Shadow King Zadul is the main antagonist of the fanmade anime series The Chosen One. He is the tyrannical ruler of The Shadow Kingdom and is the father of Prince Jinogo and Princess Nazira.
His ultimate goals are to conquer the universe and pledge it into darkness and shadows so he can rule it. He uses Nazira by exiling her until she truly locates Azurof / The Chosen One and kills him with no signs of mercy or remorse.
He is the overarching antagonist of the "Life and Death" arc and of the "Shadow Era" arc, in which he serves as the primary antagonist of the 4th episode of the series, and he eventually becomes the main antagonist of the "Reunion" arc which takes place during the series' last two episodes.
He also serves as the overarching antagonist of the 2020 live-action reboot Legend of The Chosen One, in which he is portrayed by Dev Patel.
History[]
He is the ruler of The Shadow Kingdom since the death of his grandfather Desterius and his father Dracus, who is about to bring the shadow era into the universe, which is when he pledges it into darkness and shadows, as he shall usurp the other kingdoms and make everyone vulnerable to him. In the past he was the prince of The Shadow Kingdom and he abudcted the water elemental Sandara from the kingdom of Aquatima, thus forcing her to marry him and live a life with him. However, he plotted to kill her although Dracus liked her, and she was eventually either killed or she perhaps escaped death by exile. Zadul once upon a time has sent his daughter and first in line Nazira to find and assassinate the chosen one for him, so she could in return regain her honor and become the queen one day and rule alongside Jinogo after he dies. Zadul is first seen welcoming Nazira back home, many years after her banishment. However, Maddanos intends to prove that the chosen one wasn't killed by Nazira, as he wanted to usurp Zadul's throne. Zadul called Maddanos in and warned him that if he shall continue ruining his plans of Nazira fulfilling her true destiny and becoming the next dark shadow queen, he shall personally kill him.
Later, Nazira returns home as the hero and idol of the kingdom. Nazira is then called in by Zadul for a strategic meeting where they discuss on how to conquer the universe. Zadul decides to send his spy Sangu and task him with stealing the technology from the kingdom of Ederal, the kingdom of fire.
He asks if anyone has questions, and he kills General Bonderion for questioning his plans and requesting a peace treaty, thus he asks if anyone else has questions. He tells his two children to go to sleep during the night as tomorrow he shall start conquering the universe with strategy.
As he prepares for a final battle against the chosen one and a chance to recreate the universe as he sees fit and reshape it from the apocalypse, Nazira finally betrays him and mocks him before she has a brief battle with him after he reveals to her that he had tortured her mother Sandara until she died. After their battle, a fully redeemed Nazira goes to join Azurof and his crew in order to defeat Zadul and his shadowy forces. Zadul then calls Jinogo in for a meeting. As he explains to Jinogo that he's changing their plans, Jinogo immediately gets frustrated as he starts realizing that Zadul mistreats him just like he abused Nazira all the time. Zadul however silenced Jinogo and he promised the chaotic prince the throne of The Shadow Kingdom. However, Jinogo still had doubts about Zadul's intentions, as he asked the ruthless king why he is giving up on his shadowy empire. Zadul revealed that he is going to conquer the universe and rebuild it from naught, so he would be called by everyone The Demon King. Zadul later spoke to his general Hukanger and asked him how the fleet is doing. Hukanger promised him that their massive fleet is going to succeed in destroying many cities and countries, as they have millions of troops and strong ships with advanced weapons of mass destruction. Zadul reminds him that if he is going to lose in the final battle, he is going to be tortured and killed. After Jinogo is defeated and arrested and Hukanger is killed on his blimp, Zadul starts fighting against Azurof. The battle was very intense, as they were both using their full powers to get rid of one another. However, Zadul almost managed to kill Azurof, and thereafter the chosen one went to hide and recover from his injuries until Zadul finds him. Before he finds and kills Azurof, Princess Aqua enters the scene and tries to defeat the tyrannical Demon King Zadul. Zadul however tortures her by sending a massive beam of dark lightning towards her, and she falls from the height, as she is now presumed to be dead. Out of full rage and anger, Azurof uses his ultimate powers to defeat Zadul, and he successfully makes Zadul fall from the height. Zadul tries to stand up and force himself to win the battle at all costs, but Azurof stands ontop of him and uses all the combined powers and elements as he steals Zadul's ability to use darkness or any other element of magic. Zadul tries to kill Azurof with his dark powers, but nothing happens. He was most likely arrested for his crimes after that.

King Zadul returns in The Chosen as he is going to become the main antagonist of the entire series as whole.
Personality[]
King Zadul is a ruthless, power hungry, tyrannical and monstrous dark lord and monarch, who will not hesitate to mistreat or even kill his own children if they do not accomplish his goals. He sees himself as the fit ruler of the universe, as in the meanwhile he lacks any morals and he is very unstable, mad and destructive. He is also very manipulative, as he uses his own children and enforcers as pawns so that he could conquer the world himself and not let anyone be stronger than he is.
