Jasper Smithson is a minor antagonist of the TV series Wayne. He is a major antagonist of the first two episodes of the series and a supporting protagonist in the second season's 9th episode, just before the finale. He is the series' precusor and harbinger for The Joker from the DC comics, who merely acted like him until the real prince of crime was revealed to be his friend from school, Judah Voleski.
He is portrayed by Robert Pattinson.
History[]
He was a young adult who was suffering from his parents and was married with Harlene Quinzell. However, it all changed when Jasper started hallucinating an imaginary friend called The Joker, which told him to kill his parents. Bruce Wayne came to investigate the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne at his house, and asked him if he knows anything about it. Jasper replied that he doesn't. After Bruce left the scene, telling him to keep himself safe, he started hallucinating The Joker one more time. His father, Clifford Smithson entered the scene, and asked his son Jasper if he was imagining his friend again. Jasper replied that he has been imagining. Clifford started thinking that it was an excuse to get married to Harlene. As Clifford attempted to throw a knife at Jasper for his betrayal, Jasper escaped the knife and awakened his inner Proto-Joker persona, thus stabbing Clifford in the heart. Clifford in his last breathe explained to Jasper that his own parents, or Jasper's grandparents, were killed by Hugo Strange and that Harlene works for him. Jasper however disagrees, and reveals that he takes pleasure of killing Clifford, because it makes him happier. Jasper then removes the knife from Clifford's heart, telling the dead man to say hello to his grandparents. Jasper then kills his own mother and continues to The Arkham Asylum, where he meets Harlene and Hugo Strange.
He asks Hugo to kill Bruce Wayne. Hugo disagrees, and orders Harlene to shoot her husband. Harlene however shoots Hugo instead, and Hugo surrenders to Jasper, thus taking his orders. Jasper and Harlene later hide inside a car, and await for Bruce and Selina to arrive. Hugo tries to kill Bruce and Selina, but he is killed by Jasper and Harlene. Bruce and Selina are abducted by Jasper and are taken by him and Harlene to a lab with an acid bath inside it, so Jasper could use Bruce and Selina as test subjects. However, Jasper is pushed by Selina into the acid bath.
He later captured Mayor Aubrey James and infected him with laughing gas. He sent Aubrey as a distraction and target for Batman with the order to terrorize the students of the South Gotham High School. He and Harlene then went to steal munitions and they loaded it all on a train, which they caught in order to get to the high school, with intent to capture one of the highschool teachers, Judah Voleski. Harlene on the way however called Jasper by the name of his hillucination's figure; The Joker. Jasper insisted that he is not The Joker and that it's just all in his imaginations, but that name is not real. He and Harlene then captured Judah while Batman was fighting with Aubrey. Aubrey was sent to rehabilitation at Arkham. However, Jasper was in anoher room at Arkham with Harlene, who kept Judah as a hostage but in secret she plotted to kill Jasper for Judah. Jasper then ordered Harlene to shoot at Judah gas from the RPG gun which he filled with lauging gas instead of ammo. However, Harlene revealed that she has refilled the gun with ammo without him even noticing, just before she shot Jasper and killed him, as she also teased him by calling him the pokester which was another hint for The Joker. In his last breathe, Jasper implied that he is not The Joker. After that, Harlene and Judah reunited and during the aftermath it was revealed that Judah planned to kill Jasper in order to inherit the name of "The Joker".
