Lady Patchouli... I only care about you. I don't care about anyone else. Whatever happens to them, I can say from the bottom of my heart that I truly don't care. These people that I don't even like- all they ever do is take away my time. I've hated it my entire life.
~ Koakuma reveals her true motives to Patchouli in part 6 of the finale.

Koakuma is the minor antagonist of Koishi Komeiji's Heart-Throbbing Adventure. She is secretly collaborating with the Lunarians and uses her position as familiar to Patchouli Knowledge to manipulate things in order to further the Lunarians' plan.

Personality[]

Koakuma is extremely good at acting, able to put up the image of being a meek and kind demon servant while harboring darker desires in secret. Even when Satori, a mind reader, outright revealed that Koakuma had evil intentions in her mind, Patchouli refused to believe it and got angry at Satori for accusing her demon of being evil. Koakuma is extremely devoted to Patchouli and secretly holds lustful and perverted desires towards her, but while she deludes herself into thinking she's in love with Patchouli she only sees Patchouli as an object of lust and does not truly care about her wellbeing. Although she saves Patchouli from getting turned into a kaiju like most of Gensokyo's other residents, it's only so she can make Patchouli her helpless captive and freely force herself on her.

Biography[]

Backstory[]

Koakuma worked as Patchouli Knowledge's familiar while secretly harboring a lustful obsession towards her master. At some point, she was approached by the Lunarians and made a deal with them where, in exchange for Patchouli being spared so she could have her to herself, Koakuma would help them with the Moonlight Descent Ceremony by absorbing the souls of those in Gensokyo who perished so they couldn't reincarnate, granting Koakuma their powers in the process.

October 3th[]

Koakuma reports Sakuya that Meiling was injured and later brought Satori Komeiji, as part of a plan to frame Koishi as being responsible for the madness that would follow.

At the night, Koakuma took part in Watatsuki no Toyohime's experiments on the fairies of Misty Lake. She and Reisen II held Daiyousei closer to the Moon's rays to drive her mad, so Toyohime could test Eirin's antidote on her. After their experimentation, Toyohime order both Koakuma and Reisen II to dispose both Daiyousei and Cirno to hides their evident of their action.

October 4th[]

Koakuma approached a bedridden Flandre Scarlet and played on her insecurities to manipulate her into destroying the Great Hakurei Barrier. While Yukari Yakumo went to the Palace of Earth Spirits to kill Koishi, Reimu Hakurei arrived at the Scarlet Devil Mansion to confront Koakuma. However, Koakuma quickly received backup from Reisen II after she accomplished the task of killing Yukari. Although Reisen II was knocked out by Reisen Udongein Inaba, Koakuma was able to escape, having Patchouli kidnapped before the barrier was destroyed, they spent time together in Outside World, where she cut Patchouli's hair to be short and raped her inside of a Vijoka.

Power and Abilities[]

Watch your mouth, Miko. I'm gonna be the strongest demon in all of Gensokyo.

In Finale (6/9), it’s revealed that Koakuma possesses a power (referred to by her as a curse) that allows her to absorb the abilities of those who are deceased, preventing their souls from reincarnating. This was subtly foreshadowed back in Part 11, where she used Iku and Mystia’s spell cards during her battle against Reimu and Reisen.

The full extent of this ability is never clearly defined, but Finale (6/9) further demonstrates its scope when Koakuma manifests miniature clones of herself, the ability that associated with Suika Ibuki, who was killed by combat vijoka episode prior. This confirms that any ability possessed by the deceased can be added to her arsenal, making her exponentially more dangerous with every casualty.
