You see, what I found out some time ago was that her blood carries the same traits as her Quirk. Through careful research, I have been able to use her blood to rewind the body's evolutionary timer to where there were no Quirks, effectively erasing Quirks inside the body. All I need... is blood from Eri. So to get that, it's very simple...
~ Kai Chisaki to Izuku as he explained the process of making Quirk Bullets before torturing Eri in front of him.

Kai Chisaki, also known as Overhaul, is the posthumous overarching antagonist in the 2019 My Hero Academia Archive of our Own fanfiction, The Yakuza isn't That Bad. He is the leader of the Shie Hassaikai and Izuku's most hated enemy.

Like the original counterpart, this version of Chisaki still desires the eradication of all Quirks across the globe and tortures Eri in order to use her blood for the completion of the Quirk Erasing Bullets.

However, he dies too early when an enraged Izuku kills him by piercing a knife into his neck while covered in Eri's blood, dying a powerless, quirkless man who'll never hurt Eri ever again. Despite his death, his actions are what got Izuku to indirectly become the new leader of the Shie Hassaikai and continue his legacy the right way, further kickstarting the events.

Biography[]

There's not much on Chisaki's background, however, it is assumed that he plotted his way into eradicating Quirks across the entire world, and to do that, he likely tortured and abused Eri for her blood and used it to create the Quirk Erasing Bullets. While doing so, he plotted on sending the bullets to various organizations, such as the Flags being a known example, to use against the Pro Heroes as part of his plan, even offering a supply to the League of Villains to establish a connection with them. It's presumed he's put Eri in such a state where he unconditionally took care of her in an environment where she lived in fear and was traumatized by his abuse of her, that all changed when Izuku took an interest in his work.

It's presumed that he uploaded a video on the dark web where he used one of the bullets to revert a Lion Quirk user into becoming an ordinary human, which caught Izuku's attention and sent a message to the ones behind the video to have an audience with Chisaki. When one of the Eight Expendables reported him regarding Izuku's request, he accepted it and had that expendable send Izuku to the location where they'll discuss business, though he isn't afraid of killing him if he doesn't like him or has nothing interesting to offer.

When Izuku arrived at the compound where the Shie Hassaikai's headquarters were hidden, Chisaki appears before him, he doubted how hiring him would benefit his ambitions. Though upon inspecting his notebooks containing each quirk analysis he had written, he found a use for Izuku and questioned if his quirk involved analyzing one's abilities, to his surprise, Izuku confirmed himself as quirkless and it was exactly what Chisaku has been looking for. He then questioned Izuku's reasons for joining him, which Izuku could never be a hero due to having no Quirk and that his best friend, Bakugo, died at the hands of a villain which led to Izuku's view and beliefs on Quirks on how flawed the world became, giving Chisaki all the more reason to use him to his advantage compared to his pawns.

He and Izuku then enter the compound and head inside the meeting room where they had their discussion, he assigned Izuku to be given morning training by one of the Expendables, Kendo Rappa, to improve his physical status and carry on with his assigned duties of guarding duty at the laboratory room and being Eri's caregiver for two hours, even allowing the boy to have the options of staying overtime as a guard, continue his training, or head home as his choice. He tells him that he has to start from below to reach through the ranks and that he'll begin at five o'clock sharp before telling him that he would pull him off for any new Quirk analysis data as a bonus. He then gives Izuku instructions on his first day tomorrow before the boy left.

While he was nowhere seen during Izuku's first day, he was mentioned by Hekiji that he would "handle" Eri if she ever gave the boy trouble and was advised to tell him otherwise. For the next three months, it's likely that Chisaki continued abusing and torturing Eri behind Izuku's back, all the while the latter continued his duties and would report to Chisaki about a new Quirk he analyzed from a different Pro Hero, even paying him extra. Chisaki would then promote Izuku with his guard duties lessened, his Quirk research further, and taking care of Eri for another hour extended before allowing him to leave, thought to himself that he is one step close to his "dream's" developments.

He then sees through one of the security monitors that Izuku was bringing Eri into the kitchen, as much as Chisaki didn't like it one bit, he allowed it if it ensured Eri wouldn't find any way to escape or he'll threaten Izuku's life to keep the girl in line, which he wouldn't since his intelligence is needed to accomplish his primary objective of eradicating Quirks before going back to work.

As of the eighth month now, Chisaki called Izuku into his office and promotes him to a new position in his schedule where he'll have Izuku assist him in making Quirk Bullets in the next three days and teach him the ropes behind it, including making him a full-time Quirk Analyst before allowing him to leave with his other duties.

When the day arrived, he was waiting outside the lab where Izuku approached him, thinking that he might've disobeyed his orders before Izuku reiterated he was smarter than that and told the boy that he'd add repercussions on those who improved their Quirks thanks to him before entering the lab. However, Eri was seen strapped to an operating table, which Chisaki answered Izuku's question regarding her Quirk Rewind and how she accidentally vaporized her parents with it, as Izuku responds it might have been accidental, he ignores his statement as he continue to further explain how Eri's blood could reverse one's body to have no Quirk at that point and in doing so, he used his Quirk to get the blood from her.

As Chisaki tortured Eri in front of Izuku, he caused the latter to be provoked with hatred and rage towards him without even noticing and tried to fight back his anger, which he had a container filled with Eri's blood after the process of torturing her was done. Doing so without a hitch of remorse was enough to give Izuku a chance to kill him while he's at it, which he quietly used a knife and dipped it in Eri's blood as a tactical move of rendering Chisaki's Quirk.

Just before Chisaki could continue torturing her for her blood, Izuku hilt the coated knife deep into his neck and tried to obliterate Izuku with his Quirk permanently. However, due to the blood, Chisaki's Quirk had been erased and dies without realizing how he was outsmarted by someone he used to further his ambitions before they even began.

Despite this, Chisaki's abusive treatment of Eri has come to an end and she is now in the custody of Izuku as his adopted daughter, before this could happen, the Expendables discovered Chisaki's death and they made a decision as to whether or not the boy should become his successor or punished for Chisaki's death, as a result, Izuku became the new leader of the Shie Hassaikai due to a vote in favor. While Izuku continued Chisaki's plans of cultural genocide on all Quirk users, this time, the methods are more tamed and less - if not nowhere near - malicious compared to Chisaki himself.

Personality[]

Almost like the original counterpart, Chisaki is cold-hearted, charismatic, and cruel, though mostly suffers from mysophobia where he believed all Quirks are nothing but a blight to him and desires nothing more than to eradicate them through any means necessary of cleansing them to his own benefit. He's also intelligent as he manages to maintain authority over the Hassaikai's operations and inform his pawns of their tasked assignments, which what he had for Izuku was an example.

He's also quite abusive to Eri and saw nothing in her than a tool that could help him in the development of making the Quirk Bullets, even demonstrating that he had no qualms about hurting children like her, let alone destroying her apart and then restoring her back as if it was nothing to him, even despising her for reasons unknown. His cruel treatment and lack of empathy for the girl are exactly what caused his unexpected death at the hands of Izuku in the first place.

In spite of his sociopathic behavior, he's shown to be pragmatic in a way where he feigned affableness to Izuku in order to get him to maintain at his side and even allow him to continue spending time with Eri, which was solely to keep the girl from ever escaping his compound. Even if he shared the same exact views as Izuku related to their hatred for Quirks, it is mutual at best and different compared to how Izuku wished for their existence to cease due to his friend's death while Chisaki wanted to rid of the "blight" out of delusional ambitions, and even dismissed Izuku's concern of Eri's use of her Quirk being accidental. In the end, despite wanting him alive to further his plans' developments, he ends up trying to kill Izuku for stopping his abuse of Eri, showing he only let him live due to how useful he saw in him.

He makes it clear that he still viewed his minions as pawns at his disposable and was willing to make further "repercussions" with their Quirk improvements despite how much work Izuku has done for them, even outright stating how Izuku was more useful compared to everyone else, especially the Expendables if so.

Also, unlike the original Chisaki, this version lacks his sole redeeming quality where he cared for his adoptive father and boss of the Hassaikai, which serves as the main reason for his motivation to one day repaying him for all he's done for him even if he went through the wrong way despite his boss trying to raise him the honorable way. Here, this Chisaki's motivations relied on his delusional hatred for Quirks instead of his determination to repay his boss.

Overall, Chisaki is a lot different compared to the original counterpart, while the same, this one comes off as a realistic abuser who was willing to harm a child to complete his ambitions of evading the world of Quirks out of his mysophobia.

Trivia[]

  • This is the only version of Kai Chisaki to lack redeeming qualities as the ones in the original, especially when it had been completely omitted in this fanfic.
  • It was thought that according to what Chronostasis stated about Chisaki's hatred for Eri, while the reasons remained unknown since then, it is theorized that it had something to do with the original Boss of the Hassaikai (who was omitted from the fanfic). Given Chisaki explaining Eri's accidental use of Rewind that vaporized her parents, judging from Chisaki ignoring Izuku's statement of it, it's assumed Eri accidentally vaporized the Boss at one point and it could serve as the main reason for Chisaki's hate for her. However, the narrative never brought up the boss at that point and nothing suggests that the Boss had anything to do with Chisaki's motives and actions within the fanfic.
  • Despite his small role and AFO being the Bigger Bad in-universe to the original series, Chisaki is considered to be the Greater-Scope Villain of this fanfic since it was his video demonstrating his bullets in the dark web that caused Izuku to take interest in eradicating Quirks in the first place and coincidentally numbered his days when his abuse of Eri revealed to the latter was his own downfall. This ultimately led to Izuku becoming the new leader and leading the Shie Hassaikai his way, while unintentional and Izuku did things better, the latter still carried on his intentions no matter how well-meant he was doing.
