Joseph "Joey" Drew, later known as Bendy or The Ink Demon is the overarching antagonist of the Stupendium's Bendy and the Ink Machine songs.
He is the head of Joey Drew Studios who, in his obsession with creating art and becoming immortal, would begin experimenting on his own employees, turning them into horrific ink monsters before eventually doing the same to himself, becoming the Ink Demon lurking within his own stuidio, attempting to hunt down his old business partner, Henry Stein.
He was portrayed by The Stupdendium themselves, Greg Holgate.
Personality[]
As seen in both "Find The Keys" and the beginning of "Art Of Darkness", Joey is shown to be an egotistical, irritable man who cares little for his employees, happily experimenting on them and using their body parts to create ink creatures all for the sake of the art. "Art Of Darkness" also shows off his obsession with the idea of immortality, saying that with enough belief, you could achieve death itself, hinting at his ultimate fate within the music videos.
Biography[]
Background[]
Not much is known about Joey's background, all that we see is that he would end up creating Joey Drew Studios where he would hire employees to help make his cartoons, before eventually descending into madness with "cheating death itself" and turning them all into horrific ink creatures. Ultimately, in the end, Joey turned himself into a version of Bendy, with his transformation eventually turning an unsucsessful attept, resulting in a satanic abomination known as Ink Demon.
Find The Keys[]
Joey makes his first appearance in "Find The Keys", while it's not explicitly said, it can be assumed that, similar to canon, Joey invited Henry to come see his old workshop, an invite which the latter would end up accepting.
Throughout the song, Joey, now the Ink Demon, makes multiple appearances, attempting to hunt down Henry and even attacking the viewer at one point. He would even sing his own verse later in the song where he would sadistically reveal his experiments and how he's been "using pieces of carcass" to create his masterpieces.
Art Of Darkness[]
Joey makes his first direct appearance at the beginning of the music video where he is seen sitting at his desk, speaking to the viewer about his cartoons. Throughout the intro sequence, the tape will abruptly cut through various segments, including those showing off parts of his true character. In one of the cuts, the shadow of the Ink Demon is shown looming over Joey, with the second time showing Joey bleeding ink from his eyes, all but explicitly confirming his true identity as the Ink Demon. The tape ultimately ends with a snippet from Joey's infamous "cheat death itself" speech.
Since the song takes the events of the game into an account, he manipulated and killed the infamous Susie Campbell, turning her into a twisted version of Alice Angel, who serves a major antagonistic role in the song itself.
During the song itself, Joey, as the Ink Demon, makes several sporadic appearances, including being seen on a TV screen briefly and at the very end of the music video where the throne from Chapter 5 is briefly shown, the Ink Demon's shadow looming overhead.
What exactly happens to Joey after this is unknown, but if it's anything like the games, then he would ultimately end up being killed by Henry.
Trivia[]
- It's unknown whether or not the Stupendium's version of BatIM takes place in The Cycle, but if it's anything like the games, then Joey will eventually torture Henry for all eternity.
- The events of Bendy and the Dark Revival do not (and probably will not) happen in the Stupendium's adaptation of this universe, so this version of Joey has no artificial daughter, and thus, no redemption arc in general.
- In the official merchandise, Joey wears glasses and, besides sideburns and moustache, also has a little beard. In the Art of Darkness music video, however, these details are absent.
