~ Kokoro to Sora in her last Free Time Event.

Kokoro Kurokawa, also known as Kokoro Mitsume, is a minor antagonist in the korean Danganronpa fangame Super Danganronpa Another 2.

During the Killing Game, despite acting as a participant, she was also one of the many people who worked for the Mastermind, being the one to provide them with information needed for it to work.

She is also the abusive mother of Mikako Kurokawa, raising her like a test subject who would be imprisoned and experimented on for a good portion of her life for the sake of researching human emotions.

Personality[]

Kokoro was a mostly neutral person who prefered to be alone most of the time and almost never wanted to bond with others. Even her husband and daughter were seen as just tools for her. Despite this, she frequently participated in discussions and investigations, as she was one of the most determined to escape with everyone. No matter how despairing the situation could be, Kokoro was calm most of the time.

As a researcher, Kokoro was intrigued by human emotions and always wanted to study them. This ended up being one of her most malicious traits, as she was not above using unethical methods and committing crimes to help her research. She was aware of how wrong her methods were and was neither proud nor tried to justify it, she simply saw them as efficient ways of doing her work.

Her most notable trait is her ability to “read people”. Just by looking at others, she was able to find out their emotions at the moment, what they were thinking, how they were feeling, etc. Even outside of reading minds, she was still intelligent enough to make the most logical decisions and understand what should or shouldn’t be done at the situation.

Biography[]

Background[]

Kokoro was born with alexitimia which is when a person is unable to understand emotions. Her teacher noticed she had symptoms of it and advised her parents to take her to a hospital. After going through a mental hospital, they found out Kokoro only had one emotion, which was curiosity. Kokoro’s curiosity became stronger than ever, as she would dedicate her life to researching basic human emotions so she can understand them better.

Thanks to her condition, she couldn’t naturally understand what emotions someone is, so she had to rely on data. By analyzing their physical changes and reactions to certain situations and collecting data on it, she started understanding the meaning of certain emotions and seeing what usually triggers them. While she couldn’t understand the emotions of others in a personal way, she could still understand the meaning of them.

At some point, she didn’t need to rely on data anymore, as she could just look at people and “read their minds”, seeing through their filled minds and analyzing what they are feeling and thinking at the moment. Thanks to her dedicated and professional research, she became a very famous psychologist at some point. Despite all of this, she still couldn't understand basic emotions perfectly, so she came up with a plan to lock a newborn baby somewhere they couldn’t have access to the outside world until adulthood, as that person’s emotions would be so basic and undeveloped that it would be perfect for Kokoro’s research.

At first she was planning to have an artificial insemination for it, but thanks to her mind reading abilities, she was able to find out that one of her co-workers had romantic feelings for her, so Kokoro decided to marry and have a child with him as that would be cheaper. After getting married, she changed her name to “Kokoro Kurokawa” as Kurokawa was her husband’s surname. She eventually became pregnant and told her husband about the plan, who at first seemed to agree with it.

When Mikako was born, Kokoro implanted a recording chip inside her to help with the research. Afterwards, Kokoro’s husband decided to take his daughter and run away with her, most likely due to Kokoro’s evil plans. While Mikako was saved, the chip still remained inside her and recorded her entire life until her death, while sending all data to Kokoro’s computer. Despite the failure that was her plan, Kokoro still continued her quest of researching human emotions.

Working with Mikado[]

at some point, she met a man named “Mikado Sannoji”. Both had a common goal which involved emotions so they decided to work together. Mikado was a man who was working really hard to resurrect Utsuro, his childhood savior. He funded Kokoro’s research by using hacked, laundered money, which bothered Kokoro a bit due to the possibility of them getting caught, but she still went with it.

Kokoro eventually found out about Mikako's recorded memories, which were stored in a folder in her computer. At first she thought of deleting them, but she and Mikado decided to use it for their research, seeing as Mikako's memories contained a lot of information about Utsuro and his Killing Game. Mikado and Kokoro worked together to create an Alter Ego, a virtual artificial intelligence that worked like the human brain. The Alter Ego was made to replicate Mikado’s thoughts and intelligence, as well as his goal of resurrecting Utsuro.

Despite sharing the same beliefs and goals, Alter Ego Mikado didn't like the real Mikado, seeing him as incompetent, so the Alter Ego used his digital skills to hire a professional criminal known as "Syobai Hashimoto" to murder the real Mikado. The murder plan was successful. Kokoro was surprised at Alter Ego Mikado's actions but didn't feel anger towards him. She was amazed by his abilities and free will, so she decided to allow him "to be free". After murdering his original counterpart, Mikado started planning for how to resurrect Utsuro. He decided to create a Killing Game, similar to the one experienced by Utsuro, and use a human vessel to experience it so he can revive Utsuro's personality into the vessel.

The plan would take place in the Neo World Program. Alter Ego Mikado hired four people to act as the culprits for the Killing Game (Hajime Makunouchi, Emma Magorobi, Nikei Yomiuri and Iroha Nijiue). He took advantage of the fact that they were also desperate to find Utsuro at any cost. Mikado then had Syobai kidnap several people to act as participants for the Killing Game, and also told Syobai to enter the virtual world as an associate. Kokoro also voluntarily agreed to participate in Mikado's Killing Game as an associate of Mikado.

However, in an act of betrayal, Mikado gave Kokoro the same treatment as all kidnapped participants: Their memories were manipulated to think they were still in their teenage years and had just joined Hope’s Peak and had their bodies modified to resemble their high school selves.

Prologue[]

Kokoro and all other participants woke up on Utsuroshima, an artificial island within the Neo World Program. Except for Mikado and the Voids, nobody had any memories of how they got here and weren’t even aware they were in a simulation. Upon exploring the island, Kokoro went to a store, found a tablet and tried to use it to understand the situation. She eventually meets with Yuki Maeda and Sora. While she was fine with Yuki’s presence, Kokoro was surprised after reading Sora’s mind, seeing that it was empty like a void, as if she never had any memories.

Later, she and all other students were told by a mysterious, broadcasted voice, to meet at the Utsuroshima park. There, a creature called Monocrow appeared, and announced to everyone that they will be living in the island forever, and that the only way to escape would be by committing murder. This left everyone angry and ready to attack, but Mikado yelled for them not to, claiming that it is dangerous and can execute them for breaking the rules. Mikado proclaimed himself as the “leader of the void” who will help everyone. Suddenly, a gunshot was heard.

The bullet hit Mikado's mask, tearing it in half perfectly and revealing his immovable expression. The bullet came from Rei Mekaru's gun. She and her friend Teruya Otori had managed to enter the Neo World Program to stop Mikado's plans. Rei revealed to everyone that they were being tricked and that Mikado is an unwanted criminal and the mastermind who created the Killing Game in the first place. However, before they could stop him, Mikado used his powers to burn Rei and disintegrate her into ashes, and later threw Teruya far away from the island.

Despite everyone finding out who the Mastermind of the Killing game is, Mikado announced that the Killing Game will still happen. As Kokoro had no memories of her adulthood, she was against Mikado just like most participants.

Chapter 1[]

Daily Life[]

After the confusion the other day, all students (except for Mikado and Syobai) gathered on the Monocruise’s dining hall to discuss and share things they investigated, in hopes of finding a clue to escape the Killing Game. Kokoro proposed the idea that they were most likely on an artificial island made by humans.

Later, Monocrow called everyone to meet at the park again. There, he explained about the rules of the Killing Game: Simply killing someone is not enough, the culprit also needs to get away with their murder in a class trial in order to escape from he island. In the class trial, everyone will discuss about the murder and try to figure out who did it. If they vote for the correct culprit, only they will be executed, but if the majority votes wrong, the culprit gets to escape and everybody else is executed. Mikado also showed up and explained that, while he’s indeed the Mastermind of the Killing Game, he’ll play like a normal participant, who can kill or be killed anytime.

Later, a fight broke out between Mikado and Syobai. After the fight was stopped by Monocrow, Kokoro told the remaining students that she found some machine parts in the mart, and that she plans to use them to create a SOS transmitter. The next day, during a meeting, she revealed that, although the invention was a success, it was unable to pick up any signal. This led to Hibiki falling into despair, as she thought they had no way of escaping. That’s when Yuki Kagarin told her to kill him, claiming that’s the only way to escape and he’s perfectly fine with being murdered as only as it benefits a woman.

Days later, after Setsuka realized how tense the situation was, she decided to throw a party so everyone has a chance to bond with each other and invited everyone, with the exception of Syobai and Mikado, though Monocrow later made them participate anyway. Kokoro didn’t wanna join in the party but had to anyways due to Monocrow making it mandatory to participate.

A day later, Yuri Kagarin was murdered by someone at the Uehara tower. Monocrow confirmed that the murder had been done by one of the participants, which left everyone shocked. Thanks to her mind reading abilities, Kokoro was able to find out Hajime was the culprit very easily, but chose to not say it yet. Instead, she investigated for the class trial along with everyone.

Class Trial[]

At the start of the class trial, Kokoro stated that she knew who the culprit was and that they should reveal themselves to save the trouble. Hajime did not reveal himself. Everyone asked who the culprit was, but Kokoro refused to say, claiming nobody would believe her anyways. Instead, she chose to keep the discussion going until they have enough evidence. During the class trial, a good portion of the students started accusing Yoruko of being the culprit, but Sora and Kokoro were able to use evidence to prove her innocence.

Kokoro slowly but surely contributed a lot to the class trial and was able to guide Sora into finding out Hajime is the culprit. Eventually, everyone was convinced and Monocrow started the voting so they can vote for who they think is the culprit. As expected, the majority voted for Hajime.

In the post-trial, Hajime refused to explain why he murdered Yuri and claimed he was ready to die as a murderer, but Kokoro intervened. With her mind reading abilities, Kokoro was able to tell that Hajime was hiding something and wasn’t actually expecting to be executed. Mikado confirmed this, revealing that he and Hajime were working together.

Mikado revealed that he had a group of people called Void” among the participants, all with a coordinated plan to commit a murder in a specific order. Kokoro already had an idea of which participants could be the rest of the Void group, but as always, she chose to keep that to herself. As she suspected, Hajime truly believed he wasn’t gonna be executed despite the rules of the class trial, as he was an associate of the Mastermind.

However, Mikado betrayed him and had Monocrow execute Hajime anyways, which shocked everyone, including the rest of the Voids. As the class trial was finally over, everyone went back to the cruise and went to sleep.

Chapter 2[]

The next night, Monocrow used his broadcast to tell everyone to meet at gather at the auditorium. There, Mikado announced there will be a new participant in the Killing Game, and introduced Teruya Otori to everyone. Hibiki suspected him of being a member of the Void, but Mikado claimed that he and Teruya are actually enemies. Monocrow also announced that the Monocruise will be sailing into a new island. Some people still suspected Teruya, but Kokoro confirmed that he’s not part of the Void.

On the next morning at the dining hall, Kokoro meet up with everyone only to reveal that she won’t partake in discussions regarding the identity of the Void members, as she wants to preserve her life and her talent would make her too much of a target, since she can easily identity who are the traitors working for Mikado. However, she’ll still help during the trials since, as Hajime stated, Voids don’t actually want to win the class trials.

Several days later, Setsuka invited everyone to watch a musical performance by Hibiki and Kanade. Kokoro didn’t want to see it but Emma made her go anyway. During the concert, Kokoro moved away from the concert but was followed by Emma, who decided to have the conversation with her. During the conversation, Kokoro asked Emma to stop faking nice, as she knew the latter was a member of Void. Kokoro tried to persuade her to quit Void but made the fatal mistake of mentioning Emma’s trauma, which caused the latter to have a breakdown and attack Kokoro, making her fall unconscious.

Emma then joined back into the concert and, once it ended, everyone started looking for Kokoro, with Emma pretending to help. They found her unconscious body and decided to take her to her room, since the infirmary was closed at night. Emma made sure she was the last to leave the room so she could steal Kokoro’s e-handbook. She later used it to secretly enter Kokoro’s room, cut off her finger and trap her inside the refrigerator, so she could be frozen to death.

Kokoro spent entire days inside the refrigerator as she was slowly dying, while Emma used a disguise to pretend to be Kokoro everytime the rest of the participants wanted to pay her a visit. Inside the refrigerator, Kokoro was unable to escape, so she used some of the icicles inside to create a dying message pointing to Emma as the killer. Kokoro eventually succumbed due to the freezing temperatures. Emma then picked up her corpse, cut off both hands and feet so no one realizes Emma cut off her finger to have the fingerprint access to the e-handbook, and put it on the bed.

During one of the visits, everyone found Kokoro’s dead body and another investigation for the class trial began. During the investigation, Kanade found Kokoro’s dying message and told Sora about it. That would later become crucial evidence that helped them deduce that Emma was the culprit during the class trial. Just like he did with Hajime, Mikado betrayed Emma and had her be executed by Monocrow.

Kokoro had several mentions in Chapter 6, where Mikado told everyone about her secret role in the Killing Game, as the one who created Alter Ego Mikado.

Villainous Actions[]

  • Planned to imprison her daughter, Mikako Kurokawa, and keep her locked until adulthood so she can do experiments and research the basic emotions about her, and only failed because Kokoro’s husband escaped with Mikako.
  • She was perfectly fine with using counterfeit money from Mikado as long as it benefits her research, only being worried about the consequences if they get caught.
  • Helped Mikado create an Alter Ego of himself, the “Alter Ego Mikado”. When the real Mikado was murdered by the Alter Ego through a hired assassin, Kokoro didn’t care and allowed it to live.
  • Voluntarily chose to participate in the Killing Game, most likely knowing what was going to happen.
