Dr. Otto Attinger, also known as Luminous, is a major antagonist of the YouTube series, Disaster Almighty, serving as one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Agent Rorick) of Season 2 and a supporting antagonist of Season 3.
He was a scientist who use to run a lab called Attinger Labs. Then he got light powers after getting blasted by a crystal that came from a meteor. He is the archenemy of Billy McBride and Dante Rodriguez.
Personality[]
Before Dr. Otto Attinger became Luminous, he seemed to be a affable, kind, compassionate and polite scientist who wanted to make the world a better place. But when he got rejected by people numerous times, including his own board members, he became obsessed with power and is willing to use people to get what he wants. When he saw Billy McBride protecting the people as a heroic monster fighter while getting all the attention, he was filled with jealousy and rage. When he found the meteor that was filled with sun crystals, he saw it as an opportunity to gain power.
Suddenly when he was experimenting on the sun crystals, they blasted him and gave him powers, he wanted to use his powers to take over his earth and get revenge on the board members of his lab and Billy. He is narcissistic, psychotic, sadistic, cruel, manipulative, petty and brutal. And he appears to have a god complex, viewing himself to be more superior than other powerful individuals and all he wants to be the god in his own delusion.
Biography[]
Luminous’ Origin[]
In Billy McBride’s earth, before Dr. Attinger became Luminous, he was a regular scientist who studied plants and minerals, then he got his own lab and laboratory and named it after him. He wanted to invent something that could revolutionize energy, but it didn’t go so well since they completely backfired and malfunctioned. The board members took him for granted no matter how hard he tried, they were planning on shutting down his company and repossessing his property, he tried to come up with something that wouldn’t fail. Then suddenly a meteor came from of a portal that was from the magical world Koragon, and landed. Dr. Attinger took the meteor with him and discovered it contained yellow crystals that have the power of light. He was so tired of being isolated and poor, so he wanted to use the meteor’s power to become a god, so he ordered Alejandro and Bria Rodriguez, Dante’s parents, to bring him materials and parts to build a machine to harness the crystal’s powers. He started experimenting on them, then during the fifth experiment, one of the crystals released a powerful blast and he got affected by it, his eyes turned glowing red and skin became a little yellow, and he got superpowers, the power to shoot light from his hands. He made his own costume and called himself Luminous.

He wanted to use his powers to conquer his world and get revenge on the board members. Alejandro and Bria started to become suspicious of Luminous’ true intentions, while Luminous was standing outside of their house watching them, so Luminous killed them to ensure that they won’t stand in his way by controlling the oven to start a fire, he also wanted to kill their two sons, Dante and Jose so that there won’t be any witnesses, but Dante was the only one who was able to escape. Dante lived in the orphanage with no friends, until Billy met him, took him in and made him a Monster Fighter, he even trained him. Luminous presented himself the audience at Attinger Labs and was about to kill them, until Billy showed up and tried to save everyone inside, but he couldn’t save the board members, since Luminous managed to kill all 12 of them. Luminous was defeated by Billy and Dante and he was taken to a prison in Koragon, until he eventually escaped and started terrorizing people.
One day Tyrone met Luminous and they formed an alliance, Tyrone made sure Luminous believed that he was using him, when in reality it was Tyrone who was using Luminous. When Tyrone sent a robot spy to befriend the heroes Conor, Eudora, Billy and Dante, the heroes went to the magical dimension called Koragon so that they could receive help from the warlock named Trogon and then the robot spy used Billy’s dimensional vortex to summon Tyrone’s forces. Luminous absorbed the energy from the defense systems that prevents demons like Tyrone from going to Koragon, and Tyrone was able to take control of the entire dimension, make it part of The Void, and also corrupt every creature who lived in that dimension. Eventually Tyrone succeeded in completing his empire, annihilating every single hero and bending all life to his will. Tyrone also succeeded in killing Conor/Star-Fox.
Luminous has been absorbing light energy in order to sustain himself, but apparently sun powers are only meant to be wielded by magical creatures, and since Luminous was a human, the power was so intense, it was starting to slowly kill him. Luminous wanted to kill Billy, Dante and Eudora and they began to fight. Billy tried to convince Luminous to let go of the power that was slowly destroying his body, but Luminous refused to let go and continued to believe that he is a god. Just when he was about to annihilate Billy, Eudora and Dante came to the rescue and blasted him away, Luminous recovered then Billy came up with a plan to take away his powers by tricking him into blowing a fuse and allowing Dante to use a ray gun that extracts superpowers.
Luminous’ yellow skin turned normal again and he was back to normal, Dante said to him that he and Billy had to trick him in order to take away his powers so that they could save him and hoped that he would turn over a new leaf. Then Luminous revealed that he was responsible for the deaths of Dante’s family, which made Dante incredibly shocked and enraged, Billy and Eudora stopped him before he could kill Luminous and told him to calm down while Luminous told him to give in to his anger. Dante was about to kill Luminous, but then slowly realizes that it’s too much, lowers his arm with the sword and kicks him in the groin.
Tyrone’s robots appear and they were about to destroy Billy, Dante and Eudora, so the hero trio used a teleporter to escape. Tyrone showed up and Luminous tries to convince him to give him another chance, but Tyrone doesn’t fall for it and reveals that he was only pretending to be his loyal ally. Luminous foolishly tried to trick his way out, saying that they are gods and they’re better than this, Tyrone replies that he is not a god and neither is Luminous, telekinetically lifts Luminous up, and then brainwashes him. Tyrone orders the brainwashed Luminous to step forward and then he eats him alive.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers (formerly):[]
- Light Manipulation: Luminous possesses the ability to generate bodily light energy which he can release or harness, after getting blasted by the sun crystals.
- Energy Blast/Projection: Luminous can channel all of his body’s light energy, and focus into any part to give immensely powerful energy projections.
- Levitation: Luminous is able to levitate and watch people from above.
- Flight: Luminous’ body was transmuted into pure light energy, rendering him virtually weightless and granting him the ability to fly.
- Light Absorption: Luminous can absorb external light power source to recharge his body’s energy reserve. Luminous can also absorb light energy that’s around him.
- Technology Manipulation: Luminous has the power to control technology, as shown when he controlled the oven at Dante’s house to kill the Rodriguez family, except for Dante the only member who survived.
Abilities:[]
- Manipulation: Despite not being as manipulative as Tyrone, Luminous has proven to be very cunning. He manipulated Dante into allowing Tyrone to corrupt him and made him believe Billy never really cared about him so that Billy could lose his closed friend. Before he became Luminous, Dr. Attinger manipulated Dante’s parents into giving him the materials to build a machine so he could harness the power of the sun crystal.
Weaknesses:[]
- Arrogance and Spite: Luminous is arrogant to a fault thinking he’s a God and that others like him should think the same way. This causes him to spitefully ruin Dante’s life, not caring of the consequences it might bring.
- Anger: Luminous has proven to be hot-tempered, as shown when he has proven to be extremely jealous of Billy. Billy managed to outsmart Luminous by making him extremely mad in order to take away his powers.
- Mortality: Luminous possesses a mortal body, even when he got his powers. The light energy was starting to slowly kill him, the side effects include red veins and coughing.
