Michael (The Joy of Creation)

Michael Schmidt is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Ignited Freddy) of The Joy of Creation: Story Mode.

He is a demonic doppelganger and the reason of why all the animatronics escaped into the real world. He plans to stay in the real world by taking over Scott's body.

Appearance[]

Michael's appearance is never clearly shown in the game, and his figure can barely be seen at the end of the game. He is described by Scott as "looking like he just crawled out of a bonfire", meaning that he was severely burnt, which is confirmed at the end of the game. He also has golden glowing eyes, but this is possibly because of his possession ability.

Michael's appearance is described by Nick to "not look like a dangerous person", but that's probably because he was really young when the incident happened.

Personality[]

Michael had an insecure but kind attitude with Scott's family, trying to help them to escape the animatronics. He had a playful tone when talking to Nick, the youngest and the baby of the family. This was only to hide his true nature, which is revealed when talking to Scott.

He tried to be nice with Scott in the Attic opening cutscene, trying to have a talk with him before they arrive, but in the final cutscene, he takes a much more sinister tone, before killing Scott and taking over his body.

Biography[]

Background[]

Michael, along with the Ignited and Fallen animatronics are demonic doppelgangers according to the developer, Nikson, possibly brought to the real world by the curse of the haunted forest mentioned in the newspaper during the ending cutscene of the basement. It is implied that Michael is a doppelganger of the game's Mike Schmidt.

He appears for the first time during the game's opening cutscene, entering Scott's house and being greeted by Scott, who points at him with his flashlight and demands to know who he was. Soon after, Val arrives, asking her husband what was going on. After a while staying silent, he finally speaks, yelling his name at Scott, then stating that he asked for his name earlier. Scott decides to let him stay due to his appearance, taking him to the guest room and letting him sleep there for the night. Nick mentions that Michael didn't look like a bad person, or dangerous.

Bedroom[]

Michael appears in the Bedroom level as the unseen deuteragonist. He helps Nick, the baby, to avoid the incoming animatronics. Nick stays silent as Michael speaks, and the latter appologizes because of this being too much information for just a baby to remember, but he encourages him to stay strong and survive the night.

Michael no longer appears during the Bedroom after the radio sequence.

Living Room[]

Michael reappears as the unseen deuteragonist, helping Val this time to avoid the animatronics. This time, the two have a conversation, in which Michael tells Val that she must stay out of the animatronics' sight, repeating the phrase "Don't let them see you" several times during the phone call. Val, visibly scared, asks him where to hide. Michael tells her that he doesn't know, and she just needs to hide somewhere around the room. Michael then says that she must take her kids out of the house immediately after the night ends, and that he will take out Scott by himself.

Val asks him how does he know Scott's name, as nobody mentioned his name to him. Michael stays silent and no further signal is given from him.

Basement[]

Michael is the main protagonist and playable character of the Basement.

During the opening cutscene, which is taken from Scott's perspective, Scott walks down the basement, investigating the claims of the note supposedly written by his children, which he finds in the Office. He calls out their names, but to no avail, as they have been already taken out of the house by Val. Suddenly, a noise resembling an animatronic's jumpscare sound startles him, as he turns around to see the source, which was a desktop computer.

Scott refers to the computer as the mastermind behind the whole incident, asking several questions before asking "What are you?", as suddenly Michael appears from behind and knocks him out after saying "Your creations". Michael is heard apologizing before Scott falls unconscious. After that, the gameplay finally begins.

Michael wakes up in the basement's bathroom, seeing the only door and entering the basement. An unknown messager begins talking to him through multiple monitors, word by word appearing in each monitor. They tell him to let them out, or else he will burn with the rest of them. Michael explores the area, and attempts to leave the basement through the door, which was opened at the moment. As Michael tries to leave, the door suddenly slams shut as Ignited Golden Freddy's giggle is heard. Michael walks down the basement again, and has a vivid hallucination that tells him not to come close. Then, Chica's Endoskeleton spawns in the middle of the room, currently being dormant. Michael sneaks past her and makes it safely to the bathroom. Upon coming out, the endoskeleton has disappeared.

The monitors continue leaving messages to Michael, which lead him to bring the items from each character: Freddy's hat, Bonnie's guitar, Chica's cupcake and Foxy's hook. Michael must retrieve the items while avoiding the endoskeletons.

Michael continues to make his adventure throughout the basement, finding more endoskeletons as the basement shapeshifts and changes by each phase. Most of the times, Michael has to enter the bathroom to complete the phases.

After all the tasks being completed, Michael returns to the basement which is now back to normal. The door is now open, allowing Michael to escape.

Attic[]

Michael appears in the Attic again, acting in the background while Creation, The Fallen and Golden Freddy chase down Scott.

He trapped Scott in the attic, being tied to a chair in front of a screen which shows Creation's face. He has a conversation with Scott in which the latter asks him why they are doing this to his family. Michael tells Scott that it's "how things have to go", apologizing multiple times. He reveals his intentions to Scott before Creation arrives, and Scott finally breaks free and throws the radio to the ground, starting the night.

He appears again during the ending cutscene of the Attic, in which he mentions that the night won't end after 6 AM, but after he is consumed by the fire. Scott begs Michael to not hurt his family, but he can hurt him if he wants. Michael grabs Scott, as his eyes begin to glow, and then takes over his body.

In the overall ending scene of the game, "Scott" comes out of the house, and greets his family. After a short conversation with his family, he repeats "You're safe now, it's all that matters" over and over again, as his voice begins to distort and glitch, worrying the family, and it's revealed that this is not Scott, but Michael.

Trivia[]

The fact that Michael took over Scott's body was revealed by Nikson in a post.
All of the animatronics in The Joy of Creation come from the first installment of Five Night's at Freddy's, and also uses the night guard from the first game.
He only appeared in the story mode, he does not appear in The Joy of Creation: Reborn or the original The Joy of Creation.
