Johnson was a bloodthirsty, arrogant, sadistic and vile person who had absolutely no care for anyone, even eating his parents which resulted in his parents becoming much, much worse than they were. Often at times, he showed a depraved side of him, where he continuously mocks the boyfriend (Willis) about remorse, which also shows that he was a remorseless killer with no respect for anyone.
His personality remains the same as a cyborg, but with a more destructive side of himself.
As Twist, however, it shows a more warming side towards its sister, Polly. While destructive, it was also immensely cowardly and weak, with its Core (soul) just barely hanging onto reality, as the protagonist(s) could feel within. Near the end of the game, Jake has shown to be more passive and forgiving, abandoning his previous life and sacrificing his life to save the protagonist(s) of the game.
As the Expansion, however, instead of its heartwarming side, its mind has simply been reduced to that of a mindless monstrosity, assimilating anything it sees as threatening. It makes various, deep, mechanical groaning noise, suggesting that the Expansion is in constant pain. Regardless, it seems to still hold a soft spot for the protagonist(s), recognizing them and holding off Anxiety just to let them escape.

Trivia[]
- He is confermed to be at least 20 or so.
- When questioned if Jake is still alive, the creator simply replied with "The devil can't even keep him in hell for long".
- Even disregarding these, he is considerably weaker and much more cowardly than his original state, even in terms of power. Especially given that he prefers to let his sister do half the work before heading into battle, waiting for the protagonist(s) to be at a low level of health to get the final blow.
- He symbolizes the many things that you should never do as a human being.
- Randomly enough, Jake, as Twist, is one of the dolls alongside Polly and Patches that are made out of a certain material commonly found in androids and dolls (e.g. Metal, plastic and yarn).
