James Mason is a character in the Hearts of Iron 4 mod The Fire Rises. He is a Sadistic American Neo Nazi who is an ideologue for the Atomwaffen Division, and potentially a leader for the Neo-Nazi Faction in the Second American Civil War that seeks to bring about a nuclear apocalypse to "cleanse" the world of "non-Aryans."
He is a major antagonist of the United States storyline, and can become a potential Villainous Protagonist if the player chooses to play as the Atomwaffen Division.

James Mason is introduced not long after the game starts, being mentioned within events involving the Atomwaffen Division prior to the start of the Second American Civil War. It isn’t until the start of the civil war that Mason plays a role for the conflict. His first appearance is when Mason is watching television in his Phoenix motel, pleased with the devastation in Tampa that was shown on the news prompting him to return to the Atomwaffen Division in Florida.
Should the Atomwaffen Division reunify Florida, James Mason would make a return to Florida and replace Brandon Russell as leader of the Faction, consolidating the command of the Division. After reunifying the region, the Player would then have the option to invade Georgia and the rest of the south-east of the United States, Along with sorting out the decisions between the Satanists, Christians, or Accelerationists.
Should the player embrace the Accelerationists, Mason would empower the Revolutionary and futurist wave of Nazism, and reinforcing the status quo that maintains balance between the Satanists and Christians. The path also allows the player to set up the tools of the Apocalypse that grants the player the option to use Nuclear weapons.
Should the player embrace the Christians, Mason would embrace a more Fundamentalist principle in guiding the Atomwaffen division, adding Christian elements to the ideology and empowering the Christians against the Satanists, while sticking with the status quo of the Neo-Nazi Ideology.
Should the player embrace the Satanists, Mason would empower the Satanists side on the game of balance, along with increasing the amount of Violence and cleansing within the Atomwaffen Division’s territory, such as burning down churchs and increasing the amount of repression and Genocide held within the territory.
Although the Atomwaffen division can align with other Far-Right factions within the American Civil War such as the National Socialist Movement in Michigan, and the Patriot Front in New England. James Mason has the potential to backstab the alliance and eliminate his fellow far-right allies, increasing the killing fields and bringing in more radicals into the party.
Should the Atomwaffen Division go to war against either the Union of America or the American Constitutional Government, the player would have the option to burn the cities and target homelands within the factions, adding in the amount of horror utilized within the Atomwaffen’s reign of terror in the United States.
Should the Atomwaffen Division go to war against the American People's Liberation Army. Mason would include some lessons from the Khmer Rouge and Mao Zedong for the ideology, such as taking upon the purification used under Pol Pot and Mao Zedong's tactics for the Military of human wave offensives when determining the unification of the United States.
Throughout the ongoing civil war, should the player choose the focus 'Conquest.' for its military focus tree. Then the Atomwaffen Divison would focus more on building a stockpile of Nuclear Weapons or recovering what Nuclear weapons were left behind throughout the civil war. Thus allowing the player to have the option to use nuclear weapons in the Civil War which can result in adding more devastation to the Civil War. Along with creating strains with fellow members of the National Front, raising the suspicious level.
Should the Atomwaffen Division under Mason reunify the United States, then a Global United Nations coalition would be created and declare war on the newly reunified USA under Mason, aiming to crush the Nation before they could utilize a Nuclear Hellfire.
