Ken is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Bobby Bigfoot) of the 2023 fanfilm Toy Story: The Sunny Side.

He is one of RobbieBear's chief enforcers together with Bobby, serving as his lieutenant and personal assistant. He remains loyal out of fear to Robbie, up until the moment which Andy's toys arrive, and he falls in love with Barbie before redeeming himself.

History[]

Past[]

Ken was once a gentle man of honor whom lived in Sunnyside as a resident. However, when RobbieBear Rives and his two friends, Chuckles and Bobby Bigfoot arrived, Ken was forced by fear to obey Robbie and become one of his two chief enforcers.

Ken was known for torturing toys inside and outside of his torture chambers. He was tasked with both missions of leading the other goons in a patrol around Sunnyside, and managing the torture and prison camps which Robbie has supervised.

Toy Story: The Sunny Side[]

Ken is seen giving the toys a friendly gesture along with Robbie, and he was told by Robbie to show them around Sunnyside and give them a tour around the place. When Ken met Barbie, the two genuinely fell in love with one another, despite Ken's ruthlessness. After the tour, Ken showed Barbie where he lives. He eventually introduced them to The Caterpillar Room, telling them that they shall be staying there, but he took Barbie with him to his own dreamhouse, with good intentions towards her.

During the night, after Andy's toys were tortured inside the Caterpillar Room by the violent kids there, Buzz went to ask Robbie to move them to another room. He saw Ken inside a snack machine speaking to the other goons including Rocksteady, Mandroke and Stretch. They showed their evil side, despite Ken genuinely claiming that he deeply loves Barbie. Even when he was told by Rocksteady that there are a million like her, he denies this with his whole heart.

Buzz is spotted and Ken orders Mandroke to grab him and place him in his chamber. Ken almost gets to torture Buzz, claiming that he shall be his first space toy victim. However, Robbie intervenes and asks Ken and his enforcers not to harm Buzz. Buzz asks RobbieBear Rives to let him and Andy's toys move to a better room. Robbie at first pretends to agree, but changes his attitude quickly when Buzz says out loud that he shall call his friends. Robbie then shows his true colors, claiming that Buzz's friendliness is inappropriate, and he orders Ken and the other goons to reset Buzz, which causes him to yell out of massive pain. This resets Buzz into being what he was at first and Robbie lies that Andy's toys are allied with Zurg. Ken then helps Robbie and Buzz capture the toys and put them with Rocksteady's aid into prison cells. In that moment of truth, Barbie comes and sees how Ken places them inside the cages. She gets mad and immediately breaks up with him, while Ken feels sorry for his actions, developing some remorse.

Ken decides to tell Barbie later on about Buzz being reset, giving Andy's toys a chance to gain the upper hand and escape. Barbie asks him why he's helping her, and he explains that once the Sunnyside Daycare Center was peaceful and friendly until Robbie came and changed everything, turning it into his torture camp and keeping all toys in line by spreading fear onto everyone and forcing him and the others to obey his every command. He tells Barbie to run and help the others, hoping that Robbie didn't witness this moment on camera so he won't be destroyed for an act of treason. Robbie and Bigfoot then enter the scene. Bobby Bigfoot grabs him by the neck and lifts him up, ready to kill him on the spot. Robbie however told him to put Ken down, because the punishment was to see Andy's toys being brutally mutilated by the other goons.

When Robbie and his goons, lead by Bobby, surround Andy's toys and Mandroke prepares himself to push them into "the dumpster", Ken shouts and demands Robbie to spare them all, out of love towards Barbie and bravery to stand up to him, as he is now fully redeemed and serving the good side. Robbie throws him angrily to the other side of the dumpster. Ken then shouts out infront of the other goons that Sunnyside could be a cool and groovy place if it weren't for RobbieBear, who built a pyramid of command and put himself ontop of everyone else.

Robbie asked if anyone agrees with Ken, and the goons disagreed out of fear. However, before Robbie could walk out of the scene, Woody reminded everyone and especially Bobby about how Robbie was rejected by himself by Daisy, and he lied to Bobby since that day to feel satisfied and build his own reign of terror. Bobby starts raging because of this out of pure sadness and agony, as he realizes the truth. Robbie angrily points out that Daisy sold Bobby for drinking soda, and he stabbed Bobby with a fork, before angrily remarking that everyone must agree with him and that toys were meant to be thrown away.

Bobby then recovers and throws RobbieBear Rives into the dumpster, as Ken promises to reshape the place back to what it was before it became ruthless. Ken and Barbie stayed at Sunnyside and lead the other goons, making them redeem themselves.

Personality[]

Ken was at first ruthless and willing to commit crime and evil deeds. He did this for survival as he did claim that he does fear Robbie and obey him because he wants to survive. This was even pointed out when he told Barbie that he hopes Robbie did not see their moment of friendliness on the security cameras.

However, his love for Barbie and his desire to make things right made him redeem himself in the film's second half and redeem himself, when he tries to convince the other goons to reform.

Trivia[]

  • This version of Ken is more developed and remorseful than the original, stating that he only follows Robbie out of fear and need for survival, and even aiding Barbie before his full redemption.
  • According to Mattel Toy line History, Ken's full name is Kenneth Sean Carson.
  • Despite being good near the end and feeling remorse, he did start out as one of the most cunning and ruthless toys, attempting to torture dozens at least with RobbieBear's supervision and the other goons aiding him.
