Lakitu is the main antagonist of The Dark Reign Season 1 and 2, and overarching villain of the entire series. He is a crazed, genocidal lunatic who's only passion is to destroy the Mushroom Kingdom and Dream Land, and to be the last man standing at the top.
Appearance[]
Lakitu is a yellow anthropomorphic turtle with a green shell and black goggles. He rides a white cloud that has a smile on it, and is often seen holding a red spiny egg with white spikes.
Personality[]
In Season 1, Lakitu was a smart (albeit hot-headed) mastermind, who commanded the authority of the Pikmin, and was respected enough to be partners with Bowser himself. Lakitu's only desire seemed to be the completion of his goals, even if it means betraying his closest allies to do so. He doesn't view Lemmy and the heroes as real threats, but mere annoyances. He also remorselessly kills Meta Knight, seemingly without batting an eye.
In Season 2, Lakitu seems to be mostly unchanged. He is a bit more violent and cunning. He still views Lemmy and the others as annoyances, and isn't really interested in fighting them. When he collects 9 of the 10 pieces, things change. He seems more sadistic, and enjoys the thrill of fighting the heroes, even mocking and taunting Lemmy. He views himself as superior to the heroes, literally leaving when he sees that they aren't strong enough to beat him. He is more power-hungry and evil, Pretty much ditching all sense of a "plan" and just walking into battles head-first, as he knows he can win.
History[]
Pre-Season 1[]
Lakitu started off as a normal member of the Koopa Troop, but after failing Bowser one too many times, he is fired. Bowser tries to keep things as friendly as possible, but Lakitu storms off. Eventually, he discovers a glowing red object, which lures him closer. A disembodied voice tells him about the 10 Pieces, artifacts that when assembled, gives the user an ultimate power. Lakitu takes the red piece, and moves on to find the others. By some means, he recruits Blue Pikmin to his side, and sets up a base in the Mushroom Kingdom. Lakitu finds three more pieces, the blue, green and yellow ones. King Dedede, king of Dream Land, finds out about this and tries to stop it, but Lakitu turns him into an Amiibo using the yellow piece. Lakitu leaves the Amiibo there, not believing it to be useful, but soon realizes he might need to keep it in orderto keep his operation hidden. He sends Blue to go get it.
Season 1[]
Blue returns with the Amiibo, and Lakitu puts it into some sort of machine that lets him talk to Dedede (who is trapped inside the Amiibo.) Lakitu explains his plan. He plans to turn every person in the Kingdom into an Amiibo, and take the land for himself. However, this is only half of the truth. Taranza overhears Lakitu and Dedede's conversation, and heads off to warn some others. Eventually, Kirby, Meta Knight, Lemmy, and Taranza show up at Lakitu's base. Blue takes them all out, and throws them in a cell. However, Lakitu realizes Lemmy has escaped, and furiously sends Blue out to go find him.
Blue's search is fruitless, so Lakitu hires two new guards, Red and White. However, Lemmy returns with Mario and Luigi, who manage to defeat Lakitu and all three of his Pikmin guards. The heroes rescue their friends (except Dedede) and leave. Lakitu decides to go to the strongest man he knows in order to squash these problematic rebels. Bowser. Lakitu returns to Bowser's castle, and the Koopa king agrees to help them. Lakitu and Bowser form a partnership, turning a handful of other people into Amiibos, and developing a mind-control machine, that turns Dedede and Waddle Dee to their side.
After weakening the heroes, it seems Lakitu and Bowser have won, when Lemmy and his team recruits Marx, who supplies them with a legion of rag-tag rebels to fight. As Lemmy and Marx's legion approaches, Bowser and Lakitu form an army of their own, consisting of the Koopa Troop, the min controlled soldiers, and the Pikmin. The two armies meet in the middle and a large battle breaks out. Amidst the chaos, Bowser is knocked to the ground, and Lakitu stands over him. Lakitu tells Bowser that it was all a trick, and that he never intended on sharing the spoils with him in the first place. He tells Bowser to leave this land, or else Lakitu will kill him and all of his subjects. Bowser flees, and Meta Knight confronts Lakitu, calling him evil. Lakitu grabs Red pikmin and uses his stem to stab Meta Knight in the chest, killing him.
Soon, the battle dies down, and it's only Lemmy, Mario, Luigi, Kirby, and Taranza against Lakitu, and the mind-controlled Dedede and Waddle Dee. The final battle takes place, with Lemmy and co. managing to knock Dedede out of the control. Lakitu is eventually overpowered and defeated by the heroes. He, along with his Pikmin and Bowser were taken away to the Caldera Prison.
Pre-Season 2[]
Having lost all the pieces but the red one, Lakitu was defeated. He spent his days alone in Caldera Prison, amongst some of the greatest villains in the land. Eventually, Lakitu discovers that the Green piece had been used by Bruno to wreak havoc on the the land, killing Marx in the process. Lakitu plots his escape, and only mere hours later, he manages to break out of the prison. Lakitu beelines to the laboratory (where Marx and the Piece are), killing Doctor Plant, and taking them for himself. However, Officer Froggy shows up to stop him. Lakitu easily defeats Froggy, and calls him a fool. Lakitu then kills him, deciding that its best for his secret plan to gather all the Pieces to stay hidden.
Season 2[]
Lakitu revives Marx, and steals the Green piece from him. This process leaves Marx severely weakened, but not dead. However, Lakitu is confronted by Link and Waddle Dee, who had been spying on him at the lab and had heard his plan. They try to fight Lakitu, but Lakitu manages to overpower them and make them flee. He gives chase, but they get away while riding horses. However, Lakitu is soon confronted by his old nemesis. Lemmy, who is accompanied by Yoshi and Mario. Lemmy asks how he escaped, and Lakitu reveals it wasn't really that hard. Lakitu and Lemmy fight, but Lakitu manages to defeat Mario and Yoshi, and beat Lemmy to a standstill. The two are about to clash again, when two figures beam down from the sky. Bowser, and his new ally King Dedede. Bowser fights Mario, and Dedede beats up Lemmy and Yoshi. Lakitu watches it play out, when Bowser orders Dedede to capture Lakitu as well. Lakitu hears this and decides to fly away, narrowly avoiding Dedede's grasp.
Lakitu doesn't appear for a bit, but offscreen, he collects all of the other pieces. He becomes corrupted with the power, turning more evil and sadistic. Now with 8 of the 10, he heads to an ancient temple to find the 9th, the Cyan piece. He collects it, but Lemmy, Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Kirby, Marx, and Taranza all return to confront him there. Lakitu mocks them for being so blatantly predictable, and charges at them. He manages to defeat Mario, Luigi, Taranza, and Yoshi, before deciding Lemmy and his gang aren't ready to battle him yet. Lakitu begins to leave, but Marx tackles him, and the two wrestle. Lemmy shoots a fire beam, and Lakitu uses Marx as a human shield. Marx is knocked away. Lakitu begins to terrorize Lemmy, calling him a coward and belittling him. Suddenly, Link jumps in, narrowly missing Lakitu's face with his sword. Link and Waddle Dee take on Lakitu, and the fight is more even. Lakitu is cornered by them, but he uses a smoke bomb to escape.
Now with one piece left to collect, Lakitu's plan is almost complete. He pinpoints the location of the Purple piece. It's in the Fields of No Return. Lakitu makes it there in a few hours time, but right as he is about to collect it, Mario jumps in, punching him in the back. Lakitu turns around, unharmed, and knocks Mario back in a single punch. Luigi, Marx, Yoshi, and Taranza enter the fight, but Lakitu makes short work of them. Link, Waddle Dee, and Lemmy return, all trying to stop Lakitu before he reaches the piece. Lakitu manages to defeat all of them, and takes the final piece for himself. At first, nothing happens, but then Lakitu powers up, flying into the air and dropping massive Spiny bombs on all of the heroes. He reigns fire on them, knocking all of them around like ragdolls. Lakitu laughs like a psychopath, relishing the defeat of his rivals. Lemmy, among the chaos, powers up with mysterious red fire powers, and charges at Lakitu. Lakitu turns around just in time to see it, but can't block, and is hit by a devastating punch. Lakitu loses all of the pieces from the resounding force of the hit, flying back into the woods. He falls, knocking into several branches, before hitting the ground. Lakitu is motionless.
Post-Season 2[]
Lakitu doesn't physically appear in Season 3, only showing up in a brief flashback to his defeat in Season 2. Even after months, Lakitu hasn't returned, and King Dedede's forces can't seem to locate his body, possibly hinting that he survived, but nothing has been confirmed.
