MX is the main antagonist of the 2021 creepypasta platformer video game Mario '85.
He's an ancient demonic spirit who inhabited a copy of Super Mario Bros. and disguised himself as a monstrous eyeless version of Mario himself in order to lure unsuspecting players/victims into the game and torment for all eternity. He is Lucas' arch-nemesis, his first and only victim, of whom he killed and pulled his soul into his digital hellish dimension, forcing him into the body of Luigi.
He is voiced by Sunset.
Appearance[]
When disguised, MX looks exactly like Mario does in the original Super Mario Bros. game, with dark tan skin, a red hat and overalls, and a brown-green shirt with matching mustache and shoes. His color palate, however, is slightly darker than normal Mario's and he doesn't have buttons on his overalls, this being explained by his creators as him using the form so much that it is no longer as pristine as it once was.
In his default appearance, MX's skin is pale white, his mustache, shirt, hair, shoes and eyes are black, and his hat and overalls are a darker shade of red than the actual Mario's. He's also much bigger and broader, almost hulking, and all of his "clothes" are actually part of his body, which explains why they also change in appearance and size when he shapeshifts. His eyes are also obscured by his cap's brim to pronounce his murderous gaping grin.
Despite the fact that Mario is way shorter than Luigi, MX is quite taller than Mr. L, as stated below in the trivia section that he’s 12 feet tall, but can make himself as tall as he wants.
MX's true form is that of a black, flaming, eyeless spirit with several glowing white teeth.
Personality[]
MX is a particularly ruthless and demented entity who will go to any length to claim as many souls as possible in order to integrate them into the game and make them his playmates for all eternity. Having existed since the beginning of time, all of his pent-up murderous sadism has been waiting billions of years to be unleashed on unsuspecting humans for his own amusement. He appears to have no remorse for his actions, dismissing his child victims' innocence and claiming that it won't get them far, confirming that he doesn't care about their age as long as he gets to torture and murder them.
He is also extremely intelligent and manipulative, having duped Lucas into believing he was trustworthy in order to gain an advantage over the child and eventually lead to his death. He's also astute enough to ensure that his victims have no way of retaliating against him, as evidenced by his removal of all powerups from World 1-1 and possibly the rest of the game, which may indicate a paranoid side to him if he's willing to remove anything from the vanilla game that can be used against him.
Despite his wicked nature, MX's general demeanor is that of a relaxed, calm, and collected entity that can genuinely be polite to people when he wants to be and can strike up genuine friendships with people, particularly those who share common interests with him, such as Lord X, most likely due to inheriting some of Mario's personality traits, particularly his friendly nature.
Biography[]
MX's background is entirely unknown, but aside from being an ancient spirit, he is said to have existed since the beginning of time and was created alongside the universe.
In late-1985, MX possessed a copy of Super Mario Bros. that ended up in the possession of an eight-year-old boy named Lucas after being purchased by his uncle, Mark for his birthday. A week after beating the game, Lucas noticed that it had began acting strangely, and eventually made contact with MX, who encouraged Lucas to "go to sleep" and that "the lights wouldn't hurt". Soon after the two made contact, Lucas would be found dead of a seizure and MX claimed his soul, absorbing it into the game and placing it in the body of Luigi.
After capturing Lucas' soul, MX altered the game so that Lucas would have infinite lives, allowing him to hunt down the poor boy and kill him over and over again.

- Spirit Physiology: MX is an extremely powerful spirit, making him extraordinarily strong in terms of raw power and strength, allowing him to topple enemies and objects that stand in his path.
- Enhanced Jump: MX is shown to be able to leap at amazing heights, appearing capable of leaping from a seemingly bottomless pit back up to the surface.
- Immortality: MX has existed since the beginning of the universe over 13 billion years ago, and thus, is immortal and beyond the possibility of dying from old age, as well as presumably outside sources such as being killed and he got limitless durability with it.
- Shapeshifting: MX can shapeshift between various forms and chose to take the form of Mario to lure in victims, albeit, heavily corrupted, large and monstrous. Despite this, he can also take a much less frightening form that better resembles Mario.
- Mégethoskinesis: Excluding his shapeshifting from his faker to default forms, MX is able to change his size at will and is said to be able to grow to any size he wants and he is not only 12 feet.
- Soul Transferal: MX can capture the souls of his victims and implement them into the game itself. By taking their souls and placing them in the game, he can put them in the vessels of characters, such as he did with Lucas by placing his soul in the body of Luigi.
- Superhuman Strength: MX is an unstoppable Juggernaut and is capable of blasting his way through any and all forms of resistance, whether it be living or inanimate. He can effortlessly tear his way through tens of solid bricks without sustaining any wounds, as well as appearing seemingly unharmed after having jumped out of an apparent bottomless pit, but most likely he has limitless strength.
- Juggernaut Forces: MX can build up unstoppable kinetic force, allowing him to run through things like walls and pipes during the chase.
- Video Game Manipulation: MX appears to have complete control over the game he inhabits, with it being shown that he can change the reality of the game itself by altering the level design and bestowing immortality to Lucas by giving him infinite lives within the game.

MX has a cameo in the secret stage of Too Late.Exe, where he can be found hiding behind a tree. Interacting with him will have him say that he thinks he's in the wrong game.
Friday Night Funkin'[]

MX appears in many Friday Night Funkin' mods, one being mainly based around him (Vs. MX), and the other two being based around Mario-themed horror media, including him (Mario's Madness and Mario's Monday Night Massacre). FrazzDude also stated that the mod of Mario Madness is canon to the lore of Mario 85’. He's also featured in both the "Game Over" expansion for Super Mario Bros. Funk Mix DX and FireMarioFan's Mario Mix as the opponent of the Cycles remix-turned-original "Running". He also was in antiverse vs Mario in the song "1985".

Pillar Chase 2[]
MX appears in the roblox game Pillar Chase 2 as a playable monster. His appearance in the game was approved by RazzDazzleDoo.
MX is able to use 2 abilities, like any other killer in the game. His abilities are named "Charging Demise" and "POW Hop". Charging Demise forces him into a sprint, having a hitbox while he does so damaging players and dragging them alongside his charge. POW Hop makes him jump, and indicating players to "JUMP NOW" or else they will be stunned when he lands. If MX lands directly on a player, he will crush them and instakill. His M1 (left click on mouse) is a stomp that deals massive damage to players. If MX kills a player, he will instantly reduce all ability cooldowns to 0 and highlight all players, even if they are hiding.

Trivia[]
- MX used to be best friends with Lord X. However, FrazzDude has since disassociated the two, not wanting MX to be associated with exes anymore.
- That being said, he has other friends like Red Mist Squidward, Hypno, and the Sunky version of himself, Pablo. He also has a pet/mascot named Nekoamon.
- It was originally stated that MX was an entity composed of data, however, recent pieces of trivia have revealed that MX is an ancient entity as old as time itself and is a spirit, which may imply that either MX's origins have been retconned or that him being 'made of data' in reference to him becoming one with the game he inhabits.
- MX stands at 12 feet tall but can make himself as tall as he wants.
- MX is stated to be capable of using powerups, but they're pointless as his default abilities already grant him a lot of power.
- MX's hulking design was inspired by Kingpin from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
- Funnily enough, FrazzDude actually made a sketch of MX based off of the Kingpin running meme.
- MX doesn't wear gloves (possibly because he uses the look of Mario sprites and gives the illusion of not wearing gloves), but Frazzdude (formerly known as Mari0Bot) doesn't say anything about it because most fanart depicting MX with gloves "[look] cool anyway".
- McDonald's Sprite is one of MX's greatest weaknesses, however this has since been retconned.
- He can also be defeated by Lucas if he were to touch a Flag Pole or an Axe in castle levels, winning whatever level he was on.
- Despite popular belief, MX is not an EXE.
- FrazzDude once stated MX is bisexual. Though he later stated that it was a joke.
- Ownership of MX has been transferred between various people. Ultra_Inferno64, the creator of Mario's Monday Night Massacre and Mario.exe Reimagined, received ownership of the character following controversy regarding FrazzDude. However, Inferno would eventually relinquish ownership back to Frazz, not knowing what to do with the character and having grown exhausted of simply being known for solely MX content. As of January 2024, ownership was given to RazzDazzleDoo due to mental health issues Frazz had surrounding the character and Mario '85 as a whole.
- MX's clothes are flesh infused meaning they work similar to SCP-049’s clothes. As stated by RazzDazzleDoo: “You know how early 3D models with clothes are basically textures/colors ontop of the body? It's like that with his vessel.”
- If MX inhabited a game from the modern era of Mario, his true form would mostly remain the same but his false hero form would be different, such as having blue overalls.
- The reason why MX disguises himself as Mario is because he's aware of how he's beloved by millions. For this he sees him as the perfect character to distort to his liking.
- While his False Hero disguise isn't too convincing, MX is capable of playing the role of Mario quite well in terms of personality.
- His disguise used to look like an exact representation of Mario, but got worn down overtime the more he used it.
- If he and Mario were to ever meet, they would most likely fight.
- It’s also been stated that Mario would win the fight, however much of a challenge MX would be.
- MX's name is possibly the combination of the first letter of Mario's name, M, and the X of Lord X (on whom the character was based).
- The old D-Sides version of MX seems to affirm this, as that version is called LX after taking on the appearance of Luigi, L being the letter of Luigi's name.
- MX would take on the form of Princess Peach between her, Daisy and Rosalina if he had to choose because she is the most popular of the three.
- MX is food adverse, meaning he doesn't particularly care for food as everything tastes bland to him.
- In some community's it is joked that MX is fat, this is not the case.
- RazzDazzleDoo, the owner of MX is very fond of Powerforest (A ship between MX and Coronation Day Peach/The Forest King).
- MX's original creator, FrazzDude, stated MX has a sister, however this has not been since confirmed or denied after ownership of the character was transferred.
