Luigi is the main antagonist of the "I HATE YOU" Creepypasta and the Super Mario World ROM Hack of the same name.
He is a deceitful, treacherous former hero who grew weary of constantly living in Mario's shadow. Eventually joining himself with Bowser, Luigi endeavors to kill his own brother, Mario. However, his efforts prove futile as Mario ends up killing Luigi by knocking him into lava. In THE END screen, he is last seen as a charred, yet animated, corpse.
Biography[]
The Creepypasta[]
The game starts off with the player spawning in the Sunken Ghost Ship, taking control of Mario. As they enter the level, they notice a boo lurking in the corner of the screen near a pipe. The player picks up a key and continues their journey. Upon returning to the map, a whirlpool suddenly appears next to Bowser's head, causing his eyes to bleed. The text at the top reads "Oh god no." Mario, curious yet scared, approaches the whirlpool.
Next, the player enters a castle where a message pops up, declaring "You are invincible now!" They find themselves in a narrow hallway filled with boos. Suddenly, a giant bullet bill passes through Mario, revealing the chilling message "I HATE YOU" written in blood on the background. As Mario progresses through the level, he encounters giant boos and another text appears, this time reading "WHY WON'T YOU DIE?" It's getting creepier by the minute. After a while, the player reaches a water level and comes across a group of thwomps covered in blood, relentlessly hammering down at the ground. Moving forward, they enter a room with spikes on the top and bottom, where dead clones of Mario hang from the spikes. The Mario clones start floating towards the player, attempting to kill them. It was a horrifying sight.
Following this, the player encounters two things: a pipe and a Mushroom with a creepy face. If the player chooses to grab the creepy Mushroom, they get jumpscared and are sent back to their previous location.
Finally, the player goes down the pipe and enters a boss door, leading them to a bridge over lava. Suddenly, Luigi appears and reveals his true colors to Mario. He confesses that he was the one behind all the eerie messages. Luigi proceeds to relentlessly jump on Mario until he stops moving, striking a victory pose, confident in his triumph. However, in a desperate act, Mario gets up and kicks his brother off the bridge. Mario watches in horror as Luigi screams in terror, burning alive in the lava. Luigi's final words echo in the air, "OH GOD NO." Despite the betrayal, Mario sits down and cries over his brother's ironic, yet suitable fate.
Once the game comes to an end, the player is taken to the end screen. Here, they see a disappointed/sad Mario gazing at a burnt Luigi corpse, with a frightened Peach standing between them. The haunting melody of "River Twygz Bed" plays in the background. After a few moments, a sudden jumpscare startles the player before the game closes abruptly.
The ROM Hack[]
When the player gets the Creepy Mushroom, the player dies instead and gets a message with red blood text saying "YOUR NEXT", then the player gets sent to the world map, being all bloody and red.
Luigi appears in the video game variation of the Creepypasta story, once again taking the role of the main antagonist. This time, the player will have to fight Luigi in a boss battle, Luigi will be able to to jump on Mario and have fireballs rain from above. After his health meter has been drained, Mario achieves the cape ability and knocks Luigi off the bridge, breaking it and sending him into the lava.
In the end screen. The music plays the Hong Kong 97' theme but reversed and slowed.
Secrets[]
In the .exe version, if you don't go into the pipe and just continue swimming right, you can find the famous Weegee.
Personality[]
Because of his little screentime, Luigi's full personality is mostly unknown, but from what we've seen from him, he appears to be a sadistic, arrogant and manipulative traitor, as he's constantly been fooling and tricking Mario into believing he's on his side. In his final moments, he shows arrogance after proudly posing over Mario's body before being thrown into the lava and screaming his last, haunting words.
Appearance[]
Luigi is identical to his original counterpart featuring a green shirt and cap, blue overalls, white gloves, brown/green shoes, and apricot skin. In the end screen, his burned skin is a red-like color and his left eye is yellow, with some rips on his clothing.

Trivia[]
- Originally, the game had Luigi reenact the scene from the original story, but has been updated since then in order to create a boss battle.
- Despite a ROM hack based off the creepypasta being much more popular than the original story, I HATE YOU was originally a written creepypasta, not a ROM.
- The original creepypasta was written to make fun of other pastas by overusing tropes, but ended up being more high-quality and popular than the author expected.
- Luigi has appeared in several Friday Night Funkin' mods such as Mario's Madness, Mario's Monday Night Massacre, Vs. MX, among others.
- He has appeared as an undead opponent being exclusive in the mods since in the original creepypasta, he is simply dead and his corpse is there as decoration.
- The story Luigi originates from is actually a trollpasta made to mock video game creepypastas such as Sonic.exe.
- In the original story, Mario accidentally kills Luigi after throwing him into the lava and cries about it, while in the ROM hack, Mario intentionally kills Luigi and looks away without remorse, possibly out of anger.
- Additionally, the ROM hack instead features an actual boss battle against Luigi, revealing that he can also shoot fireballs.
