Long ago, Planet Purplius and the Mushroom World existed close to each other in harmony. However, due to some disagreements, the Mushroom World declared a war on Planet Purplius. As the negotations became sucessful, the war ended peacefully and the two planets would be pushed off into deep space, far away from one another, with all of the knowledge of the other planet being gradually forgotten by each world's citizens. However, when Purplius VII returned to Planet Purplius, he found out that Queen Rodakino IV had tricked him as she replaced the Purplians' memories and the Mushroom World with the ones of a long era of the oppression by a tyrannical king and when they found out about the Singularity Core, they decided to start a rebellion and cast Purplius VII into exile.
After explaining the backstory, Purplius proceeds to attempt at killing both Toad and Cappy, only to be then attacked by Bowser who tells him that he's the only bad guy allowed on the planet. Angered by this, Purplius attacks Bowser with his aura, forcing Bowser to leave. With that out of the way, the battle between Purplius and the heroic duo ensues. After Purplius is defeated for the second time, Cappy tells him to stop the Singularity Core before it dooms the entire universe. However, Purplius declines and tells Cappy that he has come too far to stop now and that he'll never until he gets his revenge before being sucked away into the black hole, forcing Toad and Cappy to leave.

Cappy tells him that that's suicide before realizing that this is their only option to save the universe from being destroyed.
