Lady Akuna... that treacherous snake... She is not to be trusted. She is perhaps one of the most dangerous people to live. She has enslaved and imprisoned my people for decades. Your friends need to get out of the Golden Fan... NOW.
~ Lord Tetsunoken explaining Akuna's true colors to Kara.

Takaonna Akuna, or known by her title, Lady Akuna, is a major antagonist in the fantasy series The Dream Zone. She serves as the eponymous main antagonist of Akuna and a major antagonist in Korthan and Wanakwe.

She is the tyrannical leader of the Golden Faction of Asorora, who is determined to make her faction triumph over the Iron Fist and Diamond Dragon through any means necessary, not limited to political assassinations, dissidence stifling, and keeping war prisoners. Over the course of her rule, she started numerous military conflicts and skirmishes, and including the brutal Asororan Civil War which killed hundreds of thousands.

She is the arch-enemy of Ken Takeo and Ariana Witherra.

Appearance[]

Akuna apparently measures 6"0 feet in measure. Her body, in structure, is pretty bulky. She has long black hair with peach-colored skin. In addition, she wears a long royal robe, similar to Edo-Period robes. On her head, she wears a fan made out of pure gold, which acts as a crown. While her age is unknown, it is implied that she has been the Golden Fan faction ruler for decades.

Biography[]

Rise to Power[]

Akuna killed her parents and 2 siblings in order to obtain the throne, and staged the murder to be an assassination. During her rule, she had planted spies and the Satsu-Kin to infiltrate and take down the leaders of the Iron Fist and Diamond Dragon. However, the leaders were replaced with haste, and Akuna spent several years trying to take them down from the inside. However, all attempts failed. In addition to the timespan of her rule, she had run a slave trafficking system beneath the palace, where they manufactured weapons for use in war, even though slaves had been illegalized centuries ago. Akuna had also kickstarted the Asororan Civil War, which left many areas destroyed and Drobus's economy to ruin. A fragile ceasefire treaty was ordered, and since then there has been a fragile peace between the factions.

The Dream Zone[]

Lady Akuna is seen in the Glenn's epilogue when her messengers tell her a Golden Fan city taken by Blake has been damaged, but it survived thanks to the protection of Blake troops. However, Akuna says that she will not surrender Golden Fan, instead she will wage war and take Ashbrook herself.

After fleeing Ashbrook and getting lost in Asorora, the Satsu-Kin and other faction troops capture the Witherras, Kara, and Goro. The Witherras are brought to Lady Akuna, the leader of the Golden Fan. At first, Akuna seems friendly and welcoming. However, one of her subjects, Ken Takeo, tells Ariana that Akuna is not what she seems, saying she suppresses opposition to her and uses the Satsu-Kin to assassinate the other faction leaders. Meanwhile, Charleston accidentally finds Akuna's secret slave factory. Charles almost escapes, but Akuna confronts him, showing her true colors and lifting her welcoming façade. Akuna then shows her ability to corrupt the chi of an individual so she can use them as a puppet to Charles, which she uses on. Ken and Ariana go to the palace to confront Akuna, and she has fully dropped her act, becoming a cold, heartless villainess. She sends Charleston to attack Ariana and Ken. Both are captured and imprisoned. Later in the story, Goro and Kara learn of Akuna's horrific actions that have been buried by the Sastu-Kin though Lord Tetsunoken and Lady Diyamondo. Kara and Goro go to Akuna's palace, but are confronted by the Satsu-Kin. After defeating them, they finally face off Akuna, who has Ariana and Ken tortured. She sends Charleston to kill them, but fail as Charles reverts back. Akuna fights them all, but is defeated. With the help of Ken, they escape Asorora to hide in the Border Forest.

Akuna appears at the end of the story once more, saying that she will kill the Witherras. She then tells her Satsu-Kin chief to let Korthan know that she will join him.

Lady Akuna appears as one of many major antagonists, such as Ulfric Silvermane and the posthumous Windsor. She leads her army into the final battle on the side of Korthan, with the intention that she will be able to take over Demor. Like Ulfric, she becomes a member of the Messengers of Death and is stationed in Carthus Canyon. She and Ariana Witherra battle each other for the final time, but it ends when Ariana wounds Akuna and spares her. In the aftermath of the battle, Akuna is taken by Lady Diyamondo to be detained for life in the Diamond Dragon prison.

It is later shown in Wanakwe's ending that Lady Akuna had been replaced, with a female with an unknown name is seen sitting at the throne, making amends for the actions of the Golden Fan.

Powers and Abilities[]

Chi Imbuement: This is a skill most citizens of the Golden Fan Faction of Asorora know. Chi is the internal energy an individual has inside. The people of Asorora (except the Diamond Dragon faction) have mastered the magic of Chi, and use it in their weapons or as energy fighting apparatuses. In the case of Lady Akuna, she wields two razor sharp golden fans that have Chi imbued in them. What she can do with them is varied, but most notably is her skill to create fans from pure Chi and use them as weapons.

Chi Corruption: This is a skill only Akuna knows. She can corrupt another's Chi and use them to do her bidding. As she corrupts another's energy, however, it takes from her own ability to imbue her weapons with magic, rendering her slightly weaker.

Tessenjutsu: She is incredibly skilled in this martial arts method, being extremely fast in her attacks and cutting the air itself. In the span of a second, she is able to preform 7-8 successive fan slashes and attacks. Combined with her powerful chi-imbuement, the fighting style is even deadlier.

Extra Limb Growth: Her special ability via becoming a member of the Messengers of Death. Her back can sprout 4 extra arms, each wielding a golden fan made from Akuna's flesh. These arms can be used in the same fashion as Tessenjutsu with the same speed and strength and makes Akuna twice as dangerous.

Trivia[]

  • Akuna's name comes from the Japanese word for evil, being Aku. Coincidentally, Aku's name from Samurai Jack also comes from the term.
  • Her name could also come from another Japanese yokai, Akuma, who brought misfortune to anyone who gazed into it's flaming eyes.
  • Her first name, Takeonna, also comes from a Japanese folktale featuring a yokai with the same name.
  • Her agency, Satsu-Kin, comes from the pronunciation of the Japanese word for secret police. Kin comes from the Japanese word for "gold'.
