Well... That was pretty easy. [...] Y'know what I said, the day I got unbanned from the Dream SMP? And the day I said I was running? An election that I won, by the way... I said things are gonna change. I looked every citizen of L'Manburg in the eyes and I said "You listen to me... This place will be a lot different tomorrow." Let's start making it happen. My first decree, as the President of L'Manburg... The EMPEROR, of this GREAT COUNTRY! IS TO REVOKE!! THE CITIZENSHIP OF WILBUR SOOT AND TOMMYINNIT! GET 'EM OUTTA HERE!
~ Jschlatt's infamous inauguration speech after being inaugurated as L'Manberg's president as he banishes WilburSoot and TommyInnit from L'Manberg.

Jschlatt, also known as simply Schlatt and later his ghost form Glatt, is a major antagonist in the Minecraft web series Dream SMP, and the main antagonist of "The Haunted Mansion", an episode of it's spin-off web series Tales from the SMP.

He appears as the one of the two main antagonists (alongside Dream) of Season 1, a posthumous antagonist in Season 2 and 4, and one of the three overarching antagonists (alongside Dream and Egg) of Season 3, specifically as such to the "Las Nevadas" storyline.

He was temporarily the president and self-proclaimed emperor of the state of L'Manberg (known as simply Manberg under his rule). Initially introduced to endorse POG2020 during the L'Manbergian Elections, he took advantage of his role to announce that he would be running for president himself, eventually going on to win, with the help of Quackity.

Upon his rise to power, he established a tyrannical regime over Manberg, hell-bent on wiping out any and all opposition and rebellion against him, quickly making him a hated figure by his enemies and the people under his rule. He would eventually be defeated and die of a heart attack or a stroke in the Manberg-Pogtopia War. However, months later, he returned as the ghost Glatt, seeking to make Quackity get the necromancy book that would resurrect him. He is the arch nemesis of Wilbur Soot.

He is portrayed by the YouTuber of the same name.

Personality[]

Do you know what happens to traitors, Tubbo? (...) Nothing good.
~ Jschlatt after finding Tubbo out.

On the surface, Schlatt is a charismatic leader who has managed to sway multiple people to his side. He is also rather clever and manipulative, being able to keep his cards close to his chest, and is a savvy businessman to boot. On the flip side, Schlatt is very controlling and prefers to consolidate all power onto himself. He also seems to hold beliefs of toxic masculinity, as seen from his obsession with working out, belief that crying is a sign of weakness, and refusal to associate himself with "low-T, soy-boy beta males".

However, Schlatt regularly engages in substance abuse, most notably alcohol, but also tobacco and anabolic steroids, and it has been suggested that this habit of substance abuse has impaired his judgement during his tenure as President on multiple levels.

Appearance[]

Jschlatt appears in the form of his Minecraft skin: he is a human with rough light skin, brown hair, and a thick brown beard, and wears a black formal suit with a white undershirt and red tie. He is also depicted with a white goat head with large horns, referencing his YouTube channel icon. He has been described as a humanoid outside the series.

In fan interpretations, Schlatt is often drawn as a brown-haired, bearded man with ram horns and ears as a 'ram hybrid', combining his Minecraft skin and his channel icon.

History[]

Background[]

Before the events of the Manberg Rebellion arc, Jschlatt was first introduced visiting the server early in the SMP series. However, after his visit, he was kicked from the server by Dream because he didn't know him that much.

L'Manberg Elections Arc[]

Jschlatt made his return during the elections for the new president of L'Manberg, following it's recent declaration of independence. He was brought in to endorse Wilbur Soot and his POG2020 campaign. Schlatt arrived to the server in a confused and drunken state, and eventually made it to L'Manberg. However, during his speech, he drunkenly rants about how democracy is overrated, much to everyone's shock and confusion, before announcing that he himself will run for president, disregarding the reason as to why he was brought onto the server. As he announced his candidacy and accidentally read out the endorsement for COCONUT2020, Wilbur and his running mate TommyInnit forced Schlatt off the stage as he repeatedly cried out that he'd return. Schlatt then recovered a crossbow and chased Wilbur, Tommy and Quackity, attempting to murder them while stating his intent to run as president, forcing the three to retreat.

Seeing that Schlatt had not only announced his candidacy, but that Dream, the most powerful person on the server, was endorsing him, Wilbur suggested to Quackity that they should pool their votes together to form a new party if Schlatt or COCONUT2020 win. However, Quackity, believing that he was being manipulated and disliking the conditional nature of the proposal, went behind their backs and decided to instead pool his votes towards SCHLATT2020 to create SchWAG2020.

Two days after, the total votes for Schlatt's party was revealed by Wilbur, revealing that he came in 3rd place with 16% of the votes. Although Wilbur had announced that POG2020 had won with the majority vote, Wilbur somberly revealed that Quackity had pooled his votes with Schlatt, making it so that POG2020 had 45% of the votes, whereas SchWAG2020 had 46% of the votes, allowing Schlatt to narrowly win by 1% of the popular vote, after which Schlatt was made president and Quackity and GeorgeNotFound were made Schlatt's vice presidents. Before his inauguration, Schlatt coldly told Tommy to leave the stage immediately, and he sat with with the rest of L'Manberg's residents. At his inauguration ceremony, Schlatt declared that he'd make L'manberg new. Schlatt revealed that his first decree as L'Manberg's "emperor" was to revoke Tommy and Wilbur's citizenship, banishing them from L'Manberg as Ponk and Punz chased them down. Wilbur was killed by Punz, and Tommy managed to escape as Schlatt's speech continued, promising to change L'Manberg for the better and enable it to introduce a new era of prosperity. Schlatt then brought Tubbo to the stage, declaring him as L'Manberg's new secretary of state. Tommy and Wilbur watched from a tower, as Schlatt announced that Tubbo was now tasked with locating Tommy and Wilbur as he noticed them on top of the tower. Tommy and Wilbur escaped to an area on the outskirts of L'Manberg.

After Tommy and Wilbur had fled, Schlatt announced his second speech, stating that he was preparing to tear down L'Manberg's walls and expand the country further, and that every citizen would assisting in the task, and renamed L'Manberg to Manberg, claiming that there should be no "L"s (or losers) to "such a wonderful nation" and the original name sounded too European for him.

Manberg Rebellion Arc[]

With his rule that officiated, Schlatt's starting decrees were to raise Niki's taxes, build an apartment block near the remnants of the Camarvan, ensure that every citizen wears tail and that all lakes should be drained and any livestock and wildlife should be killed. Eventually, Schlatt had Niki temporarily imprisoned for standing up against him and began to argue with Quackity over their power dynamic. Unknown to Schlatt, Tubbo, Fundy and several other citizens were conspiring against him, and Schlatt soon became suspicious of Tubbo, specifically about where he'd keep disappearing to, correctly assuming that he'd been working with Pogtopia, Wilbur and Tommy's new nation.

Schlatt was soon met by Tommy and Wilbur, who successfully managed to convince Schlatt to allow them access to Manberg for a day so they could give Ninja a tour. Schlatt agreed, but briefly argued with Tommy over his foul language, with the later commenting how Schlatt and BadBoyHalo would get along.

As President/Emperor of Manberg, Schlatt mistreated most of the people in his cabinet (with George being the only one to escape this fate, being mostly absent), from looking upon them as overglorified servants to paying them less than a minimum wage. Judging by the aforementioned cabinet members' actions later in the series, this has presumably caused a lot of trauma for them.

During this time period, internal conflict started to develop between Schlatt and Quackity, his Vice President and romantic partner, as his attempts to centralize all state power onto himself as a tyrannical dictator figure clashed with Quackity's attempts to have equal power with Schlatt. As Schlatt sometimes called Quackity a "Flatty Patty" and repeatedly violated his boundary, among other things, their relationship status started to fluctuate, occasionally getting along well, while sometimes becoming arguably abusive.

Manberg Festival[]

One day, Schlatt called for a meeting in order to announce that Manberg would be having a festival in the name of democracy. He placed Tubbo in charge of the planning, trusting him to set the whole event up and giving him the role of a key speaker. His initial intentions with the festival were unclear to most, since Schlatt has always been vocally against democracy.

The Festival began smoothly, and Schlatt oversaw the events in a good mood. However, his true intentions became clear once Tubbo's speech drew to a close. Schlatt enclosed him in yellow concrete, revealing that he knew about Tubbo's work with Pogtopia and his conspiring against Manberg. He sentenced him to immediate execution, making it clear that the festival was never intended to be a festival at all, but a public punishment of a traitor to the state. Schlatt ordered Technoblade to perform the execution, pressuring him into using his rocket launcher to kill Tubbo. Quackity attempted to protest against Schlatt's order, saying that imprisoning Tubbo was enough, to which Schlatt replied that it was "not enough" and insisted that the teenager in question be publicly executed. Through splash damage, the ensuing explosions from the fireworks killed not just Tubbo, but Schlatt (canonically) and Quackity (non-canonically) as well.

After Techno fired multiple shots into the crowd witnessing the execution, killing about half of them non-canonically, and fleeing from Manberg, Schlatt and Quackity reclaimed their positions on the podium with Fundy joining them in Tubbo's empty space. When Wilbur arrived for a confrontation, Schlatt did not care for his theatrics, waving him away and referring to him condescendingly as "lover boy". As fighting broke out among the citizens, Schlatt took a step back.

Once it was over, he ordered the citizens to come back to their seats in order for him to make another speech. Niki started to speak up against him, but he shut her down by exiling her. He then asked for arrows in order to shoot her and have her executed, but forgot that Tubbo was dead and so he had nobody to give him them. He turned to Quackity to ask him, but the confusion gave Niki enough time to escape. Schlatt then insulted Niki and Tubbo saying he was glad the Festival ended in death and ruins, causing some conflict between him and the others. Said conflict from the Festival caused BadBoyHalo, Awesamdude, and Antfrost to officially form the Badlands faction, and Fundy to reaffirm his stance as a spy against Manberg when he had previously doubted it.

When Schlatt shared his new policy after the Festival, with one of the projects including the dismantling of the White House, Quackity rallied against its destruction, but Schlatt stated that he would press forward with the plan later on.

Fallout of the Manberg Festival[]

The day after the Manberg Festival, Schlatt started to carry out his new policies and began tearing down the White House in front of Quackity, to his protests. This eventually dissolved into an argument where Quackity called Schlatt out on not giving him equal power and refusing to acknowledge his accomplishments, while Schlatt repeatedly insulted and belittled Quackity in return. This ultimately ended with Quackity angrily resigning from his position as Vice President and assassinating Schlatt after being taunted by him, taking his second canon life in the process.

Several weeks later, Schlatt agreed to meet Quackity to discuss the building of the Manberg Hotel. In actuality, the discussion was a part of "Plan Ass", an attempt for Quackity to secretly transferring all presidential power from Schlatt to him, thus securing Pogtopian control over Manberg once again, as the alternative to Wilbur's "Plan Bomb" to detonate Manberg. However, Schlatt saw through this plan and changed the topic of the contract to the TNT he had found under Manberg (placed by Wilbur for "Plan Bomb") and accused Quackity for the TNT, claiming that Quackity hated Manberg and wanted to take Schlatt down with Manberg. He then proceeded to wound Quackity, but Wilbur had obtained an arrow of invisibility from Ponk that would allow Quackity to escape into the forest behind Manberg undetected. Deep in the forest, Schlatt caught up with Quackity and Tommy, the latter of whom was witnessing the event from afar. Schlatt coughed and laughed as he said that the TNT was no longer under Manberg, but under Pogtopia. This was later revealed to be a lie, but the claim left the Pogtopians in a newfound state of discord and panic.

Manberg-Pogtopia War and Death[]

Before the war, Dream betrayed Pogtopia and allied with Schlatt and Manberg, in return for a mysterious book which he claimed to hold incredible power. During the Disc War Finale, Dream used this book to negotiate into imprisonment, revealing that this book contained the knowledge of how to revive dead members of the SMP. It is not known how Schlatt came into ownership of this book, but the only ones who knew of this knowledge are Schlatt and Dream.

During the war, Schlatt did not appear on the battlefield at all. After Dream and the rest of the Manbergian forces surrendered to Pogtopia, the members of the server involved in the conflict found Schlatt drinking heavily while lifting weights in the Camarvan. Schlatt spent the last minutes of his life arguing with Fundy and Quackity and hitting them with a broken bottle, dismayed by their betrayal - shocked at Fundy revealing his true allegiance, and then continuing to insult Quackity. He then mentioned smelling toast and attacked Fundy, but he soon suffered a fatal heart attack due to his drug use and ailing health, killing him and ending his reign of terror for good.

Trivia[]

  • Jschlatt is the first Dream SMP character to lose all three lives. He was then followed by Wilbur Soot, Mexican Dream, Jack Manifold, TommyInnit and Ghostbur. However, all of them, except Ghostbur, came back in some way:
    • Jack and Tommy were both revived (Jack from sheer anger and Tommy was revived by Dream).
    • Jschlatt and Wilbur came back as Glatt and Ghostbur. Later on, Wilbur was resurrected as his human self, effectively killing Ghostbur. However, Glatt also has revealed that he is making plans for his own revival in the future.
    • Mexican Dream came back as a unnamed ghost who didn't look like Ghostbur or Glatt. However, compared to the rest, he doesn't do much.
  • Despite appearing only once in Season 4, he might get a larger role later.
  • This is not his only villainous/antagonistic role he appeared in, he is also the main antagonist in Slimecicle's charity video: Minecraft, but every 5 minutes there's a natural disaster - YouTube, appearing as the controller of the natural disasters.
