Governor Jules Archibald is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside The Undertaker) of the 2023 YouTube movie Emesis Blue.

He is the corrupt governor of New Mexico and the head of The Jules Archibald Foundation who has aided and prolonged both of the Mann brothers in their war against one another for profit while conducting experiments on death row prisoners. He faked getting kidnapped in order to avoid a legal investigation and trial from the authorities, but this plan backfired when he gets killed by his former right-hand man.

He is voiced by David Love who also voiced Blutarch Mann.

History[]

Background[]

Jules Archibald was the head of his own company called The Jules Archibald Foundation. During the 1960 elections, he meets Blutarch Mann and invested in his company, BLU.

Archibald began conducting experiments on death row prisoners to perfect his Respawn Machine, which would be the key contraption in extending the ever bitter war between RED and BLU. While 90 percent of the subjects died from the experiments, only 10 mercenaries end up being compatible with the machine. This would end up becoming nine when one of the subjects shoots himself. Archibald has also made deals with Blutarch's brother and rival, Redmond Mann. He also hires a detective named Jacques Murnau to serve as his personal hitman and bodyguard, having him kill any dissenters and reward him with anything he desires, such as a new car.

It was later revealed through a conversation between him and Goldman is that he was initially taking advantage of Redmond and Blutarch's conflicting war as a way to seek profit through harvesting the organs of the dead mercenaries on the battlefield and sold it it to gain money in the past.

Towards the events of Emesis Blue, Jules' relationship with the Mann brothers have become strained, and that the authorities are conducting an investigation on his activities.

Emesis Blue[]

On Halloween 1968, mere weeks away from election day, Archibald was kidnapped and taken to the Conagher Slaughterhouse before being locked in one of the cells. He was eventually rescued by Jane Doe and makes his escape. He uses a pay phone to call Goldman, an associate of him, where it was revealed that he was never ever kidnapped, and that he had faked it all along to avoid trouble with the law. Unbeknownst to him, his former assistant was listening in via camera. Jules was about to tell Goldman about his suspicion on the BLU Valium, but the pay phone cuts the line and requires an extra nickel in order for the call to continue.

Jules then tries to get a nickel from a nearby vending machine, but he drops it and it rolls under a garage door. He then lifts open the door and is in shock in what he behind it, resulting in him promptly looking for a way out (it is later revealed by Jane Doe that it was a massive pitfall of thousands of bodies, with a hellish red glow emitting from the bottom). Jules soon chances upon Murnau, giving him a sense of relief at first, but soon dissipates into fear as he sees the horrible burns on his henchmen's body and realizes he isn’t there to save him. Murnau no longer held loyalty for the corrupt governor, having learnt that he was in no real danger all along and that all the trouble he went through was all for nothing. He grows increasingly angry with Jules, who tries to reason that he gave him everything he had wanted, to which Murnau replies that he was now "giving him what he deserved" and shoots the official dead in the head. After that he dragged his body into a chair.

Following this, Murnau would frame Ludwig for the murder of Jules and attempt a hostile takeover of the company at the funeral, but it fails as the revived doctor pops out of the coffin and shoots him dead.

Personality[]

On the surface, Jules Archibald seems to be an innocent, wealthy and influential man, being the founder of a big company and a significant amount of charisma, with Blutarch remarking him as a powerful public speaker, going on and on and "how do we get rid of this son of a bitch".

Beneath this layer however, is a corrupt man greedy for money and power. He conducted unethical experiments with death row prisoners with the Respawn Machine of 90% would perish (despite claiming towards Goldman that tried his best to operate in the most human way possible). Only ten would only survive, but one committed suicide and hence only nine remain. The remaining test subjects and the Respawn Machine were then sold to RED and BLU which would prolong the brothers' war for years to come. He would go on and hire one of the clones to be his personal hitman to kill any treasonous members, preventing the truth from being spilled. He hid all of his secrets inside the Conagher Slaughterhouse, where he disappeared to when authorities began cracking down on him. This plan failed, and Jules is killed by his former assistant who sacrificed everything for nothing when he found out Jules had faked getting kidnapped.

He does not have a TF2 counterpart, but he is believed to be the Emesis Blue equivalent of the Administrator.
- His model is the scrapped Civilian class from TF2 which would be used for Team Fortress 2 Classic.
Blutarch Mann said that he was 58 years old. Meaning he would have been born in 1910 as of the film's events.
His name is (possibly) a reference to Julius and Archibald.
