Carlondo Benjamin Tenpenny, or known as Maltruant, is the secondary antagonist-turned-main deuteragonist in the anime adaptation of the Ben 10 franchise, Ben 10: Omega Generation. He appears as the unseen antagonist throughout Season 1-3, the overarching antagonist in the first half of Season 4 before turning into the main antagonist later in the 3-Part finale in Season 4, and lastly the secondary antagonist-turned-deuteragonist in Season 5-6 (season finale). He is the (former) right-hand of Vilgax and the admiral of his empire before he betrays him after finally realizing how much of an evil monster he was, he is also the biological father of Ben Tenpenny and the husband of Sandra Tenpenny. He was once an assistant of an bunch of cruel scientists that would later use him as a test subject with an experiment that involved fusing him with a captured Chronosapien, which resulted in his hybrid mutation, giving him chronokinetic abilities to stop and restart time.
But to compare both of his counterparts from the original franchise, Maltruant and Carl Tennyson. This version of Maltruant (minus Carl Tennyson who isn't a villain) is a less evil but tragic individual whom genuinely cares about his son and wife. Knowing that his own influence could result in Ben becoming him after Vilgax forces him to join him once more with an attempting threat towards his wife and son, he sends them away and requests Sandra to give up Ben for their own safety if Ben were to live a normal life with no danger coming his way. But it saddens him to the fact that Ben will grew up in a hard life without any parents to give love to him or when being tormented, that someone to help him will not be there, nor even spend time with and even teaching him many things in life. This event considers Maltruant to be one of the most (if possible the more) tragic Ben 10: Omega Generation villains.
Personality[]
Maltruant was described as a merciless, cold-hearted, and ruthless megalomaniac whom obeyed every order to serve Vilgax to accomplish his desires, willing to kill anyone on either during a battle or a war on a planet Vilgax succeeds to conquer or destroy, or to whomever Vilgax enslaves as prisoners if they dare to defy Vilgax as their leader.
But while being Vilgax's right-hand, he has standards, Maltruant shows disgust and concerns towards Vilgax willing to kill women, including children and infants, that includes abusing them. But in truth, despite Maltruant's ruthlessness, he's not cruel or evil as Vilgax but instead portrayed as an emotionless being who had no problems with what Vilgax does as long as it does not involve harming women and children, this proves Maltruant's genuine care for his son Ben and his wife Sandra.
The reason why Maltruant is loyal to Vilgax was that when he use to be a human before becoming a Chronosapien hybrid, he was once a peaceful man who had suffered being look down by his fellow scientists and was treated horribly, it got worse when the experiment was a success, believing that his allies used him as a experimental guinea pig, Maltruant, in a vengeance, murders his allies and destroys the entire laboratory, that was when Vilgax found out about Maltruant. Deep down, Maltruant knew Vilgax was using him because of his powers and potential, saw him as nothing more than a pawn, Maltruant still shows gratitude to Vilgax and acts loyal to him, thinking of Vilgax as his brother.
However, the final straw came when Vilgax ruthlessly tortures an innocent woman he imprisoned to death. With Maltruant's eyes open at last, he finally realizes how much of an evil monster Vilgax was then the latter would tried to reach out to Vilgax that his conquest for power and ruling must seize. But Vilgax refuses, leading to Maltruant having no choice but to betray and leave him, but the consequence would led to Maltruant himself becoming a fugitive.
After betraying Vilgax, Maltruant vowed to do something with his life besides running away from one of Vilgax's enforces. When he encountered a battle between the Plumbers and Alien Terrorists, he met Sandra for the first time, impressed with her skills during their fight. Later on as they spent time together, he would soon fall in love with Sandra as she feels the same too. After all the times they've spent together and got married, Maltruant never felt true happiness in his life, to be with the someone he grew to love and start a family with.
But in return when his family life got put in danger thanks to Vilgax and when he threaten to kill his wife and child, Maltruant begged and pleaded for mercy as he was forced to rejoin Vilgax's empire. With no other option and thinking his influence of being someone who murders under Vilgax's command would affect Ben and with Sandra feeling unhappy as she and her child are taken custody under Vilgax, Maltruant was left with no choice but to make the ultimate sacrifice for his family's happiness. After sending them away from Vilgax's empire to earth with a request to leave Ben to Sandra's brother's family, with deep sorrow and sadness, Maltruant became depressed to this day on but one day he'll vow to find his wife and son again, but needs to wait for the right time to betray Vilgax again, even if it kills him.
