~ Mike to the Delta Warriors before hosting a show with them.
It's time to make y'all a BIG SHOT!
~ Mike to the Delta Warriors before fighting them.

ATTENTION:

THIS ARTICLE IS SEVERELY OUTDATED AND HAS BECOME INACCURATE UPON THE RELEASE OF DELTARUNE CHAPTER 3.

Mike C. Rook, better known in the Dark World as The Host with the Most or The Rook, is the main antagonist of Deltarune Chapter 3.

A greedy and utterly egotistical and power hungry Darkner, Mike is the ruler of the third Dark World known as the Cable. In the Cable, Mike is a renowned TV host, known all throughout the Cable's biggest city, TeleVile. In TeleVile, Mike is well-known for his game and TV shows. However, behind his charming and showman persona, Mike is actually an egotistical and power hungry host who is willing to do whatever it takes to gain more fame, clout, and popularity, even going as far as deceiving other people into thinking they are gaining fame even though they are not and brainwashing his viewers. Mike is Spamton G. Spamton's former benefactor, the very mysterious caller that gained Spamton instant success in his business, but eventually left Spamton in order to gain Spamton's newfound success for himself.

However, it is eventually revealed that Mike was mistreated by and later abandoned by his parents and former owner. His true goal in life is to find a genuine loving and caring owner who will take care of him.

Personality[]

Mike is the embodiment of charisma laced with arrogance, a TV host who thrives on the spotlight and the adoration of his audience. Behind his dazzling smile and polished exterior lies a deeply self-centered individual, always scheming to elevate himself to greater fame and power. Mike's need for control and recognition drives him to manipulate others, often pushing ethical boundaries in his pursuit of success. He treats his colleagues as pawns and dismisses criticism with cutting remarks, convinced that he alone deserves to be the center of attention.

But beneath his villainous ambitions and arrogant facade is a broken being shaped by a tragic childhood. Abandoned by parents and owner who mistreated and later discarded him, Mike grew up believing he was unworthy of love. His hunger for power and adoration stems from a desperate attempt to fill the void left by their absence.

As his schemes escalate, it becomes clear that Mike's true goal is not power for its own sake - it is to find someone who will genuinely care for him. In his heart, he longs for a connection that goes beyond the superficial applause of an audience. His evil plans, ultimately, are the misguided actions of someone who believes that love can only be earned through dominance and control. The revelation of his vulnerability casts him in a tragic light, showing that even the most self-centered villain can be driven by the simplest, purest desire: to be loved for who they truly are.

Appearance[]

Mike appears as a robotic feline with light purple stripped fur, with the stripes being a darker shade of purple. His eyes and the insides of his ears are the same color as Spamton's glasses: pink and yellow. He has a wide, toothy grin plastered on his face at all times and wears a cape with a high collar and black trousers. He accessorizes a bell choker, like the ones seen on Maneki-neko figures.

Powers[]

  • Electrokinesis: Mike's signature power is generating electricity from his body and affecting any electronic in his vicinity, thus allowing him to control electricity to his desire. He is capable of projecting electronic blasts from his body, causing electronics to malfunction, drain electricity from its source to empower himself, and can send electronic shockwaves through his landings that capable of leveling entire buildings.
    • Force-field Generation: Mike can manifest a large, blue force-field of electricity around himself or others. These barriers are capable of effortlessly withstanding any attack.
    • Paralysis Inducement: Mike can use his electrokinesis to induce indefinite paralysis in others via a powerful electric shock.
  • 4th Wall Awareness: Mike is capable of breaking the fourth wall by occasionally addressing the audience and lamp-shading his current situation. He seems very much aware that he is within a video game, but is convinced that he is the main character.
  • Brainwashing: Mike is capable of brainwashing anyone he desires by using his TV screen.
    • Body Control: Because of his ability to brainwash people, Mike is thus able to control the bodies of whoever he desires by using green strings.
  • Technokinesis: Mike is capable of manipulating and controling any technology, be it his own TV head, a phone, robots, etc.
    • Television Manipulation: Mike is able to manipulate his TV head, as shown when he changed the color of his screen with a simple snap of a finger.
    • Robot Creation: Mike is able to create any robot he desires. However, he is only able to create small robots and not human-sized ones.
  • Madness Inducement: Mike can make anyone he desires fall into pure insanity and madness by using his TV head, though it is unknown how he does this.
  • Acoustokinesis: Mike can layer his voice with a TV sound effect and can play numerous sound effects from his speakers. He also has the capability to amplify and control the pitch of his voice to a deeper pitch to intimidate those around him, or to perfectly impersonate other entities. In addition, he can play any song of his choosing and project it through his speakers.
    • Voice Mimicry: Mike can manipulate the pitch of his voice to allow himself to perfectly imitate other people.
  • Telekinesis: At one point, Mike used telekinesis to manipulate multiple buckets, mops, and feather dusters in order to use them to clean the show stage before putting on a show, without having to physically do it himself.
  • Clothing Manipulation: Mike can use his magic to almost instantly change the outfits of those around him, as shown when he snapped his fingers and changed the outfits of the Delta Warriors in an instant.

Quotes[]

Now's your chance to be a BIG SHOT!
~ Mike's most famous quote.
'Cause viewers always LOVE a plot twist!
~ Another famous quote said by Mike.
Fame is fleeting, power is fragile, but love, meow? Love is the cruelest joke of all - it's the only thing I can't script or control.
~ Mike to Kris when encountering them.
You see, the world is my stage, and every soul I encounter is just another actor in my grand production, meow. But no matter how perfectly I direct, no matter how brightly the spotlight shines on me, there's always this... void in the audience. An empty seat I can't fill, a silence I can't drown in applause. Meow. Do you know what it's like to crave something so deeply, yet have no idea how to earn it? No. Of course you don't, meow.
~ Mike before physically assaulting one of his staff.
You think I care about you? No, I don't, meow. I literally wield no respect for you. You're nothing but a weak little creature of darkness. I'm the host here, not you. Now, let's host the GREATEST SHOW TeleVille has ever seen, meow!
~ Mike to Ralsei.
I spent so long building a kingdom of lights and cameras, convincing myself that the applause could drown out the loneliness. I thought if I was the brightest star, someone would finally stop and see me. But the truth is... I hid behind the glare because I was too scared to let anyone close. Now, at the end of it all, I finally understand - the real stage isn't out there. It's here, in the quiet moments, in the bonds we make. Maybe I'm too late to rewrite my story, but if I can leave one thing behind... let it be the hope that someone else can find what I never did.
~ Mike redeeming himself before turning to dust.
